As I have said in previous videos, people will lose jobs. I wish the leagues would have been more transparent with players and coaches. This is an overall good move for spring football. The expected life expectancy has increased. Spring football will live on at a cost.

Definitely a bittersweet day. While the future of spring football is in good hands, people will lose jobs. I wish both leagues had more communication, but hindsight is 20/20. What are your thoughts? Could both leagues have survived on their own or would they both fold in competition?

Yeah I would not say spring football is in good hands. These people have completely messed this up. Only 8 teams is an admission of failure for both leagues. They have pissed off half of the league. The only constant in spring football is that your team is folding. I really don’t believe it’s a viable option anymore especially with this generation. Especially since most of us have been in this since the AAF and now this crap. It’s over man, no one is going to care anymore. Too much heartbreak, no one is will to keep teams in place. I feel the XFL had a chance to survive the usfl was doomed from the start with their football tournament system instead of a league. But the constant pissing on the fans is what’s going to doom this league before it even starts. I really feel both leagues are incompetent. It’s not better to have one with 8 teams. It’s a complete admission of failure. Dude stop trying to put lipstick on pig. They messed this up badly.

The Philadelphia Stars were my favorite USFL team, and I live in Maryland, and I love the Redskins/"Commanders and dislike the Philadelphia Eagles, but I chose to love the Stars. Pretty ironic, right?

I’m personally pissed how does the more profitable league, and my personal favorite USFL seem like there taking a back seat to the XFL and how do you not bring along the most history rich team, the Philadelphia Stars who have been in every championship game but 1 and also my favorite team. I just don’t know if I love this yet. I’d rather the USFL had stayed separate. There was rivalry brewing with teams and there rule set was solid. Plus I’m personally sad that there’s a chance I won’t get to see Case Cookus play. Not sure how to feel.

It’s cause no one really believes that fox made money off that. The usfl wasn’t a league it’s a football tournament tv show. The XFL was the actual spring league and none of these league should make money their first few years. It’s hard to believe fox especially since they are know for lying.

Still trying to wrap my brain around it. Do I think to Spring leagues would or could work. Yes. I can only guess that the USFL was a year or two away from moving away from hub cities. Of course I would have like to have more than 8 teams survive.

while it is bad that people lose their jobs, it's always a possability for expansion in the future....if it goes back to markets that lose teams in this expansion..or expand and open up all new markets without existing nfl franchises as i think they should..

It won’t work. I am pretty sure that once the teams leave a market I don’t think it’s possible for them to come back. I know I won’t after the constant heart break of your team leaving. From the AAF to this crap, spring football is pretty much done.

Wow!!!! I'm so proud of these guys. I shot this idea through an email to every email address I could find even Roger Goodell last year before these talks surfaced. I know I won't get any credit but I love the fact this the second time I sent something to the bigs and it's happening. I expressed a new concussion protocol to the NFL after the Tua situation and what do u know they changed the rule immediately. Shout out to me NFL, XFL, USFL. If you guys want to pay me (unlikely) I'm negotiable I don't too much 😂

Excellent points. You approached this from perspectives that many fans probably didn't consider. I am putting the cart before the horse, but do you think the new league attempts to expand their merchandising to include a videogame. The NFL has its exclusive rights w EA sports. The 2K developers had a pretty well regarded nfl series before hand and have the most popular NBA series now. I wonder if the 2K and new league would try to work on some kind of arrangement to create a game. The main hurdle is money as games are expensive to make. Plus beyond the release companies have to service the games(in the modern era)

When they merged I was excited for 12 to 16 teams. When I realized they were just gonna have 4 from each league it bummed me out. I don't get why these spring leagues think they will be successful with just 8 teams. 8 teams playing each other over and over again. It gets boring. The fact that the NFL has 32 teams and 17 games gives variety. Each season is different. Makes playoffs more interesting. Spring playoffs is like 'well, they've already played each other so... that's an easy pick.' We all knew half way through the season who was gonna win. Boring. They have GOT to do 16 by season 2

think it will be the Gamblers. There was something in the agreement of fairness and equality for both leagues. So equal means 50-50. XFL gets 5 teams and USFL gets 3, not equal. XFL lost 66 million and USFL Made a profit, doesn't sound fair. Also, XFL fired the Roughnecks staff a while ago. Plus the NFL still has issues with the Roughnecks logo. Trust me if the Gamblers win the UFL championship game they will be happy in Texas. Let's not forget how many Brahmas fans were San Antonio Commanders fans?

XFL was/ is far better product....the ONLY reason USFL may have had better ratings weekly is because they played on a FREE network....But nobody was really watching, engaged or going to those games. FREE networks get rating in their sleep. It could of been 2hrs of somebody picking their nose.

