Fun fact: In 2009 Xavier Henry was actually committed to the University of Memphis along with Demarcus Cousins. John Wall was waiting on Tyreke Evans to leave and he was committing. Calipari left for Kentucky and took Walls and Cousins with him. Instead of following Cal to Kentucky, the school allowed Henry to de-commit and he chose to joined the University of Kansas.
My little brothers hooped with Xavier at Putnam with him. They still keep in touch with him, he was COLD af back then. most dont know but Unfortunetly he developed a "Skiing" habit in the league. That alone killed his work ethic.
I’m from Tulsa and used to go down to the City to play with him sometimes when he was in 8th grade and Freshman year. One of the best to ever come out of Oklahoma. Big and left handed. Him and Moose had Putnam beating everybody when he was a freshman.
He looked the part of an NBA wing but you could tell after the nonconference slate for Kansas that this dude wasn’t it…he disappeared too easily bc he couldn’t dribble all you had to do was cut off that left hand and guard him closely on the perimeter
Leaving after his freshman year was a bad idea. Had he stayed one more season, he would've gotten considerably more minutes on a team that was just as good -- if not better , than the previous year (the 2010-11 team had the Morris twins and Thomas Robinson, and made it to the Elite Eight in 2011). Looking at the 2011 draft, it's not that to see Henry going in the Top 10, and possibly to a team that would've been willing to give him more time to heal and develop. He got drafted by the Grizzlies who, at that point, were a perennial playoff contender, and didn't really have a role for him, or the patience to develop him either.
so let's look at it from his perspective. lets say he stayed in college. his injuries started his rookie year which mean it would have been his sophomore year. The injuries continued well into his final year. So if he stayed in college when the injuries started there's a good to great chance he doesn't make it to the nba bc of this. So yes, he was stunted but he was allowed to achieve his dream.
I played in the same AAU program as Xavier. Good guy! Had an NBA body as a Freshman in high school. I agree he just wasn’t ready for the pros when he went and injuries. Salute to Xavier! Oklahoma legend!
When I tell you I literally just looked this man up, I did yo. Appreciate you being on time with this ep as I've always wondered where Xavier went. Keep em coming SG. Salute!
damn out the league @ 23!!! insane. he was a cool pickup for LA when he was there i thought! and for these reasons, xaivier henrys growth, was stunted! i love how u end videos like that...peace and much love bro!!!!
Most guys need 3 years to get ready for a decent NBA career. Unfortunately, today's ONE AND DONE climate forces guys out before they're even close to being ready.
I know you make BASKETBALL VIDEOS Think about making a video about the Band CROWN THE EMPIRE It could be the exact same format, except the video isn’t about a player, its about a Band that also had Stunted Growth
Maybe what John Wall said about Xavier Henry carried some weight. Guys who are inefficient chuckers in high school and college definitely don’t last long in the NBA. Another player Stunted Growth should do a video on is Archie Goodwin.
Bro I like your content been a sub for a couple years but I personally feel like your intros give out too much info . You basically told me eveything I needed to know no need to keep watching the rest of video
This is good one....I wonder if he had gone somewhere else, if he could've developed more of that Alpha Dog mentality...That KU team he joined was just so loaded, and he fit in perfectly there, but never really had to carry the load himself. He was just so talented and smooth...I am partial to lefties, and he really did have a pretty lefty stroke. Bummer he didn't make it in the league
I’m extremely familiar with this story. When you look back at most of his highlights, you’ll discover that his skills werent polished enough for the next level. You made good points about his mother and father (Carl and Barbara) both being great athletes, but you left out the part about his brother Carl Jr., who was arguably a better athlete than Xavier. Xavier was bigger and so much better than everyone else he competed against ih high school, that there was no barometer to measure against therefore he was not pushed to work harder and polish his skills in order to excel at the next levels. He ended up being just a slightly above average shooting guard with the injuries too much to overcome. He had all kinds of basketball people and spirits around him, but he did not possess the “dog mentality” to go along with it to excel at the NBA level.
Yes Sir. I was a member of the 6A State Championship team Northwest Classen Knights in 1982 so I'm getting old. I played in the Mid State Conference against Xavier's Dad Carl, who played for U.S. Grant. Putnam City, the school that Xavier played for was in our conference back then and I don't ever remember losing to them. @@RAZYRAZY1124
Not from Oklahoma but i graduated from MWC in 2008 ... Xavier Henry would have destroyed 6A beyond measure if he played today lmao ... They had no answer for Carl'sheon Young this year at the 6a level and Henry was leagues better at that same age
@@DerrickL23 na you got it backwards, MWC is 5A this year, they barely beat my BTW for 5A state this season. 6A was won by 5 star sophomore at Owasso who is actually nice.
He came out of college way too early. Should've stayed at least another year. Maybe he got some intel that if he left school early, he was going to be a lottery pick.
He is a classic case of being too good too early which made him not work as hard because it came easy. What the top high school kids don’t realize is from high school to the NBA for some of those kids is 2 years and their mentality stays on the high school level therefore lacking the preparation it takes to be successful in the league.
Add another one to the "way too damn good on 2K but kinda sorry in real life" pile. He was a mf problem on the game man. Like if you never watched the NBA and only played 2K you would think he was a top 5 SG in the NBA that's how good they had him.
That whole draft he was in was filled with players like that Didn't even hear of him in college But he went to the TWolves when they were career suicide so that was probably it
this is random, but is there a different person running the channel from a few years ago? The voice has changed completely since I last watched a video The content is still great btw
Do Patrick Christopher he is Josh Christophers oldest brother & went viral a couple years ago for looking like lebron while siiting in the stands at an nba hame
