The WORST Movies Of 2023 (Part II)

Jim Cummings, pooh's current voice actor, has actually said that he thinks winnie the pooh blood and honey is disgusting and that anyone who edits his voice into it is "going to be on big big trouble".

The Left Behind franchise is like the UK tabloids. You forget they exist until you accidently catch a glance out of the corner of your eye and loose all your faith in human decency.

The bizarre thing about this Left Behind film, is that there was a previous attempt back in 2014 in trying to do a mainstream film which tried to be a legitimate movie with real actors and all (which meant that the writers of both LB films toned down their writing so that it's more dogwhistles than blarehorns regarding their politics). They even hired Vic *goddamn* Armstrong, the prolific second unit director and stunt artist for so many blockbusters, to direct this and got Nicolas Cage (in his paycheck decade) as the lead actor. Turned out that audiences and critics, even the Christian audience that it was meant to attract, all vehemently rejected it. So of course, the producers/writers in all their infinite wisdom tried to get a sequel made through other means, even if it meant getting funding from Kevin Sorbo of all people. And so we have this, coming out nearly a decade later and the creators getting decidedly more conspiratorial in the process, thinking that they speak for all Christians with this one. Also, it's not a coincidence that Neal McDonough appeared in yet another faith-based film, this time for Sound of Freedom distributor, Angel Studios with The Shift, that also had the gall to waste Sean Astin as well.

I’ll say it. John Carpenter would have made The Devil Conspiracy work. I got pretty lucky with my watches last year but still did catch two bad movies in The Strays and All Fun And Games

I appreciate you mentioning some not well known movies in your list as most of the "worst" lists have been surprisingly consistent in the bad films of 2023. It can get kind of redundant when everyone lists the exact same movies.

I remember being fooled by a number of movie posters into thinking it was going to be a good movie and don't get me started on movie trailers.

A Winnie the Pooh slasher is just about the laziest edgelord idea you can come up with. Its bad precisely because its the first 'edgy' idea you would normally reject during a pitch meeting.

My worst film of this year would be Silent Night. It’s not offensive or badly made, but it’s depressing. Depressing to see John Woo make something so boring and devoid of his style just to appeal to the Dad Porn crowd who love to think they’d be able to solve all the world’s ills if they had a gun. Crap

I am pretty sure if you ever added a made up movie on these worst of lists I wouldn't bat an eye. There's really crazy stuff out there.

Ah, someone else who suffered the Children of the Corn movie this year. At so many points I was left begging Wimmer to bring out his Ultraviolet-levels of insanity because at least then the movie would've been interesting. And somehow it isn't even the worst Stephen King adaptation of 2023 -- that would be Pet Sematary: Bloodlines, one of the only films I've ever seen to actually make me feel sheer rage due to how much I love the original film adaptation.

I love your worst lists and just discovered them today. Still going through some of your older ones. I kind of love watching bad movies, so I have seen over half of these and you have some nice deeps cuts. In 2023, I think you could easily have a list of 30 - 40. Some other ones that I found excruciatingly bad but maybe too obvious for your list: The Marvels, The Exorcist: Believer, Hypnotic, The Last Voyage of the Demeter, Joy Ride, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny and The Haunted Mansion.

I was hearing your opening description of left behind and thinking "is this one of those Kevin sorbo pieces of" and then he appeared on screen as if to answer me personally.

Come on, the Devil Conspiracy was honestly, a pretty good apocalyptic horror flick. There are some pretty interesting ideas in there, such as the whole cloned baby actually being a prison created by God to trap Lucifer in, or the elaborate plan of the satanists that uses sorcery and science too. Also, wasn't that a 2022 movie?

Wonderful. But also painful. A very good friend worked on Children Of The Corn so I'll not mention this to them. I'll try and watch the others (through legal means, of course) except the no 1 which looks so appalling I don't think I'll find it funny. Thanks for watching so I never have to.

I gotta say, I've been following your vids for some time now and I'm kind of surprised that THE DEVIL CONSPIRACY made it into the bottom five. While we could debate the merits of what 'good' even means, for me it did something that mid-budget films like this haven't done since the VHS era: the film makers committed to a high-concept bit. TDC should be a bottom of the barrel Sharknado-esque 'now streaming on Tubi' kind of BS horror flick. But it moves above that with better than expected visual effects, a couple of actual jokes that land, a committed cast and even lore that makes sense within the context of the movie. Its kind of a gem in that it takes itself seriously enough to actually try and execute on someone's vision. That is remarkably rare, even within this list. The rest of the films on here are clearly just pumped out for tax purposes, for the algorithm or (in Sorbo's case) to turn Q-brained Christians upside down and take the money that falls out of their pockets. Everything today is so denuded of context, hell of even anything more than an idea It's 'content' in only the slimmest sense of the word. TDC isn't that. I'm not saying it succeeds but damn I'm glad to see someone out there actually trying. Admittedly that is a shockingly low bar to clear but it warmed this curmudgeon's heart.

Good choice for number 1. As an ironic connoisseur of Christian End Times movies this one tread into new shitty territory. The genre has gone from: multinational, new-world-order action-thriller (often incorporating disaster movie tropes) to: bitchy, sour-grapes, culture war, pearl-clutching. It's just a thinly veiled God's Not Dead sequel.

I don't go out of my way to watch bad movies so my nomination for this list probably isn't as bad as any that actually made the cut, but I would say that Foe (with Saiorse Ronan and Paul Mescal) was the worst movie I saw last year. I've never walked out of a cinema before, but I was very close to leaving that one more than once.

I love your lists, and the Best of episodes are a handy resource for the movies that I missed or didn't pay any mind too, but I think that including christian movies is rather pointless. I don't mind, but doesn't it go without saying that these movies will be utter shit? Has there ever been a conservative, evangelical, morbidly right-wing movie that hasn't been awful? It's a little like a christian calling the Exploited's 'Sex and Violence' "over the top"- of course it is. Other than that, great year-end review, no notes, I will watch every best-of, and vomit/burn every worst-of.

The idea of your pro life movie is to make a plot that would be easily fixed with an abortion? That movie looks amazing for all the wrong reasons

Guardians of The Galaxy 3 worst movie ever. Why lemme tell ya. I went in blind on purpose. I love those movies, amped for the soundtrack and the Adam Warlock story......yeahhh so it's a Rocket backstory movie...a backstory I gave zero fucks about. Adam is a OP Marvel character TOTALLY under utilized. The soundtrack was meh, I ate weed edibles didnt make it better. So yeah

Ugh. What a disgustingly dumb bunch of additions to slimy propaganda and cash grabs last year. Thankfully I steered clear of these as, well, common sense and a respect for filmmaking. Again, ugh.
