Theory of Timelines & Multiple Universes (SONIC 2006 THEORY) | BLUE BLUR - Episode 13 

My theory is that everybody in Sonic 2006 had choices to make - Shadow doing things like turning down Mephiles, Silver choosing to give away the Chaos Emerald - the problem being that the only one who made the wrong choices was SONIC. Originally, Elise was saved by time travellers - those two time travellers are what caused the instability that caused the accident. Elise was SUPPOSED to die. Destiny desperately tried to kill her off. By saving her every time she was meant to die, Sonic was the one who warped the timeline, which was what really allowed Iblis to escape - not her death or her tears. When Shadow saved Sonic from Silver, SONIC should have been the one to time travel with Shadow, using the Cyan Emerald, and then leave it in the hands of the princess, to learn about the past. It would have made sense too - after all, it was the White Emerald which sealed Iblis in Elise, the White and Cyan emeralds that sealed Iblis in Blaze. Instead, Sonic chose to chase Eggman and Radical Train, saving Elise. You know, AGAIN. Instead, Shadow time travelled with Silver, with the BLUE Chaos Emerald, which wound up in the young Elise's hands, trapped in a Causality Loop - it being the beginning of the Causality Loop which caused the accident in the lab.

I have a simple solution to this whole problem. Sonic 06 is in its own timelines. The bad future and good "destroyed flames" future. 06 was meant to be a soft reboot. That simply can not be the case as I've seen in many different places that 06 was a clean reboot. This is supported by the blue chaos emerald being left in the past, causing the events of most of the classic games to be negated. The canonical first appearance of Silver is in Sonic rivals. As for Blaze with Sonic rush. As for crisis city in generations, we have to remember that Tails stated they were traveling though time and space. Note "Space". Along with that, Eggman states that the time eater can erase time and space. So it's not out of the realm of possibilities that the time eater managed to scoop up a bit of the 06 bad future. And for the events of Colors DS... Can we even consider that canon? We must remember that there was a 3DS version of Generations that no one considers cannon. Even if you want to bring up Sonic runners into the timeline and how they both have connections with the mother wisp, a lot of Sonic runners doesn't fit with in the main timeline. Finally, Blaze in generations... Continuity Error. They happen all the time and the writers of generations/colors have said they hadn't played any Sonic games before and had to look up cutscenes online. So it possible they just confused. Oh and as for Sonic, Silver, and Shadow remembering the events of 06. Let's just remember that Sega has not always given the most consistent information and have made mistakes. Well that's my idea.

Hold on, if Sonic 06'is theorised as a prequel to Rush, then why is it hinted that Blaze knows who Sonic is. When Blaze and Silver met Mephiles, he show him a vision of Sonic in the Blue Chaos emerald, showing him as the iblis trigger. But right after, Blaze replies with "Blue Hedgehog?" as if she's met Sonic before.

I personally think 06 is a different universe. almost nothing adds up

I Believe that Sonic The Hedgehog works on Multi Timeline Theory Like Silver going back in time and making a new timeline

In my opinion the only theory that holds up is that by Sonic CD the timeline is completely warped and constantly changing, and that would make more sense. It would make plot inconsistencies with characters such as Blaze (who is from the future in 06 but is from an alternate dimension in Rush Adventure). The theory is that Metal Sonic and Classic Sonic are constantly reframing the timeline since Sonic CD, resulting in parallels left and right, like the events of Shadow The Hedgehog, Sonic Racing, Sonic Adventures 1 and 2, Sonic Heroes, Sonic Colors, Sonic Unleashed, Sonic 06, Sonic and The Black Knight, Sonic and The Seven Rings, etc. This theory suggests that the only Sonic games that even get close to the original timeline are Sonic Generations, Sonic Mania, and Sonic Forces Rewritten. Every other game can be forgotten or rewritten easily, because they simply ain't canon chief.

Timelines theory does not work for 06. There are 3 reasons for that. 1) Omega Omega got into Silver's future not through time travel, but through going into stasis mode and waiting. That is only possible if Silver's future was always THE future of Sonic. 2) Loop of Shadow and Mephiles Shadow releases Mephiles. Mephiles starts hostilities between them. Shadow goes back in time to seal Mephiles. Mephiles vows vengeance, Shadow releases Mephiles. Repeat. Their meeting is stuck in a loop. Not two separate timelines, a loop. So your theory of how time travel works already breaks apart. 3) Silver future should not exist. There are 2 options: heroes win and Iblis is never freed OR heroes fail and Iblis gets released... followed by a merger with Mephiles. From what we have seen there is no timeline where Iblis is freed, while Mephiles is stuck somewhere. allowing Silver's future to come to pass. So here's how I think it works A. TIME RULES For me, time travel makes sense if we make 2 assumptions 1. Causal Loops are the law. (Not TIME LOOPS. That's Groundhog Day) Shadow releases Mephiles, which leads to him going back in time to seal him, which leads to releasing him later. Everything is predestined, set in stone, including time travel. You can go back but you'll only cause the event you're trying to prevent. 2. Mephiles knows this but also is the only person who can break this law. To be more specific, forming Solaris breaks this law. B, CAUSAL LOOP With that knowledge keep in mind that it's also possible to go back in time and change nothing. Sonic and Shadow have seen Iblis Future, went back to Present and then fail to stop it. Every other time travel to the past is loop. Shadow sealing Mephiles being the easiest one to understand. Sonic by the end of his story watches Egg Carrier fall and assumes Elise was inside, but get this: if that was the case we would see Iblis emerge. A second time traveling Sonic already saved Elise, but Sonic no. 1 doesn't know it, so he time travels, closing the Casual Loop. And Silver? He goes back in time to prevent the release of Iblis, but once he goes back to the future Iblis is still there. That's because Mephiles killed Sonic, so Silver changed nothing. C. MEPHILES Again, Mephiles knows how Casual Loop works, but not detailed events. He sent Silver hoping he will kill Sonic. He tried tricking Shadow into joining him, because that's exactly a thing that would turn humanity against Shadow. Mephiles assumes he's making another Casual Loop. Just because events are preordained to happen, it doesn't mean he can just sit and do nothing. People who read/watch Harry Potter should know the drill. And so Mephiles kills Sonic. He could just sit back, let the world burn and close the Casual Loop. Oooooor he can officially break the rules. Merge with Iblis, become Solaris, and time itself begins collapsing. (The only people alive just happened to be time travelers, but that's a separate theory.) And that's why Mephiles looses. Because he changed the rules. Elise and Sonic go back in time and finally manage to change the future. That was impossible before, but Solaris was in process of destroying time itself.
