People who says an G80 is soul-less most likely don't own one. Let me tell you what's soul-less, a Model 3 performance is soul-less to the point I sold mine.

it’s not that they’re entirely soulless. they are fun. i haven’t had an opportunity to drive the new g80 but i have driven and plan to buy an f80 as a daily driver and it is a lot more numb and lacks feel in comparison to my e46 m3 and other analog cars i’ve owned. you can’t duplicate the steering feel and connectivity with all the new assisted electronic everything. they are great and im grateful they still make M cars. but the newer cars will leave a little to be desired in comparison to the analog models.

That’s like saying herpes isn’t bad because aids exists. The g80 manual is absolutely a horrifically designed trans mission and shifter setup. Go drive an e46 or e90. The difference is night and day. It’s by far the worst manual ever in an M car. Even the Supra has a much much better setup

I have a 2022 G82 M4 manual. I've had manuals since 1969 when I bought a new Mercury Cougar with a 4-speed. I learned to drive a manual transmission back in 1963 on a friend's VW Beetle. If you car drive one of those, you can probably drive almost anything. My last car was a 2015 F82 M4. The G82 is MUCH better and easier to drive. My F82 had a tendency to surge on acceleration in 1st gear. I've had manuals ever for 53 years and never had this problem before. This was a problem on the DCT cars as well. I attribute that to the way that the torque came on in the S55 engine so fast, hitting peak torque at about 1800 rpm and the interaction with the traction control, The tires and chassis couldn't handle it very well. This is gone from G82. The S58 engine doesn't reach peak torque until about 2700 rpm. This as well as improvement to the chassis and tires make it a LOT easier to launch the G82. Another plus for a manual transmission. It has effectively become an anti-theft device. There have been many documented cases where carjackers and thieves have passed on or given up and moved on to another car when they discover the car has a manual transmission. Most of them can't drive a manual. I love my manual transmission M4. Save the manuals!!

Yeah I definitely want to own e92 M3, but I'm going to look into the DCT route. So the wifey could drive that one LOL but not my G80 haha. Definitely kids are in the future plan

Great video! Been looking for an e9x M3 as well. After driving the dct it was a little underwhelming but such a great package. It’d pair nicely with my manual mustang GT, but a manual M3 just sounds so fun.

Suggestion on your videos. Do your filming outside of your house. Nobody wants to see the interior of your home. The background with the vehicles or landscaping would be more enjoyable.

Wish they offered a DCT for the G80, the ZF 8 speed just doesn't feel engaging like the DCT. However atleast the manual is still an option.

A couple of things I was hoping to see in your video and that is rev matching on downshifts which is a huge asset with sticks because this is knowledge many would be manual enthusiasts would like to know as it may be a big assistance to them. My last M240i had it, was terrific however there is a "secret" to get the right code to override it.

I love a manual now I don’t know if I would get the G80 in a manual. Probably not if I keep my other cars because they are both manuals. But rear wheel drive is always a must and I’m in Georgia so no snow. I have only driven the G82 manual so I need to drive the auto first.

How much is too much power for a stock clutch? Not necessarily always pushing it to the limit and being aggressive, as you mentioned clutch will eventually get worn out if going through gears at an excessive rate.

How does tghe manual rwd do in rain. I already got my 2 seater so am now planning on replacing my macan with this ffor my "practical" daily driver. I drive a decent amount for work so need something i can whip around quickly in wet conditions and xx chf not worry about spinning at every turn. Id probably even consider all season tires if that is what is needed.

Surprisingly it's not bad, there's always that sense of fear that you may hydroplane because of what we see online. As long as you're not doing anything stupid at high rates of speed in the wet you should be fine. It really also depends on what tires you have. This car is very technologically advanced. The MDM mode allows the car to be controlled. I've heard of taking care of the clutch delay valve might make it smoother. Haven't really done that but my buddy with the f8x has done that so I might look into that later on

The CDV, in many new cars makes it hard to shift fast and smooth especially 1 to 2. Reason being you've let off the clutch and gone back into the gas, but the clutch is engaged for a tiny second bit longer and so it causes a jolt

Agree 💯 shifting is so smooth. My best part of the G80 is Rev. Matching.Down shifting and not miss a beat is an awesome feeling.I have been driving manual since the early 90's I learned how to drive in a 1989 Nissan Sentra

I own a manual G80 myself and all my cars have been manuals. The biggest downside is probably the higher ⛽️ consumption compared to the Comp model.

