Your videos have been a breath of fresh air for my fitness journey. You taught me not to be scared of food. I am about 5 months into my new lifestyle change weighing 220 pounds at 6ft 1. I was going to the gym 5 days a week only eating 1300 to 1500 calories. HUGE MISTAKE. You taught me that sometimes when you eat more you progress faster and better. I'm eating close to 2000 calories a day and feel so much better!

Cardio is really helping me losing weight... because it was already something I had incorporated in my training before I started reducing my caloric intake. I burn a decent amount when I run, and I'm guessing I don't feel really hungry afterwards thanks to all the fasted cardio I did. To think I hated running my whole life but it's precisely what I enjoy doing the most these days.

"Too far from our natural way of being". Brilliant! I was fortunate enough to take some time away and was off the grid for a full week, no phone and spent everyday in the ocean and out in nature. It was such a grounding experience and I feel so rejuvenated. I ate whatever I wanted and gained some weight but when I came back and really looked in the mirror I was so much more full and my muscles were packed with glycogen. The workouts this week have been SO GOOD!

I can relate with the point about visual eater vs feeling eaters. My family has always been all about ‘not wasting food’ and we clean out dishes whenever we can we have dinner. But I’ve wanted to change that. I told my mother to start cooking less food so we don’t feel like we need to eat more, but she’s really adamant in her ways but that’s how they have been their whole life. It’s an atomic habit, but after watching your videos you’ve really inspired me to start incorporating better methods into improving not only my life but my family’s as well! ❤

And that pasta thing is SO true! If I screw up my caloric deficit, which unfortunately doesn't happen that often, it's mostly when eating pasta because I just tend to eat too much of it then. And 14:35 is also incredibly true. When fasting, I'm often not that hungry until the very first meal of the day, which activates everything. Didn't really know why until now. I must say, you say incredibly clever things and sound pretty wise. I enjoyed this video a lot!

Those are some excellent points on cardio. One more thing I'd add is that effort that cardio demands can make people who are trying to lose weight simply quit. Whenever I see a fat person struggling to run I want to tell them to simply walk. Walking is such an enjoyable and effective tool for weight loss. Can easily create a 300 kcal deficit daily without any extra hunger. I now progressed to incline walking and it's the best.

You should talk about overcoming feelings of lethargy. There are times where I don’t feel like working out or moving my body even though I’ve eaten properly and taken care of myself. Then if I skip a workout I have a hard time getting back on schedule.
@brindevie22
@brindevie22 Год назад
I dont know if you train at home or in the gym, but for me when i am feeling lethargic and if I force myself that day anyway, the simple fact of entering the gym, seeing the usual faces of the people i dont even talk to that are training hard is giving me energy! And even if i dont train as hard as the other day, i do train a little bit, and the sense of accomplishment is still there when i'm finished.. that helps me keeping up! I Hope you gain your energy back and continue your journey bro 💪 it happens, dont let yourself down!!
@Jesusdiscipledude
@Jesusdiscipledude Год назад
It’s a similar thing for me. I know my tendencies. If I feel like not training one day, and I choose not to, it can mess up the momentum I’ve built. It’s best to keep the same discipline everyday, or whatever your schedule is. Something else I’ve learned though. Even if you miss a day, or you eat a poor diet, or fall off the path, that’s fine! You just pick yourself up and go again the next day!
@glazeddonut9494
@glazeddonut9494 Год назад
For me that’s ultimately a mental battle. There are many days that I don’t feel like it but it’s those days that are the most important to exercise. You’ll create the habit of being able to push yourself even when you feel a bit lethargic. I also find within minutes of starting my workout the lethargy goes away and I feel good again

My cardio has been simple, 95 % of it consists of walking 10-13k steps every day of the week. I even jog for short periods during my walk whenever I feel like it. As a result of doing this cardio daily for the past 10 weeks, I can cardio rings around my co-workers at work, I feel pretty proud that, at the end of the day they are often exhaustedly walking to their vehicles and I still have enough energy to jog to my vehicle.

