That was Pete the Pelican! He's the mascot of the Tampa Bay Rowdies soccer team. The Rays owner owns the Rowdies as well. They are also in 1st place. Adam should go check out one of their games.
Yea! That would be great! Adam, if you’re in the Seattle area, T-Mobile Park (formerly Safeco afield) is an amazing place to watch a game, and lots of great food options.
Adam....I know you've been told this before but I must repeat. Thank you for not playing music before, during, or at the end of your videos. The natural ambience is always the way. 🙏🏾
Yes someone take that dude out. Irritating for sure. He is SELF IMPORTANT obviously. You can see he not very popular by the look on people faces in the stands.
Adam, I just started casually watching your videos, and your channel has become one of my favorites. I love baseball, and enjoy your baseball videos, they are really good. I haven’t been to most of these stadiums, and the way you shoot everything from different locations in the park from different angles, really gives me a realistic perspective on what it’s like to be there. So many vloggers pump their videos full of music, sound effects, awful transitions, and focus on themselves more than the actual subject of the video. Your videos are relaxing, interesting, and entertaining to watch. Really good quality content my man, you seem like such a fun and cool guy. Anyway, keep up the great work. 👍👍
Here is a dirty little secret about the Rays and their stadium issues: The local government will never give the owner the money to build a palace unless he starts to spend some money on the team.
Adam is giving us the whole Florida experience and I love it.....even though I live in Florida 🤣🤣 Edit: I'm pretty sure you had more views than people that actually went to the game.
Great video. I love watching games at the Trop also. It’s a little different and antiquated but it’s nice watching baseball in the air conditioning during the brutal Florida summers.
Another cool baseball episode, even if I’m not a Rays fan I like their merchandise and uniforms. Not interested in buying a jersey Adam ? I think they are pretty nice.
3:14 My favorite… when suddenly they don’t allow something inside the ballpark after allowing you bring it in every time before. Maybe someday I’ll be told to take my wallet back to the car.
@@richardday9142 Nope. Attendance has never been good there as far as I know. Pay $14 and sit anywhere is a great deal. It’s like going to a minor league baseball game.
@@colleenschaeffer120 it’s not really. Even on the Tampa side of the bay, depending where in Hillsborough county you live, it’s at most an hour to get to the stadium it’s quite literally right off of I-275. Then there’s Manatee county which is at most a 45 minute drive. There’s 3 million people in the metro area, 1 million in Pinellas county alone. People will drive hours to see a concert, but can’t drive 45 minutes to an hour to see a 3 hour baseball game? I can’t explain why attendance is lousy, but for me it isn’t really location.
Hi Adam! Today’s way of life is such that I’ll watch and enjoy your vlogs all my life. You and I will likely never meet, yet more quality time shared by way of your wonderful vlogs than I care to spend with any personal friend. God bless you and your kin.
Really is unfortunate that Ray's games don't receive a higher attendance. They're a great team and I personally enjoy the stadium but would agree with a move elsewhere. I'm planning on going to the Rays and Red Sox games coming up!
Back in the 70s, at Dodger Stadium, you could rent a seat cushion for the game. In an early inning, an ump made a lousy call and fans started flinging their seat cushions onto the field. It was a wild scene. Took a several minutes to get them all cleaned up.
It’s a different experience watching a baseball game under a dome. In a good way. I’m starting to like the Rays. It’s too bad that more people don’t show up to cheer their team on. You’re becoming a hot dog expert. I love hot dogs too. I’m enjoying seeing you enjoy these baseball games. The ground crews work hard getting and keeping the field in great playing shape. Thank you for bringing us along with you to these games. God bless you
Tropicana Field and Oakland Coliseum usually have the lowest attendances every year. Which is funny, since both teams are always competitive despite the low budgets.
Sad, but fun fact: outside of the post season ( we went to an ALCS game in 2019 and it was sold out) the only time the Trop has very good attendance is when we are playing the Red Sox or the Yankees, when those fans ( and we have a lot of them here, folks who moved down here) come. The New York and Boston fans show up, our fans don't and complain....
Heck yeah! That thumbnail is epic - it looks like there is a philosophical telepathic conversation occurring. I actually enjoy the cheap seats with a good dog, extra large root beer, crackerjacks, and plastic cheese nachos. Loved this video! Love to all you Woovians.
Brett Philips is an awesome dude. He always looks like he's having a blast. Weird they don't have the souvenir cups anymore. They always did up until the last time I went there a few years ago. Also, every stadium has updated its bag policy since COVID so security doesnt have to probe inside of bags which clogs up the line. At T-mobile Park in Seattle you can only bring in Clear/see-through bags, my gf couldn't even bring in a purse that wasn't a clutch. They had similar rules in Houston this year too.
@@Coopdog-dp5eq It's far from the majority of the population and not convenient to get to. The cowbell has nothing to do with it. The Cowbell Kid can keep on doing this thing.
