The only trade I can think that belongs on this list that wasn't mentioned was the STL-WSH trade that landed WSH RG3, it didn't go well and then a few years later when the two teams played, the captains of STL to come out to the field for the opening coin toss were the six players picked from the picks WSH gave up. Jeff Fisher was a lot of things for STL, but this troll job was LEGENDARY.

RG3 was the OROY that year and had the highest rookie passer rating and TD/int ratio at that time. The problem was his stupid coach sent him back into the game when he was already injured, and he got seriously injured.

Part of the reason the trubisky trade was so bad is because San Francisco WASNT drafting a QB. The bears sold the farm (or at least all the equipment) just so another hypothetical team didnt trade up in front of them instead.

Thank you for starting this list with Steve Largent. When you go back on film, it boggles my mind how smooth he played (no gloves by the way) and how easy he could at times make it look getting past the defender. The guy was a QB's best friend and for a young franchise like Seattle, that's probably the best compliment you could give him. Also the fact he would walk into the stadium alongside regular fans endeared him heavily to the Seattle area. When you think of how Houston couldn't get past that Steeler wall in the AFC and the fact they let a Hall of Famer go for that cheap...

I think the Bears-Panthers trade this year should be up there. - Caleb Williams or Marvin Harrison Jr., 2022 9th overall pick (The favorite for DROTY was taken here), DJ Moore and 2 2nds for Bryce Young, who has been awful and likely doesn't have the size for the position.

There's no reason to talk about it much yet when year 1 isn't complete. Bryce has looked more competent without Reich (even if he faced a Joe Barry defense) and he's got zero supporting cast. One deal from back in the day that should be on this list, or at least close to it, was the 1970 Paul Warfield trade. Not only did this trade help the Dolphins win 2 super bowl titles, including a perfect season, but the reason the Browns made this trade in the first place was so that they could acquire QB Mike Phipps. As a general rule, i feel like whatever you think its worth giving up to acquire a potential franchise QB, trading away your no 1 receiver is a really really bad idea, since it makes said rookie's job a lot harder than it otherwise needs to be

I can think of a Bears QB trade that was worse than Trubisky: in 1997 they gave up a first round pick to get Rick Mirer from Seattle. He didn't even last until mid-season, and was released in 1998. The Seahawks got the 11th overall pick in 1997 out of the deal, and traded up to 3rd overall to draft CB Shawn Springs.

This is a great list. As a Giants fan, I have to put the Craig Morton trade in there. They acquired him in the middle of the 1974 season in exchange for a package of picks that included a 1975 first-round pick, which ended up being the #2 overall pick because the Giants were so bad. The Cowboys used the 1975 #2 overall pick to draft Hall of Fame defensive tackle Randy White. Morton was terrible with the Giants, and then to add insult to injury, they traded him to Denver and he made it to a Super Bowl there. The 1970's Giants were horrendous.
@leohawk776
@leohawk776 5 месяцев назад
The Hershel Walker trade is the worst because the Walker deal included MORE picks if the players traded to the Cowboys got cut. Which, they did. The trade made the NFL draft a cornerstone market to be taken seriously as opposed to the cavalier way it was treated before. The cowboys ended up with around 4-6 extra picks because the players traded to them didnt make ANY of the benchmarks that would have allowed the Vikings to keep their draft capital. Still beats out the Watson trade, because the Browns are competing much sooner than the Vikings did. Other than that, great list.

In 2009, the Bears traded a second round pick to Tampa for former #4 overall pick, DE Gaines Adams. The guy never had a sack for Chicago and sadly died the next year of an enlarged heart. There's 2 other bits that make the Watson trade even worse. Baker is playing good ball down in Tampa (also played well in LA last year). And of course the Joe Flacco situation. They might seek a trade partner but you just don’t incur that massive of a dead cap hit for a player who had a touchdown to interception ratio better than 3:1 If you’re out of the playoff race, or barely hanging on by a thread, it makes sense to take a look at the backup quarterback Besides, if Russ is to be cut, I’d think he would be inactive for the final two games instead of QB2

Brett Favre was an alcoholic in Atlanta so I believe if the Falcons kept him he would have been a career backup. Therefore I think it rightfully doesn’t belong in this list . I would say the Colts giving a 1/3 for Carson Wentz was one of those “what the hell?!? trades” as well as Sam Bradford from the Eagles to Vikings for a 1/4 was extremely head scratching . Both of those were the Eagles sending an ineffective injured quarterback for 1st round picks.

@@shawnjohnson9763 Bradford was hot garbage from the start. He tricked many in his first year with what appears to be highly efficient play but in reality the man was nothing more than a check-down king, racking up high completion percentage and a good TD-INT ratio but he couldn't push his offense down the field. He was the epitome of the shortcoming of the NFL rating system, which gives a QB who goes 3 for 3 for 9 yards (and a 4th down punt) a higher passer rating than a QB who goes 1 for 3 for 33 yards (with a new set of downs 33 yards closer to the end zone).

