I have some recommendations for the mods! Mostly for the exhaust My personal favourite is the R44 Performance exhaust, and then the Valvetronic full titanium exhaust, AWE is pretty good too The Valvetronic sounds like a Nissan 370Z and R35, sounds amazing The R44 Performance exhaust retains the original exhaust note of the engine but enhancing it and has a lot of burbles when you let off the Throttle, no unnecessary pops and bangs in either of them. I would highly recommend you check them out. and another small side note if you're interested in an intake, I would say go for the Eventuri intake if it's available in USA.
Great review! An American in a European touring sports car with a manual is always worth watching ;-) I'd like to hear your comments on the braking performance on those nice roads.
I went with an Active Autowerke Single Midpipe. About 1500 bucks shipped. No drone or rasp, fits perfect, it's got enough volume to make the car more fun to drive, but it's not loud enough to be obnoxious. With the valves closed it's still virtually silent like OEM, so perfect for hauling kids and family.
I just got my allocation. Last week, I almost bit on a 2023 sitting on the lot. They tried to get me for 7500 over. I walked out. Got a phone call two days later. Lol. I just let it sit. Then got my allocation. I went to put in the order and they tried to put 5k on that and I was on my way out the door and they conceded.
I’m about to cross 40k on mine. We share many of the same sentiments regarding these cars and the current state of M division. And I couldn’t agree more about this being a great daily driver. Sidenote… my first BMW/M was a 97 M3 in Boston Green. I’m interested to hear your thoughts as your ownership progresses and look forward to your other vids. As for mods, I highly recommend mid pipe(s) from PSI or Active Autowerks, deletion of secondary cats (they don’t have sensors like the primaries) and keeping the stock muffler. Add a Dahler flap mod for full control and you’ll get factory quiet when closed, but a deep and pronounced sound when opened. I’m going to add a Racechip to mine at some point, but I’ve heard good things concerning JB4, BootMod, and Carbone. Hope this helps.
that's awesome you're putting mileage on it. I've actually sold it recently to for something more vintage. will post a vid on it soon. the g80 however is an amazing performance car and daily. however, it's not the first car I would choose for a saturday morning canyon run...
Having had both tyres on my g82 I think you will find the front end turn in and feel is much better with the Pirelli’s than the PS4 but traction and grip is better with the Michelins
insightful videos as always! i’m located in norcal, and been on the hunt for a g80 as well, so glad to see the markets starting to cool. in terms of exhausts, i’ve heard great things about the AWE switchpath, but is pretty quiet since it keeps the secondary cats, and the Active Autowerke single midpipe sounds great in videos as well. as for tuning, carbahn is local to me and are stand up guys, but don’t get much notoriety on youtube since they like to edge on the safer side for a tune. brought my c63s in for some service work a couple weeks ago and they let me listen to their prototype catback as well. can send a video of it it to you if you’re interested in that as well haha also curious on your thoughts between g82 and g80? g82’s been growing on me but i do have to say the doors and hood seem very long and i’ve only owned sedans. thanks!
The AWE, Active Autowerke are contenders for me. I'm debating the Carbahn, Dinan, and JB4 as well but obviously Steve Dinan is behind Carbahn so that is intriguing. G80 all day over the G82 for practicality and IMO aesthetics. I think the 4 door looks better. The rear quarter panel on the G82 is so large your eyes just get lost on that panel. The G80 rear quarter panel looks more taut and the rear fender looks more pronounced IMO.
@@caradd2967 It’s nice that Carbahn also offers warranty and still have a dedicated shop, but i’m sure there are minimal differences for a simple piggyback. And thanks for the insight on the differences between the G82 and G80. From the dealerships i’ve talked to (all over CA) it seems like they’re far more lenient on no markups for G82’s. Hopefully i can find a G80 in the right spec at MSRP though
As a G80 M3 Base owner, I prefer the looks of it over the G82. I think the best perks of the M3 are the flared quarter panels and having 4 doors. I’m looking to get the Active Autowerke single midpipe too. Sounds amazing
Lol. I hear you about m cars but because I’ll have one car, I want all the bells and whistles and the power. You can’t get that basically in any other car in manual. I just got my allocation and submitted my order. Can’t wait.
Hey question - do you use shift assist? I'm having an issue with shift assist whereby if I downshift through 2 gears too quickly, the rev matching won't work on the second downshift. Not sure if it's just my car or "by design".
Hey I might be a little late to give my opinion on a tune for your m3 but I currently have a manual M2c with a stage 1 Carbahn tune and it is fantastic!! Big difference and fills those gaps of lag while giving it safe power and it’s very noticeable! I’m waiting for a manual g80 m3 and I’ll definitely be getting another Carbahn tune. Possibly even stage 2. Let me know what you end up getting.
Just got my G80 a few weeks ago. Agree with everything you said. Do you find the 1-2 shift a bit jarring? Still not super smooth with this. Was smoother in my s2000.
