Novak showed up to Federer’s retirement ceremony despite not being friends with him, then cried for Roger multiple times that night, then the next day of the Laver Cup Novak gave a beautiful speech in tribute to Roger. Roger then paid tribute to Novak in this video, dedicating a section of his documentary to Novak. Mutual respect. Something many of their fans could learn from…
Novak beat him on the court as well as in sportsmanship. Just cause he was kinda nice to him towards the end after years of one sided disrespect does not make him a saint all of a sudden.
@@tuolumne556 Yeah, Roger comes across as phoney to me. Whereas Nole divides opinion simply because he is a man of honesty and integrity. He tells you the truth in a direct manner. That unsettles some people.
Djokovic fan. Was pleasantly surprised by this nice mini tribute/honesty to djokovic. I always thought Djokovic would finish being better friends with nadal then with federer. Especially how icy their relationship for like 80% of their careers. But turns our Fed was the one with class, made no excuses as to why Djoker has all the records. Whilst Nadal is always making excuses.
Federer really changed himself post 2011 and 2012ish. Became a much better person overall while Nadal just exposed his true salty colors over the last 5 or so years as he's gotten older.
@@A_friendwithoutbenefits well yes after seeing the backlash to his open bitterness his pr team put out a better statement. Doesn't change what nadal showed himself to be before. Both in 2022 when he tried to get Novak banned to cheat himself to the all time GS lead, and after RG 2023 when he whined and gave excuses
Djokovic is viewed as the greatest technical athlete in history, but Federer has a natural backhand that he employed all of his life. "he wasnt technical enough". I actually enjoy Federer's one-handed backhand, but it has nothing to do with a perfect technical backhand. Like Peja Stojakovic's realese. It's the most ideal form you can achieve when shooting. Every coach teaches kids to practice it. But it is quite difficult to get there. Even some of history's finest were unable to succeed at it.
@@lartisan6274 He was naturally talented, had no competition prior to Nadal and Djokovic, and did not practice as hard as others. No coach in the world would teach a kid to learn one-handed backhands.
He is acknowledging that he doesn't have the fighting spirit Novak has. He said he tried to artificially create that "grit" later in his career but it didn't work because it just wasn't part of his core personality or "DNA". Basically Federer is saying he's not a fighter like Novak, and it might have something to do with differences in upbringing or culture.
I love Novak Djokovic! What a champion and what a trajectory of a career. Ambition coupled with hard work, discipline, perseverance. He is truly The GOAT 🐐
As a Djokovic fan I disagree. Nadal and Federer rivalry was heated until Djokovic came into the picture, it was only Novak’s ascension that let Nadal/Federer rivalry & relationship cool off and even become amicable.
Novak won 8 Grand Slams since 2021, after the Federer & Nadal era. Novak defeated the weakest era players like Tsitsipas, Nick, Matteo to win Grand Slams after FeDal era.
It’s a good point about weak eras and greatness. For darts fans (ultimately not in the athlete echelons of tennis) Phil Taylor absolutely blitzed players when he was the only one averaging 100 with 3 darts. Starting in the 2010s along come more and more players with the 3 darts 100 average levelling the playing field. Does that put into question Taylor’s greatness? For some it does then the same context needs to be applied to Djokovic if not and all that matters is the statistics then Djokovic’s stats will be the best (still not 100% convinced though).
Novak is 3-0 at wimbledon final agasint roger. and has a winning h2h against rafa and roger. He Beat roger and rafa on many occasions early and later on
I have been Nole fan since the first day I started watching tennis as a kid, and I did not like Federer back then, he was very arrogant. But last few years have really shown who Federer really is and he is showing class left and right redeeming himself for some moments where he lacked it. Tennis heavily misses Roger, it has never been the same.
@miroslavjanecek9993 Djokovic seems arrogant on court but he's definitely been the nicest off court for the last 15 years of the 3. Although Federer really changed himself and became quite humble compared to 2011 and prior.