People are going with 8 teams because there are 8 confirmed markets with stadium deals. BTW while people seem to be assuming the Houston Gamblers are one of the USFL teams to make it. Rumors are that the Gamblers will be rebranded as a Canton team while the Roughnecks (and the Houston market )are put on pause for a year.

Business is about making money. The nitch fandom of both leagues was not getting it over with casual fans who didn't want to bother sorting out which league to back. Nobody is going to burn through money forever to cater to a nitch audience. Now they can market the combined league as the primary alternative spring football league, formalize a development league relationship with the NFL, and get 3 network partners (FOX,NBC,ESPN/ABC) to promote spring football during the NFL and College football playoffs.

Makes no sense, why drop the Birmingham Stallions probably one of the best teams in both leagues? Having a team in Arlington makes no sense also, Choctaw Stadium, used to be Globe Life Park in Arlington and the home of the Texas Rangers who know occupy a new ballpark right across the street and, also nearby, is AT&T Stadium where the Cowboys play.

THANK YOU!!!!! All that you mentioned screamed lack of imagination and the ability to grab attention. Too many are in denial about it. For example, Birmingham Stallions, or, like the AAF had, Birmingham Iron? I would go Iron. I liked the Memphis Showboats, so that would pass. New Jersey Generals? What generals do we know that really represent the Garden State? Houston Gamblers? When was Houston known for that? They gotta go back to the drawing board on these.

Sean, here's my take. Every business needs a strong foundation on which to build. By taking the 8 strongest markets you have a very good starting point. If indeed these are the teams involved moving forward, I think it was a wise choice. Also, putting the other markets on pause is a good idea . I'm very bullish on this endeavor . Now heres my wish for opening day 3/30/2024 , along with attendance projections. Saturday afternoon 3/30 : Defenders v Panthers in Detroit attendance 25k. Saturday night 3/30 : Stallions v Battle-Hawks in St Louis 55k Sunday 3/31 : Showboats v Bhramas in San Antonio 30k Sunday night 3/31 : Roughnecks v Renegades in Arlington 20k Should these projections bear out I feel it bodes well for the long-term success of spring football. Complete mistake. They should have keep at lease 12 teams with only 8 it’s a complete admission of failure. Now they have literally pissed off half of both league and probably are not taking half fans with them to new league. So this new league the same size as one of the old leagues, with less fans. This was a very poor business decision. I expect this league to end after this season.

It is better for spring football to start off small and grow. These 8 teams has established fan bases and have the best chance for success. However we shall see.

We have already done this 4 times before now a 5th. (Aaf, xfl2.0, xfl3.0, usfl2.0) The 5th time is going to be same especially since the league have constantly pissed off the fans. How can there be any kind of success let alone long term success if everything is changed every year and teams come and go.

@@gwesman Hi gwesman . The evidence you laid out is spot on. However there are some factors that I take into account to bolster my optimism. The AAF was indeed a complete failure, no doubt about it. XFL 2.0, as with much of the rest of the world, was done in by covid. XFL 3.0 , although it incurred significant losses was on course for a 2nd season. USFL 2.0 was well on its way towards season 3 . A personal note if I may : I purchased my Stallions season 3 tickets , on August 18th 2023. So, Fox et al , were , though not completely satisfied with 2023 tv ratings, were definitely forging ahead with season 3. Now , the merger. Due to a plethora of favorable events. Now is the best chance for a new stand alone league to come into the market place. My evidence you ask. Okay a large number of great football hungry markets available. Also the willingness of the major networks to broadcast the games . There is an ace in the hole for spring football: 3 bona-fide NFL markets in St Louis, Oakland and San Diego are now available. Thats priceless. So I guess you can say I'm bullish on the future of spring football. Goooooooo Stallions Buck EM 😎

Rumor is that the Gamblers will be rebranded into being a Canton team while the Roughnecks will be put on pause. This is due to the USFL reopening season ticket sales only days ago while there have been concerns that with the late March start date Houston would be playing outdoor games in May and June where it’s super hot and humid.

They are going to rebrand the Gamblers into a Canton based team. The USFL just restarted selling season ticket packages in Canton only days ago. Why would they do that if the combined league has no hub system? They want the Ohio market and Canton supported hub USFL teams very well last season. There is also the concern that due to the March 30 2024 kickoff, any Houston team would be playing outdoor games in intense humidity and heat and would have had to relocate to Rice stadium due to renovations to TDECU Stadium. It just works better to put the Houston Roughnecks "On pause" for a season,then come back in 2025 when it can play in TDECU with a mid Feburary kickoff which was the original rumored kickoff of the combined league.
