I help you turn a passion into content here on RU-vid. I have 40+ years experience of working in professional radio, TV, and my own media content production business. In that time I've won numerous awards in the UK and New York, taught students how to create their own audio and video content, and created DIYVideoStudio, which is both a RU-vid channel and highly successful website. I've adapted professional content creation techniques so they can be used by home and small business creators working on a shoestring budget. So if you want to quickly learn how to turn your passion into content, SUBSCRIBE to the channel for weekly videos and also join me over on my website, diyvideostudio.com
I've been using the Adobe Enhanced Speech for a few months now and it's great! I also tested w/ different mics including a Blue-Yeti and my cheap $20 Logitech headset/mic and they all sound the same in the end. I think the cost is only $10 USD monthly after the 30 day free trial... Well worth it!
@RoadVoices I agree with you. Although it's not always perfect, it's quick and does a great job that allows me to create content more quickly, irrespective of the mic I'm using. Although I'd love to own the kind of microphones I used to use at the various radio stations I've worked for, there seems to be little point in spending all that money when this service provides such a good result at little cost.
I'm struggling to learn everything I need to record voiceovers over video for tutorial purposes. It's overwhelming between trying to find equipment, setting it up, and adjusting controls. Thanks for the direct to the point instructional. Cables ordered before the video was through.
A couple of years ago I picked up an old R8 to solve this problem. It works fine and I'm glad I have it, but it is far less portable than the H4n. Not sure how often I'll use this hack, but I definitely see a use case. Thanks.
Thank you. If you're getting noise in the headphones it's either because of mic pre amp noise due to turning the record level up high because of using a low output microphone or there's a fault somewhere. If it's mic pre amp noise, try to borrow a high output condenser microphone to see if that stops the high noise level. If it does, you can either get a condenser mic or buy an inline pre-amp. The latter will cost about $50 and boost the mic level by about 28dB, allowing you to turn the record level done on the H5 and therefore lower the noise from the H5's mic pre amps. However, if there is a fault it could be your headphones (try using another pair), the headphone jack socket, or a fault in the H5. If it's a fault on the H5 you'll need to get it serviced. Also, make sure you're using a set of headphones with a TRS jack (two black rings on the jack) and not a TRRS jack (three black rings on the jack). I hope that helps.
I must say I’m really glad I found your video. I was on the verge of buying a monitor ! So I got all the bits required and fantastic ! Everything works as it should. Except anything to do with touchscreen. I can use the zebra peaking false colour etc. but I have too change settings on the camera buttons. But I’m not disappointed. It’s just great too have a big monitor. Believe me, the Sony RX0 mkii needs it. It doesn’t seem to want to let me shoot stills though ? I’ll need to look into that. Thanks
What I'd recommend instead of the corded cable, I'd recommend a micro-HDMI to HDMI (female) converter and a short (50cm) HDMI cable. It has roughly the same profile.
Although you can record to the phone, that's not really what I would use this setup for, since you'd be limiting yourself. Yes you can record to the camera's SD card (providing you use the correct setting in the camera's menu), and that's what I do when using this setup with my Canon R and R6. I hope that helps.
Right click on the image or video file and then choose "Properties" to open the file properties panel. Then choose the "Details" tab. You'l find the Title and Tags field in the Description section..
Sorry for the noob question but I have not used the H5 yet - so if I record in stereo mode and use the "In1/2 Mono Mix" function it does create ONE combined file for both inputs instead of two files, is that correct? So in editing I would not be able to treat both inputs separately but rather would have to cut the one file I have (for example in a dialogue setting, depending on who is speaking I would cut the file there and then make adjustments, and I would have to go through the whole dialogue and cut the file on all instances)? Thanks for your video!
Yes, in Stereo Mode you will get one file that has two channels (normally a left and right) but the audio from the two inputs will be summed and that same audio will appear on both channels. It will effectively sound like a mono recording, although you have two channels. When you pull the file into your editing software you can treat it as a mono file since both voices will appear in the middle (assuming you're listing on headphones or two speakers). If you want to keep the two voices separate (so that you can have each voice on its own track in your editor, don't use the In1/2 Mono Mix, You can then easily split the file into two mono files, alternatively, record in Multifile mode and you will automatically get separate files for Inputs 1 and 2. I hope that helps.
USB Camera Pro is available in the Apple App store, so you should be able to use it when connecting a UVC compatible video capture care or device (camera).
