Great job, Tommy! I enjoy all the series that you guys put together. Considering the limitations now because of the virus, you guys are putting your ingenuity to work and coming up with good ideas and fun videos for us to watch. Keep up the good work!
My brother bought one of those VW’s as a diesel to tow a trailer for his band stuff. Very fancy and he loves driving it. My dad was an old school VW mechanic back in the early 70s. They couldn’t figure out how to check the oil. I read the manual-you have to use the radio. Brilliant design there, VW.
I love the European vehicle content. It helps to shed some light on vehicles that are often misunderstood and under appreciated in the states. The Tough T is my favorite one in the fleet. Sorry to see the Porsche go.
Absolutely!!! Tough T takes on TransAm! I really enjoy the Tough T surprising people on what it can do off-road sleeper. Please please multi segment detailed TransAm adventure! (Expedition Overland really botched up their travel video with the not ready for primetime crew - sad)
Tommy, I am so glad to hear that you are keeping your w123 Mercedes. I enjoy seeing videos with it. I have a 1974 w115 240D that I am trying to get running correctly. I am in the process of rebuilding the fuel injectors since they weren't working at all. These old Mercedes Diesels are fantastic little cars when they're working, and you have a gem of a w123. I hope you have some more videos lined up with it.
I have a 2,5 diesel touareg and it has seen most of Europe, and the Carpathian Mountains many Times. Love the car, never gonna sell it. Im gonna be buried with it just like pharaos with their boats LOL.
I guess Roman has some money. Good to know and see that he is generous in sharing that in a way with us, and with his friends. Without you guys, I’d never get to “experience” most of these vehicles. So, Roman is a genuinely good guy, and the kind of guy you want to know.
NNNOOOO! It's an abomination, at least as far as the name goes. Since it's an SUV, they should have called it the Escape-E. ;) Or maybe the Adventure-E, or Soccer-Mom-E. :D
@@mellored They have deposits. They don't have full payment on the production. I think they would be an awesome EV, but I'm skeptical that they will ever exist outside of the few prototypes on RU-vid.
Great video Tommy!!! I really like the direction your channel has gone in the last year, I think you and your Dad really compliment each other, I’ll be here when you hit 1 million subs, thanks
I loved this video! Didn’t know you had so many in your fleet. I also never knew about your classics channel. You’ve got another sub over there Tommy. Best wishes to you and the TFL team, be safe.
I liked the TFL PRO Landcruiser the best Tommy I grew up driving a 1976 240D and a 1980 300TD wagon. I understand your love of the Mercedes diesels. Currently I drove a BMW 328d sedan
I wish the Disco3 would go too the TransAmerica adventure. I has RTT on it and plenty of space inside cabin too. (edit: hadn't watched to the part when he said, it will go too)
Neil Murphy Manual gearbox would be especially good in combination with the Subaru boxer diesel engines. Unfortunately Subaru does not offer its diesel engines here in the USA. The boxer diesel provides good torgue in the Crosstrek and Forester and gets good mileage, and you do not feel as slow as driving with the gas engine and the CVT.
I am a big fan of the tremor and also the Ranger. Love big trucks. But I would love if you would do a 4x4 mini truck video. Hyundai, Suzuki, Hijet etc.
5:13 one of two cars. If the rivan is available, the RT1 or RTS, or the new Mach-e. Just to see what it's like moving from Tesla to another electric "crossover" because that's what a lot of buyers will be considering. Basically you find out if it's worth it, so they don't have to if its not worth it.
As a former mechanic, that Mercedes-Benz 240D will bury everything else, and continue ticking on and on. It looks amazing! The same applies to the Samurai.
If you're looking to replace the X, the clear choice would be to bring in a Y. Tesla thinks that this is going to be their most popular vehicle by a wide margin so you should look at things like reliability and ownership.
Have you guys ever done a video on your personal cars? Also, it would be cool to see you guys rank each car in the fleet, and have everyone pick a favorite
The next car you should get and do reviews about is a Kei truck. Like a Subaru Sambar, Honda Acty, and Suzuki Carry. Because they are becoming popular in the USA and they are super awesome mini trucks and vans.
Makes me miss my 88 short box Comanche. Mine was a mostly stock 4 litre 5 spd. Red with grey buckets. And the Sportbar in the box. Absolute blast on road. Tire shredder. And a real goat off road. Liked to crawl around at about 400 rpm in low\ low with no throttle. Jeep shud still make engines like that.
Tesla rly needs to improve its fit and finish and overall quality. 7k miles and you already have things falling off and problems in the cv joints. Cmon Tesla
I have obd2 scanner for you tdi wagon and I absolutely love it. Mine it's from that company but I highly recommend everyone to buy one. They aren't super expensive and they will save you so much money. Plus some of them can add certain functions to your vehicle that are locked by the factory. Mine gave me the ability to add an option to my MFD to turn on/off the DRLs.
Tommy, amazing video of the TFL fleet, you truly did an incredible job here. Please, please, please keep the VW Touareg and LR3 in the fleet. I'm hoping to see more vids of your 1982 Mercedes Benz. Hopefully TFL can maybe bring in a MK4 or MK5 VW Jetta to the fleet to do cool projects on.
