Im 58 yo Native American, Navajo. I have been diagnosed with hypothyroid after Graves disease, diabetes, low testosterone, high estrogen, kidney, and liver issues. I started keto/carne for about a month. My A1c was at 8.0 in March. The highest ever for me. I had to do something. I have tried so many diets since 2000. Doctors told me to accept my weight, 260 lbs, from 165. No thyroid, low testosterone, etc, weight gain. My numbers gradually rose 24 years with the many pills prescribed. Recently, I quit all my meds and carbs cold turkey. Could barely walk 1/2 block. Dizzy with vertigo, high blood pressure, and glucose. Insulin was offered but declined. I can beat this. I started with ketone strips. It shows 40 or moderate for 2 weeks now. Losing 1/2 lb daily with calorie deficit and exercise. No more fry bread or tortillas. 😂 I started macro counting, which helps me learn of the foods Im eating. I was eat 3x the portion and too frequently. Native has been a US gov't statistics on health since the 1960s. There are no mentions of carnivore diet in all the nutritional educations given. Never! My morning 16 hr intermittent fasting glucose today 88, ketone moderate on urine strip. ❤ Waiting on ketone test strips for blood. Thank you all. Be blessed!

I started The Keto Diet 3 years ago and only religiously tracked/logged my macros and measured blood sugar levels every Monday morning. I never ever measured by Ketones - using any methodology. I lost 50 kgs and have kept the weight off for more than a year. Have now transitioned to carnivore. I think measuring ketones is not necessary - though do it if you need the affirmation. Each to their own but I think most people realize the urine strips are useless. The blood measuring systems are subject to fixations and expense. I advocate people starting KETO to not get insane about it: adhere to your target macros, check your weight twice a week (NOT twice a day!) and measure circumference of your waist, biceps and thighs once a week to confirm fat loss ( important to note a person's objective is usually fat loss NOT necessarily 'weight' loss and this is especially true if working out to build/firm muscles). I am 67 YO with current excellent health markers. I think it is a mistake to in any way make people think they must measure their ketones. Do it if you need the reassurance but if you follow the diet properly - and everyone knows if they are - then I believe measuring ketones is unnecessary. In the start of KETO I believe religiously tracking your macris/calories is a must - at least until you know them cold. Selling equipment/tools is GENERALLY a YT influencer revenue generating activity - and particularly a Californian fixation.

Hi Thomas, thanks again for this video. However, this video pretty much disputes your video from Jan 11, 2019 which states that breath ketones (acetone) are not worth tracking. I have been tracking my breath ketones for 18 months and haven't been out of ketosis that entire time, according to my breath meter I agree with Dr. D'Agostino that it validates my diet choices, and keeps me on track, especially when I am no longer losing weight or in a stall. Fyi, 64 yo female, 5'7", currently 140 pounds, down from 206 in 2020.

I got a biosense about one month ago. I started keto about 2months ago using just a cgm. tracking via ketones AND a cgm and with biosense his givin me a MUCH better sense of how different eating regimes and different foods related to my fat burning better than just the cgm alone. specifically the biosense has showed me the effects of intermittent fasting as well as eating smaller meals. and my weight loss has accelerated as a result of th data from the biosense. great video!!

The problem with ketone blood meter is more often than not I am .3, .5 or maybe as high as .7 but I have been keto for a while now and likely very efficient at creating only what I need, and if I am fat burning correctly the ketones should be low right??? Will the Biosense tell me what I am burning so I know what I am using vs what is just hanging around in my blood??? And is there any need to send this off to the manufacturer for calibrating??

I have the new keto mojo. i dont drink alcohol. Im 62 not a body builder 🙂 been keto 3 years SW 270 CW 188. no not at my hope to get to weight but so much better than i was. I want to know if blood glucose or ketones are MOST important

glucose is more important bc youre always using glucose and it mirrors insulin,,, you dont need to measure ketones bc most likely youre not in ketosis even on keto unless youre doing the diet perfectly,,,

I just got a cheap breath meter and it seems to have about an 8 hour lag. I had, with a steak, a purple sweet potato which was cooked, frozen and re-heated at 3pm. First my ketones went up. By bedtime I was borderline in ketosis. In the morning I was kicked out with a "0" reading. About 20 hours after eating the meal I am still at "0". Maybe it is just me or I need a better meter.

When I am eating just lean meats and I monitor my ketosis my evening numbers are 40 -80 ppm but in the morning they are 0. After fasting all night. I don't get this.

Everytime I "cheat" I always feel like shit. But tracking macros has become second nature even when I'm not following the diet I have to know what the macros are for those Mcdonalds nuggets.

What do you do if you use various methods of tracking & get conflicting info. How do you keep from going crazy. I have a whopping 7 lbs to lose. I was within 4 but then changed my exercise to more weight lifting & increased my weights. So I gained some muscle & now I’m fretting over what I did wrong

I’ve lost 150lbs on Keto over a 4 year period and didn’t measure or test for anything. Once in awhile I’ll test my glucose, but not on a regular basis. I’m 61 years old and just had OHS to have an Aortic Valve replaced - not related to Keto at all - totally congenital. I also had been diagnosed with a severe fatty liver 4 years ago, along with the genetic blood disease called Hemochromatosis. So, I’m not sure I’m going to buy anything here. I just know when I’m in Ketosis.

its really difficult to be in ketosisos ppl on leto are not even in ketosis since youre always burning sugar and some fat at the same time,,, ive been doing keto for 6 months and have not registered any ketones until i overhauled my keto diet and exercise regime,,,

