We have inherent evil and inherent good. Denial of our selfish destructive impulses and deciding if "sin" and "religion" wee eliminated, only pure rationality and kind behavior would be sufficient without "indoctrination in morality." That is pure fantasy, evidenced by the atheist cultural experiences of eastern Europe and China in the 20th century.

I've known this since my 15th year of life. I've been telling others what I know for 50 years. I have saved a few people from their dogmatic upbringing, but many many more have slipped away. The one constant in determining ones ability to escape is the ability to properly understand science. The one constant I have found in Christians who take their religion seriously is the absolute acceptance, even a reverence for ignorance. They take pride in denying scientific fact, even going as far as declaring that knowledge is the tool of Satan. I find them pathetically childish.

Nothing supernatural or metaphysical needed. To not feel empathy is a significant pathology-- a sociopath. The only problem I have with this video is that I disagree that religion isn't inherantly evil, and that dogmatism is the problem, when in reality religion IS by its very nature DOGMATIC and it is religion that breeds fanaticism and violence against non believers. It's time to stop crediting religion with good things like art, poetry, community, belief in an afterlife, belief in a god, and so on. When religion was never needed for any of these things to begin with. I also think it's time people who use religion as a crutch to be better people or help them cope with death get proper therapy and treatment to deal with these things without religion as well.

I recently read an article on primate behaviour - more specifically on the reconciliation and de-conflicting methods macaque monkeys use in their social groups. It suggests that natural selection favoured cooperation, altruism and obedience. There are two behavioural types - the tolerant and the despotic types. The tolerant types easily go with the flow at any cost whilst the despotic ones become leaders and set the standards. I can see this behaviour playing out in human society - eg, in Russia where obedience to a (despotic) leader is so hard wired - to avoid conflict (imprisonment). Religions provide a despotic figure and the tolerant types have to accept without question what is dictated in the holy book - or face eternal damnation. You need to study evolution, particularly the evolution of mankind from primates and realise that we have evolved intrinsic behaviours suitable for social societies and these have nothing to do with a creator. The creator appeared only recently (100,000 years ago?) in the imaginations of advanced societies all around the World.

While I agree with everything else, I can't help but point out the danger of seeing morality as being based around what is advantages for us as a species. People can and did for example argue for the murder of disabled people using this argument, bringing it ad absurdum, since acts like that are generally seen as evil. There is no clear way of attributing behaviours to evolutionary effects, since our brain is so niche and overdeveloped at this point, I'd wish you could have clarified more, that these theories of yours are just that.

@@thedarknessthatcomesbefore4279 You don't understand what "objective" means. It is the opposite of a private, subjective sensibility. "Objective" truths, facts, understandings are, by definition, social-- identified in community, not as an individual. Morality is always social as it is always in reference to other people. You are arguing for moral relativism. So, we can say that objectively, murder is wrong, so is stealing and lying. The example you gave of "killing" was in "self-defense"-- not "murder". Two different things. The morality isn't in the killing itself, but in the total social context of the action. Ironic he uses an analogy about two islands, one being an unbelieving cannibalistic island, and the other being a religious potentially cannibalistic Island. First off he forgot about the third island, the one where there is no God belief but no cannibalistic Tendencies either. I would rather choose that one if I had no other information, because at least I wouldn't have to worry about being subjugated by religious laws even if I was allowed to survive. He also forgot about the fourth island where it is religious but they would want to put me to death or mistreat me because I'm LGBT. Oh wait, I am living on an island with people that are like that, it's called the continent of North America where people like Andrew Tate live. Good thing morality has improved enough where I don't have to worry about people like Andrew Tate having their way with me. Also he claims Islam is an evil religion. I wonder why he comes to that conclusion, is it because of the actions that are informed by some of their religious beliefs? Does Andrew not realize that other people View his beliefs in the same way, especially people who have in fact been harmed because of those beliefs? Muslims get most of their morality from the same set of laws that Andrew quotes from when he condemns homosexuality. And Andrew condemns the pope for being more passive towards LGBT people, makes me wonder out of the over 600 laws that the Moses character was said to have given, I wonder if in Andrews day-to-day life since he has been christian, I wonder if he lives up to par with every last one of those over 600 laws. I'd be willing to bet the answer is no. But he's willing to point out the flaws and other Christians. The man with a beam in his eye who is criticizing another man because he sees a splinter in his.

There is a moral maxim "if you are aware of abuse and do nothing about it you are complicit with that abuse." I think most people of good will would agree with this. Don't you? In light of that moral maxim this god of Abraham-- worshiped by the Jews, Christians and Muslims-- is horrendously immoral. This god is said to be all-powerful, all-knowing, omnipresent. So, he literally watches children being abused and tortured-- even by his own priests, pastors, rabbis and imams-- and does absolutely nothing. In light of that why would one expect any better from those who worship such a god?

Unfortunately when so many young men feel isolated from their societies, and are being told the society is fine, they are the problem, people like Tate can throw them a message that resonates with them. Unfortunately because in the west we are no longer allowed nuance or discussion of uncomfortable issues, if a person does 99 good deeds but 1 bad deed we have to ignore or discredit the 99 good deeds. Some of what Tate says does provide a positive message for young men, the same as Jordan Peterson, unfortunately it's seems beyond many people to be able to distinguish between the things being said and the person saying them. An absurd example of this are autobahns/freeways inherently evil because they are a fascist invention? Of course not, they serve a function. Likewise, not everything a person says is good or bad.
@Dawnarow

That first clip of him in the first minute is him asserting that there is evil... but won't acknowledge that people perpetrated it and why they did... most of the acts of terror and hatred (evil) come from bigoted povs or anger because people couldn't get along. Whats the first reason they can't get along? 1- Assumptions of what the other person said rather than what they said 2- believing in erroneous ideas... such as doing a bad deed will get you something. Yes, it will bring you torment (forget those that can't grasp this.. that's a minority and they're Very much appealed by religious extremists... not secular extremism... that doesn't exist. Is there a good reason for lying for example? Yes. To defend Life itself. Is there a good reason for killing? Same answer. It's not terribly complicated and children can easily come to these conclusions if they're nurtured and cared for. This paradigm can only exist if there are no lies out of ignorance.. most children would choose to part ways with it if they're given the choice after several years. They can drag themselves out of the fear imparted by parents that tell them that hell awaits. The ONLY argument that is hard to dismiss from theology is "why be good if you don't get punishment" so they argue against morality... Secular people KNOW that being good to others makes you reliable, more pleasant, don't have this option of evil in your kit/wouldn't prioritize it unless you have done it over and over (force of habit). Doing something morally wrong like selling sex like this turd did (he's a sex trafficker, btw... one sin in Islam... he should be punished for it in this life as well as after, but hey that's a detail right?). Anyways... deflect, atk, ignorance, petulance.. terrifying combo.

Also, morality is very much relevant. The belief that morality is irrelevant is what ends up causing atrocities such as WW2. Moral nihilism at the first stage denies the value of human life and justifies murder, disregarding our inherent sense of guilt and pity. We have to figure out our morality. Morality has been the most important subject to be explored since the dawn of time, and since Nietzsche put into words how meaningless it is how we define morals and act accordingly to them.

@@SneakySteevy Again, your lack of any actual education on the topic is quite obvious as is your low level of moral development..
