Thanks for an informative video. Last year I tried to record bird songs in the field with the x-y mic on the H5 and all I got was a lot of noise (no wind but I had the gain dial at 10 to be able to record anything). Do you think a large diaphragm microphone and a cloud lifter would improve that type of recording? If so I'll try again this spring.

A large diaphragm condenser microphone is more suited for use in a studio environment. For bird song I think you'd better off with a shotgun mic. It'll be much more directional and better suited for the job. You’ll also need a windscreen or furry dead cat to cut wind noise. Good luck.
