USA was 2nd in the world, mostly because of Jimmer (No1 in the world), but dude got injured early in the second game. Without him and no sub the rest of the tournament, USA didnt have a chance.
You forgot to mention that 1. jimmer fredette got injured in the first paris olympics game. And sat out for all remaining 7 games. Which forced other 3 players to play without substitution which is a key for 3x3, Where 1 player always substitute after every dead ball. 2. And also this current team won world cup last year, so they are not bum but yes always could get better. 3. Also 3x3 ball is size 6 with size 7 weight for mens. So NBA players will need an adjustment. 4. The foul and physicality rules are much different from 5x5. 3x3 is basically playing with prison rule compared to NBA rules.
It didn’t fit the narrative of the video. And yes he absolutely didn’t mention we only had three players and no substitute. Berry played well scoring 15 points in a game of 21.
It's impossible to win when you are missing one player. 3x3 is very fast, dynamic and physical. Plus teams don't have any time to rest before the next game
Three things you missed out on covering in this video. 1.) team USA is a pro team called team Miami, they are actually pretty solid team majority of tournaments and won the World Cup last year so in theory they should’ve ran it back. 2.) since March the team has been dealing with injuries and have been playing with a reverse for the past 5 months before Maddox came back so they weren’t ready from the start. 3.) the only way to play 3x3 in America(and this goes for every hooper.) is by going through Kevin garnet’s hoop it up, they are supposed to have local tournaments across the nation to get better players a chance to rank and qualify but they have been canceling locations left and right it’s impossible to play unless it’s a invitation only. There’s supposed to be a pro 3x3 league but that’s been cancelled as well. So AM though I agree that some nba players would help but this game is more physical you need goons like draymond, Greyson and a Dillon type of players to get medals
the way he is talking is leaning to "save a spot for USMNT"! even in Europe most of the best players dont really want to go play 3x3 on the street while they have their season going on Most of the guys that qualify for the OG have been pretty solid all year
@@StephTerry-c2y it’s different from big three there’s more there’s no time limit in the big three so shot selections mostly consist of iso match ups 3x3 forces you to be quick and accurate with your shots.
@@StephTerry-c2y Ice Cube is not looking to improve 3x3. he only cares about makinig money, thats why Adam Silver gives him a cold sholder. Notice that he only cares about ex players, because those can bring their fan base. Nothing else.. but have fun if you like it
I'm disappointed that you didn't include that Jimmer got hurt in pool play!!! His knee is literally torn. And it was in there second game. So don't just be a hater man
Jim Thorpe is insane if you'd know his story. At one point, he was arguably among the best football players, track runners, baseball players, fencers, lacrosse players, and basketball players. He also was the NFL's first president. The King of Sweden was right about him too. It used to be common to refer to Thorpe in the same way we refer to a Swiss army knife. He eventually got his medals back in 2022... 70 years after he died
Is everybody forgetting the rules difference?? FIBA 3x3 is so boring to watch, although in a much faster pace. Possession for the team who gets scored on and 12 secs to attack??? Nobody plays like that, and without pause when a basket is made. With those rules, I see ex-NBA stars doing even worse than the current team.
You could literally find the 3 best guys in prisons across the east coast and they would take home at least silver I was actually in jail with a guy that was minor league baseball player You would be surprised at the kind of talent you would see in those prison basketball games 😂 I barely got on the court and I started PG all 4 years in HS Dudes were dunking on people and everything
0:17 how in the hell are we the second worst country in 3x3 basketball when you have to qualify to make it to the Olympics in the first place? Now if you say we’re the second worst out of the 8 teams then that’s different. How many other countries were trying to qualify to be in the Olympics?
We got 2nd to the undefeated Serbia squad last year by 2 points in the last FIBA 3x3 World Cup with this team. We were basically playing all these teams 4 on 3 because one of our players got injured so we couldn't sub him in.