There is a multitude of reasons why attendance at the Trop is so dismal. It is NOT for lack of fans per se; the Rays have one of the highest TV ratings in baseball. I blame lack of attendance on several factors: 1) The competition for in-person entertainment in Florida is fierce. You have the beautiful gulf beaches, Busch Gardens, Disney World, Sea World, Kennedy Space Center, and dozens of other 'touristy' things available. Coupled with: 2) Florida is FULL of lower paying, tourist type jobs. Not to mention the high percentage of Retired Folks on fixed incomes. Families just don't have a lot of money to spend on in-person entertainment, and with all the options available, the entire family budget is NOT going to be spent watching baseball in-person. 3) The traffic in the Tampa Bay area (driving from Orlando or the Northern Tampa Suburbs) to GET there is horrible mid-week. I've travelled from the Orlando area (which does have LOTS of Rays Fans and a large population) to watch a game in person several times, and if it is M-F, I have to take a half-day off of work to even THINK about getting there in time for first pitch. It is just over 100 miles for me, but close to a 3 hour drive with the late afternoon traffic going through Tampa to get to St. Pete. Even the people who WORK in Tampa would be hard pressed to get there in time (time in traffic, parking, walking to their seats) if their job doesn't end until 5:00. So much easier to watch the games from home. And, it is no picnic leaving the parking lot and getting back out of town. It has taken me a good hour or more just to get out of the lot and onto the highway to head home. In contrast - a couple of summers ago, I took my son for a visit to NYC and the Rays were in town to play the Yankees. Stadium pretty full. After the game, we literally were able to walk to the Subway station, and we were on a train within 5 minutes headed back to Manhattan where our hotel was. Incredible efficiency when it comes to mass transit and being able to handle thousands of fans.
Okay. Love you Adam, but I think you are just trolling us all now, haha. “Let’s see how many baseball game / hot dog eating videos these people will actually watch.” 😂
The Trop is so difficult to get to that no one wants to go. It's too far away, and I4 and I275 are pure garbage to drive on with the inevitable Tampa Traffic.
The Lightning didn’t have any attendance issues when they played there in the early 90s. Granted, they didn’t play there long but I saw games at the “Thunderdome” that were standing room only. While I’d love to believe that moving the team to Tampa (which I’m 100% in support of) won’t fully resolve the Rays attendance woes. Many people in the area just don’t care about the team and a new stadium won’t change that.
I was there yesterday too and it was the second time I had been to a Rays game. It boggles my mind too how a team that has one of if not the best record in the league this season has such a low turn out. Both games I had went to had al9t of empty seats.
It reminds me of that old St. Louis Brown joke. A guy called the box office and asked, "When does the ballgame start?" The clerk answered, "What time can you get here?"
I can't compete with Adam, but here is a road trip I took recently to Comerica Park in Detroit. The second half of the video gives a pretty decent look at the home of the Tigers. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wVh9_ANFbRM.html
I live in the Tampa Bay Area and the reason I don't go to Ray's games is because there are multiple Minor League ball parks in the area and ticket prices and concession prices are much less. Clearwater Threshers used to have a "Feeding Frenzy" on Monday nights, it was $14 for a ticket that included admission and all you can eat hot dogs, hamburgers, Philly cheesesteaks, and snacks. Last time I went to a Ray's game over ten years ago the were selling a 12oz bottle of Bud Light for $12. I just go to minor league games from now on because they cost a lot less and can go to several minor league games for the same price it costs to go to a single Ray's game. Just my thoughts on the topic.
HEY ATW...IT SEEMED A LITTLE TONED DOWN, EVEN a little lackluster for a game with a first place team Involved. I know it was a day game, but what's up with that? DJ Kitty is a cool dude with his sweeping up!! With no bags allowed, that means I would have to go without my mother-in-law!! Man, you sure had to schlep it up to the rafters to your seat! Great Job today!
When you go to those "worst seats" you are required to use the Bob Euker chant: HE MISSED THE TAG!!! One of the (sadly discarded aspects of the Trop was up in the BEACH area (a great place to enjoy the game).....and it was a multi-person party hot tub!
I share the same frustrations about the Rays attendance figures that you do. Makes zero sense how a team can be this good and yet draw so little crowds
Because of the location of the stadium, it sucks to go there, st pete is just a bunch of old people but if they moved to tampa they would get lightning/buccaneers attendence rates
You should bring Papa Woo with you one day. All I could think of the other day when they had a baseball game at the Field of Dreams site was when you and Papa Woo were there earlier this year.
I just happened to go to the Rays game today against the CWS. I've been to about 20 MLB ball parks and the Trop by far is the worst stadium in the league. But you're right about Brett Phillips, I saw him interacting with the fans and he was as you described, cheerful attitude and enjoying his time signing autographs and talking with the fans.
The AL East is always incredibly strong. My Jays struggle to make the playoffs, even when they're having good seasons. I'd love to watch a game at Tropicana, at least once, just to check it out. I wind up having to travel (when it's allowed) to Minneapolis to see them play on the road (also a beautiful stadium).
