I cut them a lot of slack for the launch ships - Cryptic was fighting to get the game out on an extremely abbreviated schedule, thanks to Perpetual perpetually screwing around with concept art instead of game software.

I’m glad anytime an old ship gets revamped, we really need revamps on many of the alien ships like the Breen and the Klingon ships It’s funny they still haven’t corrected the lights on the nacelles of the Excelsior Retrofit, they are still not blinking from the actual light source.

The saddest thing is that they NEVER got around to remaster the TNG Season 3 to 7 standard uniforms. They remastered the First Contact uniforms twice over the last 14 years, the Deep Space Nine / Voyager uniforms once. Even the TNG Season 1 and 2 uniforms look much better than my favorite ones. I would appreciate if you did another video with all the uniforms THEN vs NOW (both Klingun and Federation faction).

The Revamps of the Shi'khar, Aurora, and Typhoon were all made by EC Henry. That man is a MASTER CHEF! Anytime I see his name being tied to a STO ship, I know we are gonna be Eating good. And the Lexington has a weapons pod. The Jamestown by EndeavourGaming has the Monitor's Hanger bay pod.

Thomas and the entire ship art team have just done a MIRACULOUS job of improving the ships.

The Shi'Kahr was always a kitbashed nightmare. And then you'd see someone flying one. Like that one person at Walmart with a mullet. I got the first Odyssey back in the day when they were giving them away for being with the game since the beginning. I think that was the reason anyway.

I been playing since beta and it never fails to amaze me how far the game has come since then. Looking at the differences between the original ship skins and todays is just mind blowing.

The OG Cryptic Sov is oddly endearing for how blocky and chonk it is - still glad it was replaced 😆

The idea of the phaser strips on the TMP Era ships was that the Federation was at war with the Klingons. They were devastated and stuck at a standstill. Needing ships they started pulling ships from mothballs and updating them to be fit for war.

As much as I love my Sagan, seeing the revamps of ships like the Exeter and *especially* the Excalibur made me so, so happy. I remember playing STO when it was on a CD-ROM (I still have the original box!) and adoring the Excalibur so much that I even made drawings of it. Getting to see her in such pristine form with the remaster, with all the Sovereign updates and the blue windows but still being very much the same ship model-wise and keeping her identity is just incredibly beautiful. It makes me appreciate how much more fun and beautiful and versatile STO has grown over the years. For an MMO that has been around for the better part of a decade, it feels less like we're winding down and more like we're blossoming and evolving to be better with every iteration and new ship that's introduced, and it gives me so much hope for the future of this game ❤

I remember pre ordering from Best Buy in Killeen, TX in 2009. Played until I deployed in 2010 then lost my login information until 2017. Came back to so much free zen and I’ve played pretty much every day since then!

It's really insane to see how far along this game came from where it was to now.

the remasters have been wonderful. i love the Aurora so much that i am sad we don't have a lost era campaign to enjoy it in. the fact the Avenger looks so good is one reason i decided to finish off my battle cruiser collection. I am really looking forward to the Typhoon, didnt even hate the potato version but this new one is a freaking jumbo cajun jojo.

I miss the Orginal Shikar nacelles they were so unique.

for me, when a saw the typhon class in that bundle from star trek invasion, i nearly ended up drooling on the floor. That game was my first for star trek and will always hold a special place in my heart. defo joining the giveaway for a chance to get it. good luck to all

I like most of the originals more. I also have terrible eye sight so I can't normally see or enjoy the finer details. Rough shapes and flat colors are most of what I see in this game. That said, Romulans should be green.

I believe Thomas said he had a chat with one of the original developers, the original developer told that they were in a hurry to make Star Trek Online or there wouldn’t be a game. So when Star Trek Online was being built the developers made the decision to make the ships like that, instead of making them look better.

I think the design language of modern STO ships is based on the principal language of USS Enterprise E with white/black design detailing with blue glowing windows.

Great video, it's funny I started playing in 2012 and I think even by then a lot of the launch era models at least of the hero ships had been phased out

What a blast from the past.

The Older hull materials especially for the alien ships look like there's random plates bolted on to the ships with no rime or reasons while the modern versions look like there's some engineering and planning that went to how the hull was built and it isn't just random plates in a shape of a ship. In terms for the faded Romulan hull material I wonder if the idea was that these are ships that been in use ever since the loss of Romulus with limited maintenance and their coating has faded due not having been replaced (when you got trouble finding spare parts for your reactor the paint job wouldn't be your first priority).

Wow! All I can say is wow! I started playing after some of these updates. I've been in game for about 5 years. To say the least, the game has come a very long way! They needed faith in the actual show and movies. It might have helped the devs be more acurate

A lot of the silhouette on the old models isn't too bad. They were easily identifiable. They did a good job for the technologies they had back then. I wonder how many percentage the polycount increased from the originals. Also how slowly things will run using current assets an at launch recommended spec PC.

Cryptic had a huge hill to climb when they first got the license. Some no-name company had gotten the contract and had bailed on the license as it was running out. Cryptic picked up the ball on the 0-yard line and made a full MMO in record time. I have issues with Cryptic, but the state of the game at launch is not one of them. There wouldn't be a STO if they had waited to make it pretty.

I do not believe you can change the Pod on the Lexington. I think the Hangar pod is a Mod from one of the artist on Twitter(X) that some how swaped it from the Monitor or made his/her own model of it.

The original Jupiter looked more like Jabba's sail barge from RotJ and performed like it too, I prefer the warp nacelles all being the same size though, not mismatched, looks weird.

It is so funny to listen to you people moan about escape pods you do realize the original skate pods were built by the same people who built the Galileo class shuttlecraft they were big they were boxing and they hid under Hall plates which were ejected when the escape pods were deployed so no they weren't obvious on some of the earlier classes because they were literally hiding underneath the hall plates duuuuh😐

I wonder why they were so obsessed with the dark colouring for the original models. The new models are definitely better. However, the new Aurora still looks ugly to me. The design is just horrible.