USA was ranked 2nd in the world, but Jimmer who was No1 in the world got injured the second game in so it was 4v3 for the rest of the games and Jimmer was the main reason they got to 2nd in the world
Awful video. No nba player could play in the olympics even if nba would let them. You have to play all year long and collect ranking points. The team has to have 2 players in top 10 and 2 players in top 50 in its own country points wise. Team usa was one of the favorites to win in the olympics but they were bad because Jimmer got hurt in the second game and didn't even play the other 5 games. 3x3 basketball is more physical and more uptempo so that's why they sub each other at every whistle. Usually the tournaments lasts two days. So imagine playing a whole week with every game on the line without your best player and without substitutions. Money wise, most of the european players play in the 2nd league of their country and they go to 3x3 tournament quest because the prize money is bigger than their salaries. I believe that would not apply to the states and for example ice cube's league. I believe those guys earn not a bad amount of money. And for the whole 3x3 basketball itself, everybody has their own opinion about it. Whether you like it or not, it allows other players (that are not that good to be 1st league players) to have a good career and represent their countries on the world stage. By the way, Dylan Travis is not a euroleague player and never was. Just try to do more effort on your videos and takes because lately you're on a little downhill compared from a year ago or so when i started watching you.
And for example, my country Lithuania got third place, even though the have 0 players in our first country league, THEY ARE ALL FROM SECOND LITHUANIA LEAGUE. but they won third place, because they played from the HEART, TOGETHER, AS A TEAM! That can not be an EXCUSE that america had a bad team. Thats a huge shame to talk that america had a bad team. Every country had a much worse team than their 5x5 team.
Good point. I like the Big3 league with retired players, but it's even slower paced than the NBA (which has fast breaks and full court play). Big3 games feel more slow and methodical with more posting and back to the basket play.
These old heads dont know what its like to compete at the highest level of FIBA 3X3. Its a disgrace and disrespect to all countries to think that this Big 3 League players will come in and act like its a walk in the park. The transition offence to defence the minimum at ISO plays you have in 12 seconds, this comes to a team game. The Americans ar just sour that they cant dominate at this level. Instead they are making fun of their OWN countrymen, way the go for a nation that is so proud of being all for one! IF they want to compete with their best NBA Retired players or players who need to be in the 3X3 team, they should take the official 'FIBA' route. Which means bring a team together, do the world tours, go to the Qualifying tournaments and then play! To play for money is not what the olympics are, who talks about that? its about your nation, your pride, putting your country on the map!!! Yes i am dutch, and yes i know these guys in person! i know what our nation build for the last 10 years! and yes it is true that in a 5-5 we have quality players but cant hardly compete with the big euro teams in Europe! but that is because our country isnt a basketball country (2 bad). When we talk soccer we are one of the best teams in the World (ranked 7) and then were ranks USA at?? yes all the way at spot (16). And we only have 17 MIL people living here. Ice Cube with his own created league and rules is just "entertainment" and will never get the recognition he hopes to get that just facts. There is a reason why Adam Silver is investigating a crossover between NBA and Euroleague, because the international game is catching up
you are so wrong on this one. Jimmer was one shot who rimed out away from world championship last year against Serbia. The 3x3 season is during the fiba season like every other league. Players needs to play to qualify. France invested in players two years ago and they gold the silver medals. The Fiba doesn't want 5x5 players to play on 3x3, they want to develop a 3x3 league. That's for the benefit of the fans and the players. Several countries have already a long 3x3 culture (check out Novi Sad). The US has a huge potential in 3x3 but, maybe you got a point right here, the NBA simply doesn't want the 3x3 to be developed in the US as they would be a very entertaining rival.
Thanks for covering the Big 3 drama. A lot of good stuff on Jimmer, but you really need to mention his early injury and exit at the 2024 Olympics to paint a correct picture.
Jim Thorpe was originally one of the greatest professional football players, on top of being an Olympian. One of the greatest athletes of all time. I actually didn’t know his name was James Francis Thorpe. In all the football books I’ve read it’s always just Jim. 🤣
Jimmer Fredette was the highest rated player among all countries in the run-up to this. He was injured in this tournament for the last four games and wasn't playing.
i think jimmer was good enough to be a solid player in the nba but his outsized ego and inability to buy into coaching made him blackballed by the league and now those habits are so engrained into him that it’s impossible for him to actually make it in the league.
How you guys not understand this! You need to play in the FIBA 3x3 event or 3x3 world tour to gain ranking point to be eligible to compete in the Olympics. Fredette competed in event so he earned ranking points. If the US has so many good basketball players why aren't they calling up each other to compete as a four a FIBA events. They just aren't. If American ballers cared they would be playing in those FIBA events earning points for their team and themselves. They don't put in the effort to be the best, So you don't get the best results. Fredette wanted to compete in the Olympics so he put in the effort to compete in events to earn his ranking. Can we say anything about the effort from your retired ballers! Did your BIG 3 players compete in FIBA events! Did you put in any effort? It seems like the other countries did!
