i found this version 3 days ago and laughed when I first saw this comment. I thought I understood what it meant even after the first day. It's day 3 now and I've watched this.. like a hawk.. about 7 or 8 times and I'm still just as intrigued.
I can definitely agree. Although, it be even cooler if you can drum along to this and then turn around and play the piano bit on the piano. If you can do that, it's safe to say you're a drumming and piano God.
If you watch the concert footage, he's doing all the work. 2 or 3 instruments at a time kind of thing. Kinda like Getty Lee with the foot piano while playing bass. Jpj is a monster.
My favorite song from them, possibly my favorite song of all time. The I'm so high part is amazing, absolutely amazing, I don't think anyone in the world shares the amount of love I have towards those lines and hearing them puts me in a different universe. Holy shit these men are geniuses.
when I watched this song performed at House of Blues in Hollywood, I truly felt sorry for my brother in 40's Dave Grohl. This song live easily goes 10 minutes and there are no breaks for Dave. He pushes and pushes and by the end he is drenched in sweat. I saw him poor two bottles of water over his head when it was all done. He is a way better drummer than he ever showed in Nirvana..
For Grohl fans who've heard all the usual suspects (qotsa, nirvana, probot,...), I recommend also giving Killing Joke's self-titled album from 2003 (not the one from 1980) a listen. Yet another side of Dave.
Barely Breathing rumours swirling more and more as time goes. Hopefully his divorce doesn’t end up being a bad one. The new desert sessions album only scratched the itch
imagine Dave's thoughts staring at one his idol... telling himself: i'mnot dreaming, I'm really playin' drums with Mr Jones, in the same studio and the same group!
@@gillesbourgeois5348 I think I witness JPJ look up for a sign of approval after keyboard outro which Grohl gives and then half a second later shrugs to say "Are you kidding me?" More Vultures please :)
It's what sold me on this song simply these guys as a whole, man. Totally reshaped and magnified the weight of the song. It's just the little, simple things they each bring, added together toset them apart. Brilliant.
This is one of the most dominating performances, song, and album in the last 30 years. Saw them in LA at the Nokia and it was frickin' sweet. This song is great on the album. Unbelievably awesome BBC cut. Nothing in the last 5 years has been better in the rock arena either.
As an album I honestly prefer ...Like Clockwork. I feel the album had more direction even though TCV was totally and utterly unique. Still both absolutely outstanding records
when was released Eleven's Howling Book ? 2003 I guess. That is one perfect album with Alain Johannes, whom we can see here on guitar and backing vocals.
Cheri Ruefer i am a fan since 2000.....be proud to find this bro on this days...back to the 2000,s i was dying to find the album who changed my life and it was the album from go with the flow!!....SHEERS!!
JPJ's solo at the end is fucking beautiful. The whole song is a total attack on the senses, this children, is proper music. Artistic brilliance. I love all these guys, too. Homme (pretty much my hero), Grohl, JPJ and Johannes. Tight as hell and all amazing at what they do.
This is one of my favorite live recordings of all time, and another one would be No Quarter by Led Zeppelin. I'm noticing a trend here... John Paul Jones is amazing.
Now what kind of masterpiece have I just stumbled upon? I can't believe I haven't listened to Them Crooked Vultures until today, I've been meaning to listen to their music for years but I always keep forgetting too. I'm so glad I listened to them as they sound so damn good.
Once, Out in the rain I was able to strangle my shadow, Then unshackle the chains. What? What will you do? Is it safe to play god in the garden and king of the zoo? Holes, Well they need to be filled. Positions available, Yet some are quite hard to get out of or get in. Spinning in the daffodils. Dizzy from a dozen twirls. Spinning in the daffodils. Cold, Alone and alive. You're afraid, But that's not what I asked, Wanna go for a ride? Sharpen your teeth my darlings, Sharpen your minds. Take a finger, if the hand feeds you shit, Take one scalp at a time. Fail, As big as a whale. Like a canine that's chasing a bone That's tied to his tail. I wish I was a beautiful balloon. I would rise up Above of it all, & fade out of view. Gracefully fade...fade out of view. What have you turned me into? Spinning in the daffodils. Dizzy from a dozen twirls. Spinning in the daffodils. What have you gone And done My love? Incinerated in the morning sun. I... Am so high I just May Never come down. (4x)
I still put this version on all the time- somehow even better than the album track, and that one's pretty damn good..love the 'No Quarter' comedown and of course Grohl's expression at the end pretty much sums it up perfectly 😀
The first time I heard this song I was very very stoned, it blew my mind. It was one of my best trips "When the freaking song changes and the bass gets louder than the there's a guitar solo at the end" yep that's the part the crushed me.
Just now viewing this performance, high as the Sierras, and I am overwhelmed to say the least by how explosive this arrangement is and how amazingly tight these titans are together!
My band likes TCV so much we decided to take on a few of there songs as covers including this one. Some of JPJ's riffs are so precise and difficult to copy that you end up just approximating the sound. His stuff is just damn good, simple sounding, but will kick your ass if you try to play it.
Number one on my bucketlist is to see them live , in the dictionary if u look up superband this is the image u wil see 100 year of experience on stage 😍😍😍😍
Epic lost it's punch man. I feel what you mean, epic in the archaic sense: the Roman tirade through Europe, Alexander the Great's rising to dominate the world. The true epic. Tl;dr tho, I'm stoned as fuck and felt your comment deep down haha.
Engraçado é ver a cara de admiração de todos os outros integrantes olhando pro Jhon Paul Jones tocar teclado. É uma honra pra qualquer ter um ex-integrante do Led no time! Brilhante.
This song sticks in my head in a way I can't describe. The groove is as deep as I have ever heard. The use of disonance and resolve is great. that pounding and grinding bass line along with the drumming make the rhythm solid. I just love it. The version at austin city limits kick it as well, toss up to name a favorite version. I wish there were more adventurous musicians out there like this in the industry today.
I found this band when I was really young, not sure how or when (probably through Dave Grohl), but I dug New Fang. Didn't have the attention span to listen to anything else, nor did it even frequent my playlists later on. If my mind was as sharp as it is today, I would have found and fallen in love with this song sooner. There's something about longer songs on an album that have the most beauty in them, especially when the bands perform them in an extended version live. It's also why I prefer You Can't Quit Me Baby to any other track on QOTSA's self titled debut. Hopefully I can be in a creative band like this someday.
the more i listen to this song the more it grows on me but, this, this is absolutely the best, cleanest and flawless performance i've heard yet. love the way Dave and Josh let the keyboards roll the ending....respect