Unlike Jordan the Lion and Carpetbagger who actually travel. I'm not quite sure why Adam is unwilling to leave Orlando area or when in CA, the LA area (well this past trip he did go to San Francisco). There is so much to see in FL and he won't do anything past Disney and Baseball and Hot Dogs (& I like Baseball to see minor league team near me and I'll eat a hot dog once in a while). I loved watching his Route 66 series. Heck, even The Ttackers leave Orlando lately.
We were at that game, it was a good time, the Rays are a fun team to watch, and the Trop is actually not that bad. It's always 72 degrees, it's never rained out, and the section we always get - 205 or 207- has padded seats and a great view just to the left of home plate for a reasonable price...
Walking up to the upper deck reminded me of my days as a kid at the old Busch stadium in St. Louis. We’d almost always have tickets in the upper deck. The sections in the Very upper deck (including the tarped over ones) reminded me of the old St. Louis arena and it’s upper circle seats. I often wondered how often they were actually used
Attendance is peanuts comoared to TV deals. The whole attendance thing is a red herring. Other teams have attendance almost as bad and have no problem keeping their team in town.
@@midnightrunner684 I'm sure "folks like you" don't understand why protests don't make you anti American 🙄 they highlight issues and bring attention to bring about change. Remember freedom of expression makes this county what it is otherwise you can live in a communist county
Every thought about going to the minor league stadium in Daytona? Really neat also where they filmed a league of their own. If you go on a wednesday its all you can eat $14 ticket included lol
I love minor and regional league games and stadiums! Not only are most of the players exceptional but the games, food and special deals make it a great event!
That's great to see a player signing autographs for kids. A lot of players will not do that nowadays. I live near Seattle. Our third baseman Kyle Seager has always been willing to sign every kids ball, cap or glove. That kind of thing goes a long way for me.
Its so sad to see it so empty! We love the rays we go see them a couple times a year. It just makes me wonder how long they can continue to operate and pay the team with such low ticket sales.
I've said if the Ray's played on Dale Mabry near Raymond James stadium they'd have a ton of attendance but the signed with the city of St Petersburg for 20 years
I'm not sure how much of a difference it would make. The stadium is not out in the boondocks. There is a lot of population around it. Its not like its 20 miles away from anything
Brett Phillips has become my favorite player too because of his attitude and his smile, he’s what you call a true role model not only for the kids but for the game of baseball
@@ArizonaHotSauce We have a population of more than 1/4 million here in St. Pete, and it's easily accessible from I-275. Day games during the week is the problem, no matter where you go.
@@ksamsel5809 1/4 is a lot, but not the majority. My comment is still valid. I-275 is easy, but not convenient. Tampa/ Hillsborough is far more centrally located.
@@ksamsel5809 Day games in Cleveland always outdraw the night games. They have day games in St. Pete because most of the population that lives there goes to bed at 8:30.
Lucky to live near DC and enjoy going to see my Braves vs the Nats at their stadium a few times a year; it's a nice field. Not trying to be overly negative, but Tropicana Field has a shopping mall feel to me- very odd atmosphere for a baseball game.
Pre game prep is called dragging the field. That piece of fence behind the ATV is the guy dragging the field. They drag it with push brooms during the game to touch it up. When you were hot in the upper deck the Rays were up. Did it cool down when the O's were up? It should have, that's by design. AC blows "in" when visitors are up. It blows "out" from behind the plate when the home team is up.
@@TheDailyWoo you should investigate at the next game. They did it in the Kingdome in Seattle all the time. We confirmed that when we were kids. I think either the Blue Jays or the Twins were first caught doing this in the 80s and somehow it's not cheating. But once we heard about it we tested the theory in the Kingdome and it was true. I'm just not sure if they still practice this.
Main reason Rays low fan attendance is because of where The Trop is. It is in BF Egypt. I’m a Rays fan live in Orlando, but haven’t been to a game in a while because long drive 1:45 min no traffic. If u hit traffic forget about it. Even Tampa area residents hate the traffic going there; also the transient population of Florida doesn’t help, too many transplants who refuse to support the local teams.
I feel like you’ve seen the Orioles really stink it quite a bit lately. Just know we’re a lot better than what you’re seeing, but we’re in the middle of a rebuild. If you haven’t been, you need to come to Camden Yards. Once of the best iconic ballparks left!
Oh my goodness! That is some pitiful attendance. Wow, how do they continue? Well, maybe the attendance is low because of that knucklehead with the cowbell.
When I lived in Tampa we would buy the cheap seats for Yankees and Red Sox games then make our way down to the better seats at the trop. Day games got sparse crowds so the didn’t care.
The same thing happened when the Florida Marlins had their 2 World series runs. Of course, they were playing at Hard Rock Stadium back then. BTW I like your stadium tours! No wonder there's talk of the Rays moving to Montreal or Orlando!
Slowly drifting away from Disney stuff for a while . Certain events I will film tho and resort stays and whatnot but won’t be as prominent as it was in the past
Agreed with your observation about Tampa and the crowd size for a first place team. Some of that due to it being an afternoon game. And ahhhh…. a hot dog. Yum!
