Carlsen doesn’t come through as arrogant to me. He is entitled to some bragging, he’s undoubtedly the best, he knows it, everyone knows it. But his bragging is usually full of humor and self ironic. He is also the first to recognize brilliant playing from his opponents and praise them.

@Jonas-mk8yc
@Jonas-mk8yc 7 месяцев назад
@@visible2927Well, Carlsen is definitly the best player in the last 15 years. But i think others are not so far away as you say: 2018 Caruana was really close to Carlsen in classical chess, the world champion match was really close and also there elo was not so far away from each other. But Caruana was clearly worse in rapid, he improved till today, but his overall peak is over(I think). Ding had a streak of 100 games where he was unbeaten in 2017-2018. He was in general always a bit mysterious and i think without the other problems he has, he would have had the potential to get close to Magnus Carlsen.(But then Corona came and he was forced to disapear and now he disapeared again...) Ding ist a beast in classical chess aswell as in rapid/blitz games and i still think Carlsen is the better player, but i think Ding could have come really close to him, even though i think he will never reach his peak. And last: Nakamura. In blitz chess, he is as good as magnus carlsen, but for longer times, he is far away from Carlsen. But after Corona many people thought he is over his peak, but he played extremly good classical chess, so maybe we will see him as the winner of the candidates in the future. Very briefly i want to mention all the other young players, for example firouzja, who is already one of the best in the world. It is hard to see where their peak will be and i think it really depends on how much they want it. For example for firouzja, right now i dont see the passion for chess which one can see for example with abdusattorov. So for example Vincent Keymer maybe has a high potential, his opening prep is really bad compared to the others in his age(which he can train), because he went to school till one year ago, but his positional understanding of chess is outstanding. I want to say that these young generation could get nearly as good as him and its interesting to wait for the future for that. My conclusion is: Yes, Magnus Carlsen is the best player right know and probably of all time. His consistency is unique, he plays at his peak for over 10 years now(of course he had times was a bit better or worse, but all in all he is much more stable than other players). He has a better understanding of the game then anyone else and is the best in blitz, rapid and classical chess. But there are rivals who got close to his peak or could get maybe as good as him. Thanns for reading till the end, if someone managed to do so:)

@@soichirohonda267 Yeah, but that's the thing, different from games like Clash Royale, the ELO system in chess basically takes points from you and gives them to the other person, afaik. That means that the only way to increase the overall ELO total is by getting more players in, so we're basically having kind of an "ELO inflation" right now. Not to discredit the players, since that also means that it's now more likely for a player who can beat them to show up, but it's also true that like 99,999% of current players, and of players who will come to play in the future, would never have a chance of beating Magnus Carlsen whatsoever. So unless we get some new people on the highest levels of chess, if the top players' levels would stay the same, their ELOs would be expected to slightly increase over time. But it is also true that there are many Super GMs around, all of them with the same level of access to studying tools and methods to study every part of chess, even Magnus Carlsen himself, so I'd say it's indeed the era when they should have the best odds at catching up to him, yet they cannot, I just think that peak rating is more of a "Wow" status than an accurate representation of who was better, the most impressive thing to me is how far he's kept himself from the other Super GMs for so long.

Also he is not that arrogant, to not critizise himself for bad quality of his play, even when winning. This maybe one of his secrets, like Bobby Fisher, to try always achieve highest quality. A rivalry unmatched in the current Chess pairings. So whenever people say he's arrogant, I say yeah he is, but if you were in his place, wouldn't you be as well? :D This is going to sound weird but the fact alone that he rearranges the board after the game is over despite his victory or defeat in the game has earned my deep respect for him.

Kasparov is still sometimes placed above Carlsen in the various lists of greatest World champions in history because of his longevity at the top, but this seems to be a wrong view as with the Internet age, the amount and the level of players have drastically increased and no longer concentrates in Russia. Also, the density of games and tournaments played is tenfold what it was under the Kasparov-Karpov era. Finally, Carlsen brought so much more to the game than anybody else before him that he should be considered the GOAT.
@bipz9175
@bipz9175 4 месяца назад
you make strong points but i still think that overall, Kasparov is the greater player of all time with Carlsen in a very close second, this is for a lot of reasons but ill name a few. despite playing in an era without ai, much less density of tournaments, and less strong competition, Kasparov still managed to reach a peak rating of only 21 points behind Magnus's peak and stayed dominant for over 15 years. even now after almost 20 years of being mostly retired from competitive chess he is still capable of going toe to toe with some of the best players of the modern day. he also pulled off some crazy feats that brought a lot of publicity to chess even in a pre-internet era, such as his 1984 world championship match with Karpov, his game in 1999 against the entire world, and of course in his 1997 match against deep blue that is likely the most famous chess match in history. Carlsen is without a doubt the very close number 2 and given some more time could definitely earn the #1 spot but for now at least in my opinion there is only one chess GOAT, and his name is Garry Kasparov.

i think magnus already said in some interview or his stream that he still really loves playing chess. it is just the world championship format that he really disliked so much so he decided to not defend the title. he said that if the FIDE change the format to become shorter and have shorter time control, he will comeback to claim the title back

@Newsthink Find this more of facts put together. I found you thru your video about Silk Road (like many others have I imagine) You are a good storyteller. I know nothing about doing RU-vid as a career. But as a viewer I like the videos that maybe take longer to produce but are more focused and meaty. My favorite channel right now is Atrocity Guide. They make maybe 3 vids a year. But I understand it is hard to find the right story. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IZ2YEESTQUI.html

I don't think Magnus is arrogant in the least. When he says things like "you want to go to an endgame with the greatest endgame player in history?" he gets this wry little grin that suggests that he thinks all the accolades are a bit silly. A very humble man IMO, with a marvelous sense of humor.

