After almost 2 years, the AWD S550 Mustang GT is on the road. The worlds first Coyote Powered, manual transmission AWD Mustang. Basically an American R32 GTr!!
In this episode covers the last remaining steps to get the car on the wheels including:
-Making Custom Welded CV axles
-Have a custom front driveshaft made and CNC machining an adapter to go to the transfer case.
-Relocating the front Sway Bar.
-Moving the Catalytic converter to clear the front Driveshaft.
Then it hits the road for testing and finally tuning the Syvecs AWD controller in the snow with some Awesome AWD Snow Burnouts:)

Just so you know even with traction control off the torque management system of the S550 doesn't give you full power that it could right out of the hole. Since you have more traction, you might want to look into having someone put a tune on it. So you have more power off the line to take advantage of your additional traction.
@Tylerlive300
@Tylerlive300 9 месяцев назад
I believe he just has traction control off. He needs to turn off advanced trac. Or unplug the jumper by the cold air intake.
@travisfabel8040
@travisfabel8040 9 месяцев назад
@@Tylerlive300 Just so you know, even with advanced trac off... And "all" traction control systems off, the Ford system still kicks in occasionally. This is actually one of the reasons why people will pull out from a cars and coffee with everything turned off. Not traction control off but advance track as well. That whole 15 seconds of holding the tracton control off switch on the s550. You pull out and it does nothing until the car gets sideways most the way around the corner. And then it decides to kick in. This was fixed somewhat with the s650 and it's drift mode but outside of that the issue still exists. The car will try to save itself. That said, I'm not even talking about those tables. I'm talking about the warranty maintaining torque limits built into the system. This is what keeps you from putting too much power through your transmission or rear end and breaking them. This is why modern cars can be so powerful but use transmissions that just barely meet those limits. When you put your foot on the throttle pedal, The car looks at it as a torque request. The car then looks at what gear it's in, what speed it's going, and a bunch of other things and then it might decide that even though you're asking for 100% of the available torque, it is only going to supply 80% or whatever based upon a lookup table that had a lower value. This doesn't let up if the wheels spin or anything, It's just the compensation to keep the car safe for warranty reasons. That's why irrelevant of the traction control system settings, this torque management system will restrict the power initially when he pulls away. With his new setup, the rear axle will actually see less stress and won't be an issue. Same with its driveshaft and u-joints. However, the transmission itself and possibly the clutch will probably be the weak point now.

@travisfabel8040
@travisfabel8040 9 месяцев назад
@@luisuribe5432 there are several problems with that. First of all, you're disabling ABS. That's not what we're trying to do as the end goal. But second and just as importantly, the ABS computer is what's sending the messages about the wheel speeds. It's literally required for what he's trying to do. That's why the solution of remapping the tables to do what you want instead of completely disabling critical car systems is needed.... Unless you want to do burnouts and that's it.

@@kylesonsalla7620 I currently daily a 2007 Mustang, with no traction control or antilock brakes, though the Michigan winters. Until this season (when I put one in myself), it didn't even have a limited slip differential, either. Despite all that, I made it through the winters, just fine! I'd get out there and play in the snowy parking lots, during the worst storms. The only times I have had issues, it was a lack of ground clearance. And the open differential, those two or three times I got stuck in a deep spot over the years. Though I never had to be towed out. And remember, the benefits of AWD traction apply only to acceleration. That's a pretty big caveat. Proper tires have no such caveat. Obviously, I couldn't quite compete with my friend's WRX, which also had snow tires, but the mustang is still pretty impressive in the snow, all things considered! The only time I spun out was once on slick ice, but that will get you pretty much no matter what setup you're running. Only studs can really save you, on ice, but they're illegal in Michigan, and I think Wisconsin too. It doesn't have to be an either/or proposition. Both is obviously better. But, if you're going to only choose one, you should almost always go with proper tires. Interestingly enough, I do also live on top of a pretty steep hill. Congrats! Hard work does pay off. One point of weight loss is to change the steel subframe pieces to either 4130 or Docol r8 tube (save 1/3 of the weight of the steel ones). Titanium exhaust is one, but expensive) That awd controller is nice unit. About boost, go with twin screw. Whipple or even Kenne Bell if budget stretch that far. You want that instant boost and power.

Roots type supercharger with a bypass valve to allow a turbo to take over. You must have immediate boost with AWD or its wasted!

For the engine mounts, if BMR follows the rest of the industry, those should be roughly 85a hardness polyurethane bushings. You should look into 70a polyurethane bushings for the mounts, instead. Then, if you have to, modify them so they aren't full puck coverage/attachment. Some aftermarket bushing/engine mount makers do this so that the vibrations don't transmit in one direction, while still having a stiff mount that resists flex in another direction when the motor torques up. Also, I love how despite having AWD it was still useless in the snow with those summer tires on. Winter tires are defo more important than AWD. Another thing: that weight is unfortunate, but a power adder would definitely offset it (and it's STILL lighter than ANY mopar!). The only thing after that that could really make this build truly perfect is if it had a rear transaxle instead of a transmission. If you did that and perhaps a battery relocation, I'd like to think you could offset about 4% of the weight back to the rear. So it'd be 52/48 instead of 56/44. At that point, it's even better than an ACTUAL GTR (R35)!

This car with just RWD and snow tires already drives very very good in the snow, as goodm as AWD with all seasons. I hope you eventually try snow tires on all four corners and see how it is in the snow.

I've worked for Ford Motor Company for 33yrs at ATNPC in the warranty dept. I have had the privilege of working with some very talented engineers and technicians. I just clicked on to your video and I am "BLOWN AWAY" at your skills and talents as an engineer, tech, machinist, etc, etc... This being my first video I have a question? Are you using an MT-82 or Tremec? Thanks for the quality content, you have a new subscriber. Merry Christmas, Perry

@npvg

No, when I say American R32, I am referring to layout of the drivetrain. Basically a longitudinal front engine with a variable torque split transfer case. To the best of my knowledge, the R32 GTr was the first to do that.

For power adder check into the new whipple 3.0 or even a version of Magnuson 2650 thats on the gt500. They come with MASSIVE cooling bricks and ability to run an interchiller off the factory a/c so virtually No heatsoak with iat's below ambient. Saw that the new Whipple 3.0 for coyote based made 1100whp and over 950tq on a f150

I watched this and I'm completely floored!!! - incredible incredible work - this truly is a next level build/car project and love how you show what can be done with a little ingenuity. Hoping we can catch up at a garage tour sometime soon and looking forward to seeing this beast in person. Great work man!