I would love to see more videos of the LR3 offroad. We have one that we absolutely love. It is our favorite road-trip car we have ever had but we haven't spent a lot of time offroad with it. For offroad I use my Hummer H3 which is fantastic. I would LOOOOOVE to see you get and H3 and do a series on it.
Fantastic fleet! My faves: #3 - LR3, always thought these were a maintenance nightmare but maybe not?. #2 - Gladiator, can’t wait to see all the mods. And #1 - Touareg, over engineered, over built and super capable. Thank you, Tommy!
Great update video. I sometimes think some cars may not be getting as many views because you guys have so many different channels, and sometimes one car will show up on a few different channels, but RU-vid wont always show everything to everybody, and not everybody is subscribed to every channel.
The Touareg won't start unless you have a better tender on it. There's a known issue with the kessey system draining the battery after a few days of sitting. And also some factory splices in the wire harness near the drivers kick panel that corrode and cause issues with charging. Also the cable from the alternator that runs behind the engine as well as the one under the drivers carpet they were bad and if they were never replaced, they will fail. I'd imagine yours were done. I'd really check all of your door lock and unlock buttons to see if the kessey has failed and look for the corroded splices near the drivers kick panel. I went through this last yr with mine, I disabled the kessey system and fixed the splices and it has been fine ever since.
Tommy, that 300D will wear very well on you as time goes by. It's already a good match, because it's so classy, rare and unconventional for a person your age to be seen driving. Great choice for now and in the long term. My compliments.
Either RU-vid is paying more or you guys are doing well at getting sponsors, because that’s an impressive fleet. To buy those vehicles, pay everyone, and support the other overhead, Roman must be pretty business savvy.
So when I was a kid slot cars were one of the better toys, especially when compared to a football field that vibrates causing the players to randomly move. The key to slot cars is you make it into a small figure 8 so you have a crash intersection. The goal is being last to intersection so you broadside your opponent and knock him off the track without doing it to yourself. I'm not worried about TFL credibility. While they appreciate older vehicles, we all they are new and electric car fanboys. Nothing wrong with that, we still get information and entertainment. If a manufacturer pays for airfare, hotels, or food, then you are being paid. Cash is not the only form of payment.
Just a suggestion when you sell a car to stop people asking you where they’ve gone you could do like a goodbye (insert sold car here) and a picture of it on one of those RU-vid post things. Or maybe even on a RU-vid story
@@stevencruz4937 I saw where someone else also asked about the whereabouts of "Gunsmoke" (the diesel F-250) & Tommy replied that "it's sleeping" during this COVID-19 stuff...so it & the I6 F-150 must both be in storage somewhere.
Tommy: "The only replacement for this would be an LR4" Me: "The dark side is calling you Tommy. A 6.5 diesel is in your future. Feel it course through your veins."
The LR4 is not an upgrade in many ways. Only in terms of appearance. Keep the LR3, the V8 is super smooth and if you you were lucky enough to get as problem free LR, count yourself lucky.
You'll have a blast doing the TAT. Did it last August with another 4Runner, really the only state that you'll want extra fuel in is Oregon, all the others have plenty of pit stops along the way.
Autotests sounds fun perfect car Tommy. Really really loved Gunsmoke. Can't wait for the Suzuki Samurai cos that wee rascal is going to kick Andre's butt in the Hummer. Enjoyed the fleet update Buddy the F250 overland trip is going to be gold.
Idea. For a potential future fleet 4wd vehicle, consider the Mitsubishi Montero/Pajero (full size, not the Sport). Most winning Dakar vehicle in history!!! I have a early 3rd Gen with the 3.5 and none of the electrical 4wd nannies, just locking center diff and rear limited slip diff. Rock and roll guys!
Good job TFL for keeping things interesting! Personally can't wait for more Touareg Tough-T, especially after you guys put some proper underbody protection on it. What an over-bashed yesteryear sleeper! (Let the flaming begin 😁) Keep the awesome videos coming guys! 👍
I noticed the frameless windows on the doors of the '78 Subaru. My '08 Legacy still has them. Interesting to see such a unique feature live on for so long. Having my rear doors opened with the windows already rolled down still looks freaky to me.
I would suggest buying an Audi E Tron. Especially since if you look on the used side of things, they are selling with 3000 miles with a price of about $56,000
Good video, Tommy. Nice run-down on each vehicle. I was just thinking though, what ever happened to your Wrangler? I have forgotten... You did a lot with that Jeep and really had it set up nicely. Still miss it?
I'd watch the Cayenne transrockies series if you guys actually showed us how good it is on some tough trails like you did the Touareg. Felt like you hadn't pushed the Cayenne too hard yet, might be why views aren't so high yet. Gotta make us think you might break it or not make it up one of those tough trails!
I'd love to own a Land Rover! Unfortunately, my budget would only handle a used one, and the common problems scare me away. I hope you guys keep us appraised of the ownership costs.
Assuming you have basic mechanical skills - ie you don't go to the dealer to check tire pressure or change oil, late model Rovers are really not all that scary. As noted, TFL has had very little issue with either of their Rovers (D2 and D3). Starting the the LR3/D3 in particular there is a major improvement in reliability. The best in the world? Probably not. But don't believe the rumors generated by some guy who's sister's friend's aunt's son once read on a forum 5 years ago... Find your local Rover club and if you need a mechanic find a good indy. If you want one - do it!