@@shawnjohnson9763 I don't know about his second year development prior to injury, but I watched him play on team after team once he became a journeyman and he played the same way he did his rookie year. Great for a backup and decent for a run first team, but he was way too much about small-ball and it kept leading to good stats in low scoring losses and that is what did in his career. Now it's not all his fault, if he just for some reason never got out of that mindset from his first year, the team GMs could have at least set up offenses to take advantage of his strengths and minimize the weaknesses, namely develop a tough running game and get small, nimble receiving targets who specialize in catching short and evading a tackle or two to extend the play on YAC yardage.

As a Bears fan, i will always hate the Trubisky trade. Add to that the Chase Claypool trade too. A terrible wr living off 1 good season. That was Poles' first big miss off him at GM.

Thank you for mentioning the Claypool trade. That belongs on here over Mitch. At least Mitch has the following accolades: highest single season QB rating for a Bears QB, only Bears QB to throw for 300+ yds in a playoff game and most recent Bears QB to make a Pro Bowl(which broke a league worst 33yr streak of no Pro Bowl selections for a Bears QB).

As a Vikings fan, the Hershel Walker trade should be on top. The picks that built the Dallas dynasty are just the tip of the iceberg. As my uncle would tell me every year during xmas we also traded a bunch of good players that we could not resign after Dallas cut them. This traded is the main reason Chris Carter does not have a ring.

I’d say the trade for Bryce should have been up there. The Panthers traded away DJ Moore, the pick that turned out to be Jalen Carter, and their pick next year, which will most likely be the number 1 pick. DJ Moore and Jalen Carter have been lighting it up, while Bryce Young has sucked and they also lost the rights to draft Caleb or Marvin Harrison Jr.

I feel like David Boston needs to be an honorary mention for multiple trades. Finishes out his rookie contract and the Chargers sign him to a 7 year, $47 million contract with $13 million guaranteed in 2003! NOBODY was getting guaranteed money back then. Played 14 games with the Chargers until Marty suspended him & traded him to the Dolphins for a 6th round pick. He didn’t even make it out of camp for the Dolphins before testing positive for steroids & suspended for 4 games. Then he tore his knee ligaments before he was even served his suspension. Out for the season. Dolphins cut him at the end of his 2nd season - only played 5 games and caught 4 passes for 80 receiving yards for them. Tampa Bay picked him up but was released before the regular season after catching a DUI. Then bounced to the CFL where he caught 2 passes and was forced to retire due to multiple injuries. Boston had SOOOO much potential but squandered it.

I've never been as sure of a player coming out of college, and in hindsight he would've been one of only a handful of players in NFL history that actually would've been worth trading an entire draft class for.

That bears team wasn't in the playoffs because of him, they made it because of their defense at the time Also. You brought up two random games like that's supposed to magically take away how ass he is. Hence why he isn't a starter permanently.

At the end of the day, the Trubisky trade was that bad. If you're paying the premium to jump 1 spot in the draft, you'd better get it right AND there needs to be people actually wanting to jump the line to get that guy. I just don't remember hearing anything at the time about there being a bidding war for Mitch. The Niners had just paid Jimmy G and would be insane to take a QB there, and again I may be misremembering but there wasn't talk of a bidding war to go to #2. So yea, giving up assets in a bidding war with yourself is just bad.

Hear me out. Hershal Walker Trade is the worst. The Brown's are not as bad off as the Vikings were at the end of the trade. If the vikings kept those players and picks they may have come out better and may have even won a superbowl. Instead we have the dynasty that is Dallas in the 90s. What did the brown's end up giving the Texan's? Arguably freeing up the team to pick Stroud, that is it. No dynasty, no big all time great players. So Walker deal is the worst.

As a Browns fan trading for Deshaun Watson was the WORST trade any team could make because: 1. We have been left in financial turmoil 2. We lost our first round pick for the upcoming year and this upcoming offseason 3. Finally it is very clear to me that Deshaun doesn’t even give a shit about playing now he just wanted to get paid and why the hell would he play when he’s guaranteed 250 million dollars

1. Tons of qbs get paid close to Deshaun and aren't in financial turmoil. AB will figure it out. 2. A late first round pick is not the end of the world. They usually only become above average starters. 3. Say what you will about his play and his character but the amount of hits he's taking to either extend plays or get a few extra yards confirms to me that he's not phoning it in. I still think Ricky Williams and DeHop trades are way worse because you can't see the logic in it. While it didn't work out Deshaun did have 4800 yards and 33/7 td-int ratio (plus his rushing upside) so you can't say there wasn't upside or logic to this gamble.
@autisticDementia
@autisticDementia 6 месяцев назад
@JordTheeNord 1) the first half of what you said makes no sense I never said the qb I said the team and beyond just Deshaun we have a total of 5 of the highest paid positions in the NFL 2) after we traded for him he could have gone to federal prison so trading all of what we did for a guy who could have gone to federal prison was nonsensical 3) ok I actually agree with the point about the draft pick And finally maybe instead of saying trading for Deshaun was the worst trade in nfl history we can agree that it was the biggest gamble in nfl history

I would argue that if we only considered the trades themselves and not the subsequent crazy contract extensions with loads of guaranteed money that the teams signed their bust to, the Walker trade would probably still be number one, the Watson trade would only be mid-list, and the Russel Wilson trade would be at the bottom or not on the list.
