I’d like to imagine what Daniel says to Eli is something like: “I’m going to devour you, Eli. Soon… very soon.” This would match the end scene “I told you I would eat you!”

Yeah this movie really weeds out the people with the short attention span with that no dialog 7 minute opening. Classic movie.

He said "I will eat you." That is my guess. Because in the final scene he says, "I told you I would eat you".

RE the whiskey in the milk: as crazy as it sounds, that was a thing back in the day. Pretty common actually.

So amazing. Daniel is simultaneously confessing the truth, and also vowing vengeance on the false bastard forcing him to do it.

Good reaction. But glasses does my biggest pet peeve of watching movies with people. He asks questions about the plot that will be answered if you just keep watching.

I heard Liam nesome, and Leo DiCaprio said Lewis would every day he would act like Abraham Lincoln and it was so annoying to them lol

People still do that. A thimble of rum in a bottle. Or They put rum on the finger and rub it on a baby's gums when their teething. It obviously works but most people would be against it. Your not getting a baby wasted your calming the nerves. Most people would be completely fine giving their child otc pharmaceuticals or doctor prescribed.

7:16 - they did use to do that. My grandmother did that with me. Let’s just say the Baby Boomers didn’t want to continue the tradition lol my mom was mad when she found out.

Daniel Freaking Day Lewis. Nobody is capable of being so simultaneously so terrifying and hilarious as that dude. He's the absolute master of black comedy. That milkshake line is so fucking ridiculous. It takes an absolute master of the craft to make something like that actually work.

I’m thinking he had enough money and influence to cover up the murder or at least get away with it.

The thing he was mining for at the beginning isn't gold it's silver

Sorry one last comment, I promise 😂. The end of the film Eli’s “financial issues” aren’t stemming from the Great Depression (the stock market crash of 1929). Instead Eli’s referencing the post-World War I Depression of 1920, which was the most Deflationary year in US history and whose bank runs ended up almost destroying the whole economy. This would be the later reason for the suspension of Gold convertibility on demand at US banks, as the safeguards put in place in the 20s to prevent bank runs on dollars to convert into gold failed in 1929.