Carlsen is the GOAT. Kasparov barely won against Karpov, had a decade of no big challenge and when finally in the 90s worthy newcomers like Anand, Kramnik, Grischuk, Shirov and many others he simply retired. Magnus is the King of chess.

Kasparov retired as the best player in the world. And also Karpov was one of the best players in history. Magnus when faced strong opposition like Caruana also struggled. Personally I think both of them are the best players ever, roughly on the same level.

WC1 - Who'd Bobby Fischer consider the REAL world champion of 2019Nov - 2023Mar? -Wesley So, classical WFRCC - also Bobby's nephew via Lotis Key's older sibling -Hikaru, rapid WFRCC -Magnus, classical WCC --- Notes: 1 If Nepo had won the 2023 WCC, then I'm not sure who Bobby would pick between Nepo & Wesley So as real world champion for 2019Nov - 2023Dec. Also, I'm not sure Bobby would choose Nepo over Wesley So as the top player at the end of the 4 year period. I just know it's not Hikaru or Magnus. Lol.) 2 In 60min FRC games aka classical 9LX games Wesley So - played the most games (14) - drew the most (8) - won the most (6) - lost the fewest (0) and was the only player to never lose. Hikaru - never won Magnus - lost the most games (4) - lost 3x in a row LOL. - Magnus is on the receiving end of the 9LX version of bobby fischer's double 6-0-0 in the 1971 candidates -The last time someone lost 3x classical in a row in the finals of FIDE or PCA world championship was vishy anand vs alexei shirov 2 decades prior. 2 whole decades vishy's record stood until wesley so vs magnus. 3 Wesley So, Bobby Fischer & Hans Niemann have NEVER done ANY of the ff evil things in chess as adults. Magnus Carlsen, Garry Kasparov & Hikaru Nakamura HAVE done EACH of the ff evil things in chess as adults. Evil : -Cheating -Baseless accusations -Discrimination (eg by cheating or baselessly accusing people mainly of a certain ethnicity or citizenship) -Treason Re treason: - Magnus betrayed fellow Scandinavian-descent Hans by baselessly accusing Hans - Hikaru betrayed fellow American Hans by baselessly accusing Hans. - Garry betrayed 2 fellow Jews Judit Polgar & Alexei Shirov by cheating them. --- WC2 - Who'd Bobby Fischer consider the REAL top player of 2019Nov - 2024Jan? - Magnus, top classical chess player - Hikaru, the top rapid 9LX player ( who was ranked lower than Wesley So in the 2023 9LX ) - Wesley, the top classical 9LX player & again Bobby's nephew via Lotis - Nepo, who's top 2 in all those 3 categories (Nepo not Magnus is top 2 classical 9LX player in score) Fine. I'm not sure it's Wesley So as of 2023Dec, even though it was in 2019Dec. But I know it's not Magnus or Hikaru. Lol. But Nepo, Wesley, Bobby & Hans are good. Liren, Magnus, Garry & Hikaru are bad. --- P.S. Wesley So on Lex Fridman xcdhgq P.P.S. Interview while imprisoned p1w4Rr-1Uk Pablo Mercado: So what is your advice to the Filipino chess players? Uncle Bobby Fischer: My advice is to give up chess and take up Fischer Random. - 2004Oct11, 15 years before nephew Wesley So became the inaugural WFRCC in CLASSICAL time controls.

I have been a chess fan for life. The question is could you build a house, write a book, send rockets to the moon, build roads, produce Art, grow food , make beer or wine. Everyone needs to take a step back, gain some perspective and realize Chess is a GAME. Vast amounts of time by intelligent people have been spent playing a game, that doesn't make them anymore special than the engineer who helped develop a rocket engine or a farmer who produces food. In reality those other people I mention are FAR MORE valuable than a World reknown chess player. Magnus as a remarkable chess player doesn't make or produce anything but simply entertain like a Court Jester. Get a grip folks.

He's actually a very humble person and just likes to fuck around sometimes with his trashtalkings. Those who follow him, know that! Ofcourse he's a bit cocky regarding his game but I guess he owns it. One of the greatest of all time if not the greatest! He's a genius and in an interview he was asked about Bobby Fischer and what happened to him after his chess career, Magnus was kinda worried that this could happen to him as well so he decided to be a little arrogant, humourous and trashtalker.