Buddy most of these guys played in the NBA for a good 10-20 years I understand they dont want to go through the qualifiers stage when they already lost a bunch of time playing as pros for example kids growing into men without them being there
Also FIBA only applied that BS “you need to have 3x3 playing experience to participate in the Olympics” because they knew if we could call up whoever we want we would just dominate this event like the 5X5 regular basketball format lol its so obvious they wanted to give others a chance
If our retired NBA players and the best players from the “Big 3” played in this FIBA garbage they’d win the Gold Medal Game 21-1 Americans, we OWN Basketball
@@rumbL24 Hopefully they take Ice Cube up on his offer then and their Trash FIBA “Gold Medal” 3x3 team plays the Big 3 Allstars of Rashard Lewis, Carmelo, Joe Johnson and Rasha McCants We all know what would happen, look no further than the 92 Dream Team, the 2008 Redeem Team and the 2012, 2016 and 2020 Olympic teams
My uncle was a world champion rower in the 70s and their team even beat the olympic team but werent allowed to compete as olympians themselves because they had sponsors.
I don’t think NBA skills translate to 3 on 3 unless the player dedicates himself to learning the strategies and tactics. There’s lots of switching, screens, double give and gos. The flow and pacing is way different than full court. It’s a very specialized skill.
The Big 3 would actually be a good place to look but it would take ice cube committing a team to the 3x3 world tour to get experience and adjust to the speed of the game. I hope he does it but I doubt he will.
This was actually the best 3x3 team we've ever had. 1. Jimmer is not the best in the world. Stoichic is from Serbia, but jimmer did get hurt. Probably career ending. 2. 3x3 is actually very hard for American players to adjust to. It's fast, it's physical and it's 10 minutes pretty close to nonstop with no coach. G league teams have tried and failed.
I've played a few tournaments and you're absolutley right, there is no breaks when on the floor, its physical as hell and the focus to make a jumper gets harder as the game goes on. it took me a while to really understand how to play that style but its really fun and ultra competetive
3x3 is great fun to play and it is a great training exercise to practise pick and roll, one on one, cutting, etc. But as a spectactor sport? Hell no. I am a huge basketball fan and I played the game myself at all levels, but 3 on 3 simply does not resonate with me. I do understand that US basketball largely ignored it, it is a simply forgetable sport event.
Where is Ice Cube? He needs to put a squad together for 3on3 Olympics. Edit: Adam Silver and his alien looking behind need to let the Big3 win a gold for USA
3X3 is positionless, no-rest basketball with only 12 seconds of possession time. You have to play offense while thinking about defense. Michael Beasley, Corey Brewer, and I guess Joe Johnson could have played in the Olympics, but retired NBA players with bad knees won't last against the Europrean stars that can do fadeaway threes after getting the rebound. I guess Earl Clark and Pargo can be considered as well.
tbh man as great as Timmy is hes the best power forward arguable but he doesn't fit 3 on 3 basketball we like to see players like Jamal crawford or kyrie or those big man that can dribble well and hit the 3..😊 if the NBA would assemble the best 3v3 players this generation it would be Kyrie, KD and Chet... 😊
@@jvaq3d999 He is deadly at mid range with his bank shot, he can rebound, and he’s the best defender out of all six of those players. It’s true he’s not known as a three point shooter but he has won entire playoff series from him shooting a clutch three pointer.
I personally like the Fiba 3x3. They should be in the olympics and should be seperated from 5v5. Just like it is right now. It's a different, faster and more physical, sport with smaller ball and different rule set. I you've never seen 3x3 game, have a go, maybe you'll like it
they shoudl have made a team up of recently retired NBA players- like the big 3. you telling me: Carmelo Anthony Dwyane Wade Blake Griffin John Wall - all wouldnt jump at the opportunity to win a gold medal? i mean the gold medal from the 3x3 is worth exactly what the full national team is- ONE GOLD MEDAL. i dont see why they dont invest the same time and money and resources into it- it could be a massive marketing and promtional thing- and a really exciting sport to boot.