Great tip. I had to photograph a lot of different coloured candles for a website, so I put my grey card in the first shot and processed them later in Lightroom, clicking on the card for WB and synced the whole lot. (The static shot lighting didn't change in the photos, we just replaced the candles each time). The colours were spot on.
That's great. For my product photography and flat lays I use a smaller grey card that has white, grey, and black sections on one side and the the standard 24 colour balance squares on the other side (although the principle is the same as with the pop-up card). As with your setup, if my lighting remains the same, I only need to take one shot with the grey card and use it in Lightroom or ACR to get all the other images looking correct.
oh wow am I ever happy to have found this. I was curious about doing this, ive got lots of old phones and use for body cams, dash cams etc.. but I would love to have larger screen for my Cam. Thx for the tips mate. Subbed. Cheers.
Modern power banks are designed to deliver the power the device requires, so there shouldn't be a problem. The cable itself isn't the issue, since the safety circuitry is in the powerbank itself, the cable is just a means of connecting the two. I've been using my H4n (and now my H5) with a powerbank for ages with no problems.
What microphone would you recommend for the Canon R ? Preferably one with a light weight, since I make videos of outdoors events with the camera hand-held and no tripod. This is not to record interviews or vlogging. I may be up to 16 feet away from the sound source while filming.
There isn't just one ideal mic, there are various things to consider, your budget being one of them. Ideally you would have a mic on your subjects (wired or wireless) or use a boom mic (but I'm guessing you're a solo shooter, so you won't have someone to handle the boom mic). At 16 ft from the subject, especially outdoors, you will not able able to pick up the best quality sound from individual subjects if using a camera mounted microphone, however, I have used a Deity V-Mic D3 Pro on my Canon R and R6 cameras when filming events and it has captured good location sound (you could also use the the equivalent Rode VidMic Pro+). The Deity mic plugs directly into the mic input on the Canon R and it also comes with a shock mount that fits on the camera's hot shoe. I hope that helps.
very helpful, I'm looking to upgrade from my APS-C canon 77D camera to a full frame mirrorless one and would like to still use some of my older EF lenses, regardless of the loss of quality some of them are sentimental to me and still produce some lovely photos with a bit of charm to them! something you often can't get with new lenses, striving for the perfect photo has never really appealed to me, I love to play around with old camera lenses + gear just to see what it can do, it's nice to know that atleast until I can afford the RF lenses I'll be able to use my existing ones as well!
This is a good video but it still doesn't bloody well work. So annoying when you set things up properly, press record (or use Zoom as in a online meeting) and then nothing records.
Hello mate. Just letting you know: For some reason, the product link for "Aokeo Fabric Pop Filter" to amazon is not working. The rest does but not this one. Quite unfortunate because I guess I will get this one and I can not support your great content with that now. I'll wait until you fixed that. Afterwards, I will order one. Thanks and greeting from Germany!
I haven't found wifi or Bluetooth links to be successful when shooting video. Furthermore, one of the useful aspects of this method is that your can (if you need it) record reasonable quality video and capture still images on your phone (useful for creators who want to show the back of their camera). Although Canon's Camera Connect app on my phone lets me control my camera (which is a good thing) it's unfortunately very laggy and the image cannot be made full screen. Both of these points are not significant issues when connecting the camera's HDMI output to the phone since the lag is minor and the USB Camera app can show the camera output full screen. Each connection method has its advantages and disadvantaged, so having more than one cheap option can only be a good thing.
I'm so happy this video came up in my algorthm. I plan on taking a holiday in Iceland later this year. As well as, I'm going to get into filming as I'm an actor and looking at different ways to get get that going without going into incredible debt! LOL SUB!
@@DIYVideoStudio Thank you! I really enjoy your video and look forward to me. You're straight to the point without unnecessary fluff. Cheers from Los Angeles!
Great explanation. Please can it be charging while on? Like to use for live streaming, can the charger supply power directly to the camera while it's on (streaming)?
Yes you can use the Camera Connect app. But you can't make the app image full screen and it can be very laggy and so unusable for video work. However, the camera app also has a number of advantages, such as being able to control the camera. This setup lets you have larger (better) view of what the camera is seeing that is reasonably lag free. It also lets you take screen shots of the LCD screen (with overlays), which is ideal if you're creating tutorials or How-To videos. So both this and Camera Connect have advantages and short comings.
First, check that your phone is OTG compatible. Use an app like USB OTG Checker. Assuming your phone is OTG compatible, try using an alternative USB camera app, such as Endoscope USB. I hope that helps.