I was blessed to learn how to drive manual on an m2c and I never want an automatic bmw again. I know they make good auto’s on the newer cars, but as long as manual is alive I’d take it

I love the manual but 1st to 2nd shift under full power isn’t great. It’s super lurchy and difficult to do smoothly. Luckily there is more than enough power to make first unnecessary.

3000 and automatic will be more efficient on fuel. If one is spending this much $ then which transmission is efficient is irrelevant. Its about engagement and if you are really up for having fun with the manual transmission

I drive a ‘21 G80 M3 Base. Is it me or does the revs take too long to drop between shifts? Rumors has it that rev hang is non existent when you turn off gear shift assistant. I drive my brother’s GT350 and the tremec transmission is just smooth. Not just that, but the revs just instantly drop and shifting 1-2 is smooth compared to the G8X base platform. Also, have you done a CDV delete yet?

That’s exactly what gear shift assistant does. It holds the revs at the proper speed for the next gear for a bit. Turn it off, and revs fall like normal.

Had that tremec 6060 in my Hellcat and blackwing ,american cars have much smoother transmissions I have a m3 manual and it feels rubbery .. sad but true american cars just have better manual transmissions I thought it be the opposite.

can you comment on highway MPG, or atleast where the revs are in top gear at say 80 mph? i ordered an auto because i was concerned about the 6mt mileage on the highway but still have a month left before i have to choose for certain

A friend of mine has the xDrive variant and gets about 7-8 liters per 100 km on the highway whereas for me it’s around 10 liters in my manual. So there’s definitely a difference

Yeah you probably won't get as much gas mileage with the manual because you lock the two other gears that the automatic has. The difference isn't too much where it makes a drastic difference. Just remember you're paying a lot for a car, might as well enjoy it the way you want

I get 28 mpg highway when driving conservatively, 70 mph on cruise control. Mixed city/highway with occasional spirited driving gets me 23.5 mpg.

Automatics and cars in general are so fast compared to manuals...I have an e92 328i 6 speed and I always have someone up my ass in between my 1-2 shift...its so annoying and gives me anxiety

I miss the manual on my m2 cs - if the competition x drive came with a manual option it’s a no brainer for sure. My all time favorite manual gearbox is the s2000 so in comparison the bmw manuals are kinda clunky. I will say that driving through the mountains or even the track with paddles helps you push the car more in the corners versus having to take your hand off the wheel to shift gears. Pros and cons different strokes and all that. I’m with you on an e92 v8 manual or maybe even the lci m2 or that cs variant- that car has also been growing on me

30 hp isn’t much at that weight. 60-70 ft lb torque as you mentioned is a big difference. The big thing working against the manual is WHAT automatic is in the auto, which is the legendary ZF8HP. It’s arguably the greatest automatic transmission of all time at this point when you combine performance, durability, efficiency, versatility. BMW was extremely smart to throw that in. It took BMW’s power train reliability to another level the last couple gens. 10-12 years ago I would never dare own a BMW even when it’s in the budget. Now, I would without question. The N motor helped with that too.

The G80 M3 checks all the boxes for me. I like having the four doors instead of being limited just two doors. That's just my personal preference. I'm always going to choose a manual when I have the opportunity to spec out my car. But if I never do get a e9x it'll probably be DCT so the wife can drive it

Intake and exhaust don't make 30HP. Sorry. The Comp has more TQ which is why it has more HP.

Actually there's numbers to back this up. Good example is PSI's midpipe dyno show it was a 14 hp gain with just a midpipe. The Eventuri Carbon intake is a massive increase over the stock airbox. With the turbo inlet area increasing 160% and the filtration area increasing 40%, the sheer amount of air entering the S58 is unmatched. This will leave you with a 13-18hp and 12-16 ft-lb increase with the STOCK TUNE

@@TheDailyDriven hey, I was referring to something else. The bushings on all manual bmw are soft. Short shifter kit upgrades that. And then it feels like a Porsche gearbox. Simple upgrade, big returns. Have you observed missing gears when punching it?