Always appreciate the insight Dom brings and this was a useful interview. But the clickbaity title isn’t entirely accurate, is it: he doesn’t say using blood ketones / BHB is “wrong”, just that there are situations in which it might not reflect your actual BHB production (depending on if you’ve exercised and also, crucially, how long you’ve been doing keto ). And like you said, breath ketones need to be taken with a pinch of salt as well (and Dom has said there are limitations to using breath ketones at very low or very high levels of ketosis, I think)

Thomas I have been driving into the keto lifestyle for 5 Months now I have lost over 156 lbs but am still wanting to learn so much more but I am so scared to start carbs again the scale now controls my life I will never put dirty carbs into my body again but just want to be fully healthy I would love to know if u have a hotline to reach out to u would love just a few mins of your time

I've been using it for a year. I like it, but the app needs work. What I do like most about it is that I don't stick myself anymore, having been keto for almost four years, so I don't worry about blood ketones or glucose, and I don't pay per measurement. I have a general idea where my ketones are from the acetone on my breath. Since I treat chronic pain with therapeutic ketosis, it's nice to keep track. PS: Interesting the other commonly-advertised device was advertised on this video.

Hey I have chronic pain and do ketovorish for same (3 yrs, mostly omad). May I ask any tips on things you've elliminate from your diet that helped? I know 100% gluten free and reduction of any seed oils are. the best problems to avoid. tyia! ❤🙏

@@dana102083 Well, I try to eat more SMASH fish and less beef, rarely pork or chicken; while trying to eat as low packaged food and added sugar and seed oils as possible. Chicken breast is okay. I cook it with EVOO. I eat a lot of shrimp after resistance training in particular. That or white fish. No hydrogenated anything or excitotoxins. I avoid any seasonings that are not pure spice because they’re almost always poisoned. This also means I almost never eat out for the same reason. Beware “natural seasonings” and pretty much anything on a food label you haven’t researched, if you do eat something packaged. I favor organic over non-GMO, over the rest, but bend a lot. In particular I use the clean fifteen and dirty dozen as a guide with vegetables. I don’t eat fruit except olives, avocados and tomatoes. I avoid all starches and grains, even if they fit within keto macros. I don’t avoid nightshades but that varies from person to person. I have no opinion on green leafy vegetables but I don’t eat them. Beyond that I try to maximize ketosis without limiting protein below my needs. This includes making sure I get at least 30g of animal protein in every meal, no matter how many meals I eat. I try to get an avocado a day, half at a time with meals if multiple meals per day. If only one meal, more protein and whole avocado. Some cruciferous veg with most meals. From what I can tell, 5 to 8 ounces of cruciferous vegetables actually improves ketosis. I get raw kimchi and raw sauerkraut too. So in summary, I think it’s as much what I eat as what I don’t. Other than that spending as much time fasted as possible including at least a day on weekends if possible, and an extended fast of the to five every couple months. The longer they are the more time in between, so five days means wait at least a couple moths before more than three again. Longer than that at least three months. That’s what works best for me besides consistent sleep and multiple 30-minute-plus walks in the sun each day. Hope that helps. Any tips for me? PS: I try to maximize grass-fed and wild-especially salmon, ghee and butter. TBH I’ve mixed in a lot of keto advice I’m sure you know but for me the trick is clean keto as possible without sacrificing animal protein. I think keto is often sold as low protein and I think that cost me, initially. That’s where copious wild fatty fish and grass-fed meat comes in.

@@dana102083 Oh yeah, I supplement with benfotiamine, magnesium complex and magnesium threonate in addition, along with the usual keto sups. I take a lot of herbs but can’t speak for their efficacy. The magnesium changed my life, though. There isn’t a day I don’t take it or potassium. Not sure about pain but I cramp if I don’t get enough potassium. I buy potassium citrate powder and put it in capsules because I need more than is practical over the counter in capsule form. I also use magnesium oil for spinal pain flare-ups. I was surprised to find it helps a lot sometimes. Also surprising are walks in the sun.

@@dana102083 prolonged fasting eliminates messed up cells and proteins ,,, these proteins are all gunked up and give you pain ,,, also conventional meat chicken and dairy are high omega 6 which increases inflammation,,

Measuring can't possibly matter if you're eating zero carb and avoiding, say, 96% lean beef for every meal (if you did that you'd die of rabbit starvation eventually, so...). Dr. D is right.. measure if you're titrating some mix of fasting and fat % to get some huge BHB number... but Joe Blow? Just eat plenty of fat on your zero carb diet with bouts of low fat for weight loss when needed. We can make this stuff too complicated. ;)

I am more interested in health markers .. if I’m losing weight and my BG aid in the zone and my BP is in check .. I do t give a flying fig Newton about ketones… I’m not going to obsess ..

Im back burning glucose as my primary fuel. Keto is great for loosing a crazy amount of weight but terrible to manage blood glucose. I struggled to keep my fasting and average blood glucose below 100 daily but once i added beets, carrots, and beans and rice on occasion and have gotten my fasting/average blood glucose down to the 70s-80s.

I do just fine controlling my BG on keto .. I WAS a raging diabetic .. now my A1c is no longer diabetic AND I am incrementally getting better ..

@@catholiccat8489 well the way i look at it if your A1C isn't 5 or under your not optimum. An A1C is an average blood glucose if around 97.

I have lost so much weight. That I have no fat left to lose. I have always had a high metabolism. Now how do I stay on keto for health but not weight loss. Eat a lot of nuts, and high fat in yogurt, kefir.

Thomas. The Doctors surgery battle axe receptionist is dead against a person breathing in state of Ketosis. It's something I do. Making no excuses being one who breathes in this state seems to be having those in society wise visceral fats are high or Black Majikians making people stay viscerally caked in bad fats. It's crazy to me Who is in me breathing the right way at the right times How do those Black Majik Battle Axes receptionists work the that way you know those skinny stern strict use the laws made to cover up any good truths namely in the so called Occult?
