the WORST decision Canon ever made (discontinued EF-M mount)

In 2023 Canon made the decision to discontinue the EOS-M lineup of cameras, leaving myself and many others disappointed at the decision. Perhaps the most annoying thing is that they have yet to replace them with anything anywhere near the size and power that thy had, the new lens mount is significantly bigger and bulkier and they're taking a completely different direction that many people hoped for.
Still, if you're looking for a great camera, the Canon EOS M6 II still manages to hold its own. With a dead lens mount it's pretty hard to recommend to anyone, but in this video I demonstrate that it can still take some killer photos.
If you enjoyed this video and made it this far, make sure to subscribe to my RU-vid channel, I upload weekly videos on a Sunday at 5pm!

Even though I never owned one, I always liked the EF-M series cameras from Canon as a concept and everyone who I've ever met who shoots with one seems to really like it. In the end I went with Sony, and the availability of lenses and the longevity of the mount played a huge part in that decision.

almost bought this lens last year, but then i realize no one make EOS M lens. The reason is simpel, body + kit cheaper than BO A6400, so A6400 it is.

Love this camera. I have two of them. I still keep them and I still take photos with them. I love them. Too bad Canon is not keeping them alive and also I was expecting an RF version of it.

@@gabrielbailey802 The Canon R8 when paired with the RF 28mm gives me a bit of the vibe. The video quality is of course in a different universe from the M6 Mark II. Thats why I'm still hoping Canon will bring a similar range finder style camera to the market using the RF mount even if it's bigger mount and maybe cropped sensor. If its anything like the R7 is going to be a beast. I will still hold on to my M6 Mark II and the entire bag of lenses I have for them. Just as an emotional token of how much fun I had with these cameras in the past.

I don't see why one can't just continue to use the cameras that they currently own if it still works. There's always going to be something shinier and better coming out on the horizon - that is the nature of technology and business. However, if what one owns serves their needs, then there's nothing wrong with using it until the day it breaks. As a fellow ef-m mount user, I'm going to keep using my M50ii & M200 until it stops working.

Also, M stands for “Mobility”, so it served a purpose. I truly hope they revive it someday for a rangefinder style camera, ideally full frame, in an M6 size.

@@ryanleethomasWikipedia says it stands for “mobility” but Canon themselves say it stands for “mirrorless”.

There was my first camera!, I loved it and always got complements on it, having the silver body with the matching silver evf. but something about it made me want more, so i ended up selling it for an A7c. I Miss that camera though! I don't think id buy one again, but how light it was, that 22mm lens being great in low light, it was a little beast!

Im currently on M10 and would like to upgrade to another m series (since i own the 32mm 1.4 & 22mm 2.0, love em). Mainly took photo Which one is better for me? M50 , M6, or the markii variants? Planning on buying used

In my opinion, M6 MK II is the best M series camera they ever made. But if a viewfinder is really important to you, then the M50 line is pretty good too!

I think getting rid of the EF-M mount in favor of the RF mount for aps-c mirrorless was the right choice. The new APS-C cameras are fantastic (I use the R7 daily alongside the R6 in my work) and having access to not only aps-c lenses, but also FF lenses is the best for the end consume since it increases the amount of options, and lowers the prices. I'm sure Canon will get around to making more compact cameras again using the RF mount. But for now, People can get anywhere from an R50 to an R7, and third party lenses (Tamron & Sigma) for them, with option for native full-frame lenses if they ever want to make the move up to a full-frame camera. It's better than it has ever been for canon shooters, new and old alike. We've got the most cameras to choose from, the most lenses to choose from (with adapting EF), and the most capabilities we've ever had from cameras, period.
@gabrielbailey802
@gabrielbailey802 3 месяца назад
ooof I see where you're coming from, but I don't see why they wouldn't keep the EF-M mount as well? even better would be an EF-M to RF adapter (don't know if that's even possible). I just think them xiting the market in super compact mirrorless offerings leaves a big old hole in their lineup which is disappointing. Nothing against the RFS cameras though, they do look awesome
@eanmillerphotos
@eanmillerphotos 3 месяца назад
@@gabrielbailey802 I don't necessarily think it leaves a hole. That hole has been filled by the r50 and r100 respectively, with the R10 also being quite small. And unfortunately, it's not possible to adapt EF-M to RF due to complications with adapting short flange distance lenses to short flange distance mounts. Besides, there's already great options for RF-S, and three third party lenses coming out for that amount that are considerably more practical and higher quality then what was offered on the EF-m mount. I'm sure we'll see those awesome Sigma primes come to RF - S here soon. EF-m cameras were already selling poorly at the dawn of the RF mount. Third party support for that mountain was also lackluster. With RF, it's a complete other way around. Further incentive to develop lenses for that mount, dozens of third-party options already available (if you include MF lenses), and more, brand new lenses coming.