I do both cardio and weights because that is what makes me feel good. Most of my training consists of high intensity circuits with kettlebells. I make sure I do all the compound movements. Resistance, cardio & aerobic all rolled into one. Perfect for me and anyone who is time poor. 30 - 45 mins and you’re done. Allow an hour for warm up/cool down.
@victorianjeri1000
@victorianjeri1000 Год назад
How many times a week do you workout? Could you give an example?
@vinnynoxy
@vinnynoxy Год назад
@@victorianjeri1000 I try and workout as much as I can because I love it and it relieves stress. But with my busy schedule it makes it hard sometimes. This is the reason I got into kettlebells to save time & for the days I can’t make it to the gym I can at least do a quick high intensity session at home. Now I don’t even go to the gym anymore. Just kettlebells, calisthenics and I run also. So I normally train about 2 - 3 times a week plus I try and run at least once a week.
@vinnynoxy
@vinnynoxy Год назад
@@victorianjeri1000 my workouts usually consist of a circuit where I normally include a push, pull and leg exercise. Some days I’ll focus more on push/pull exercises, some days more legs, some days it’s a total body workout. Some days I run to the park to do pull ups, dips, rows, push ups etc then run home. I don’t really have a set program but I make sure I include all the main compound movements (push,pull, legs) For example a workout I like doing with my one adjustable kettlebell is; Deadlift Row Clean Racked squat Press Snatch 5 reps each exercise = 1 round, single kettlebell (as I only have 1 adjustable one) switch sides, for 10 rounds. So basically in this workout I would of done 300 reps in total, 150 reps each side. This workout would normally take me about 30 - 40 mins but I’m going non stop. Normally drenched in sweat by the end lol. Sometimes I’ll have chin/pull ups for my pull exercises or pushups/dips for my push exercises. Oh and don’t forget kettlebell swings also. I incorporate them in my workouts too. See for me training this way keeps it interesting for me. I mix it up and get creative all the time. But as I said, I make sure I do all the compound movements (press, push ups, dips, squats, deadlifts, rows, pull/chin ups) very important.

Hey Wanhee, I’m following your beginner plan and it’s been pretty fun! I just have two questions: 1. should I try to learn some exercises through machines first (ex: chest press for incline bench) to build some muscle so that I can target the right muscle and develop it enough (I have like no muscle) so that I can feel it being worked out when transitioning to a traditional workout or should I just start with traditional dumbbell and barbell workouts? 2. If it is very hard for me to drink protein shake during 6~8 hr non-fasting window (due to work), do I break fast just for the shake or not take it at all? Thank you!

The hunger pangs are something that hits me hard after working. I have put up with this feeling, and if I do, the pangs dissipate eventually, especially if you get into doing something active, like an active hobby, sports, a non-sitting activity. Adding an activity while hungry helps me get through it -- keeps you away from the food pantry too. I just have to learn to anticipate it more.

And that is because in the past I connected it with weight loss. So I felt like I had to suffer and beat myself to lose weight. I was miserable and never ended up doing it for long. Now I am doing body weight exercises,changing my eating habits to more healthy and sustainable ones and I'm going to include cycling,walking just for health and enjoyment. Point! I've had moments where I've felt very hungry and I'll say "I am starving." And while it's a figure of speech, I sometimes think to my self "am I really? Because there are people who barely have anything to eat for days." I believe food is important for us to sustain ourselves and be able to perform our everyday tasks but food has also become an emotional tool for many. Either it's being used to binge on and bury feelings, either it's being feared of and people develop anorexia...I have a couple of friends who have/still struggle with eating disorders and I see how it's all about what our relationship with food is. Most of us have access to all kinds and amounts of food today ( not including very poor or homeless people ) and it makes it much easier to consume it mindlessly.

It feels like there's a very evident long way to progress with the upper body, let it be working to a 1 arm pushups, handstand pushup, maybe a 1 arm pullup or some kind of asymmetric dip, but for the legs it's like okay maybe the pistol squat, but after that there isn't a long way to go, and let alone if I care about the glutes, it feels like there ain't no way if I don't intend to incorporate weights for the long run.

i like to eat some form of carbs because people say they give a lot of energy. so eating it as my first meal then going to the gym makes sense. whats a different preworkout meal i can have and any thoughts on this?

I didn't know that was an asian thing. The "finish your plate because the farmers worked hard for it" etc. I thought it was just a Filipino thing. I grew remembering and doing that. 😅

Walking won't help me chase down the guy who took my Mom's purse. If we really care about cardiovascular fitness we should be setting performance goals, monitoring and resting heart rate, maybe even getting a VO2 max test. Otherwise you're just spinning your wheels. If burning calories is the reason why you do an exercise, just save time eat a little bit less.

before this, it took me about 3 months to lose 10kg. Right now, 2kg for 3 days, which is good & scary at the same time.