Honestly i'll never understand why people daily these cars. You definitely and certainly can. i've always had my M's as weekend cars. Truck for daily, M3 for fast practical fun on the weekends.
Nice concise review. I have a 22 M3 and was also considering some exhaust mods. Will continue to stay tuned for that review. Love the old school manual and you are right- not like a 911- but there is a lot to like in this car
Loved the 911, but it was a little too “precious” for daily use and lots of miles (to me at least). I had an M3 in 2003 that I put 50k miles on and thought it was the best all-around car I’ve owned, so got another one. It really does it all and I’m not worried about leaving it in a parking lot.
So far 1 week with my 2023 M3 manual the two biggest complaints are the shifter feel i just do not like it compared to all my other sports cars. The steering is very hard to get use to because the wheel does not return back to center like most cars and this annoys me have you noticed that? I will be posting an update video later this week on my channel and i will try to show this on the highway how the steering wheel sorta gets stuck and doesn’t return back to center.
@@mattyoz0 the M3 manual is garbage compared to other manuals specially at its price, very rubbery and does not have that feel and connection that others have. Even cheaper sports cars like the Civic Type R has a superior shifter.
@@cryptoronindude You can't shift for shit. Me and lots of others have no problem slamming gears in a BMW. So much so i have a M2 manual on order. Like i said to the other guy, go buy an auto.
@@caradd2967 They're catering to multiple markets via options that you don't NEED to choose but you did anyways. You're upset that they want their sport car to also be comfortable in 2023.. hmm. Sounds like you should buy classic. Or maybe a Quadrafolglio.
I would look into the autosolutions ssk. I have it in my M3 and the throws and shift feel are greatly improved. I find myself downshifting and upshifting unnecessarily sometimes that's how good it is.
@@reginald8703 yeah, it gives it a more mechanical feel. You can reduce the shift throw by how much you choose, it's completely customizable. I would look at reviews in the bimmerpost forums to get a better idea.
@@JAMA1998 very interesting. thanks! Also do you have any sort of modifications to the clutch pedal? I know the clutch pedal is fairly light but have you considered upgrading it? Perhaps making it stiffer?
Do you rev-match manually on downshifts ? If so, does this new, small, digital rev-meter make it harder to figure out where to "land" the revs ? (because it is not only small, but shows the revs in increments of 1000rpm as opposed to old analog rev-meter which showed 500rpm increments).
NGL, I like the auto rev match feature. Been using it a lot. In terms of the digital gauges I don't like them but I don't think they limit your ability rev match on your own.
Your car looks fantastic! What brand / % tint did you go with? Anything on the windshield too tint wise? Great content, I’m waiting on my Isle of Man g80 order to arrive.
I bought a CT4 Blackwing and I find myself looking at these a lot on RU-vid. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love my Blackwing but the tuning potential of these is unreal. I would still love to drive a G80. I'd love to hear your thoughts.
Appreciate your videos. What are your thoughts on iDrive 7 vs iDrive 8? My dilemma is I'm in the market for the M4 and 2023 M4s are still being built with iDrive 7. While I prefer the aesthetic of iDrive 7 (integrated into the cockpit cleaner) compared to iDrive 8, I am concerned about purchasing a car equipped with the outgoing version of iDrive. Do you have any opinions? Is it worth waiting for the M4 to get iDrive 8 in MY2024 or is iDrive 7 sufficient?
If you’re set on an M4 I’d wait. I wouldn’t feel good with my less than a year old car already feeling technologically dated but that’s personal preference.
@@user-wp6ex3qt1m Thanks very much for the reply and your opinion. I am going to wait for 2024, it does seem silly to buy a new car with the old infotainment/instrumentation system.
Jb4 is the way to go, had it in my Supra and it worked like a dream. Do a resonator delate and a downpipe, see what you think about it, exactly what I did with my Supra and it sounded really good afterwards. Few months later got a $3500 Boostlogic exhaust and tbh the $200 resonator delete sounded better and didn’t rattle like the exhaust system did👍🏼 Can’t wait for my G80 any longer, currently sitting at port in Germany
Supra & M3 have 2 completely different exhaust systems/engines, what sounds good on one won’t always sound good on the other. For these G80s you really have to go single mid pipe, whether it’s Valvetronic, AA, etc. in the same way F80s need equal length Midpipe to sound adequate.
I’m a ‘21 G80 six speed owner. A midpipe would definitely improve the sound. I’m looking to get an AA single midpipe non resonated. Also you should get the G80. It feels bigger and it is very heavy but it makes you feel like you own the road
@@caradd2967 woah two months later. I have the vsc-2 valve controller installed. It opened the valves 100%. I also recently purchased a resonator bypass 3” mid pipe for the car because I want to retain the oem exhaust note.
G80 M3 is one heavy car. But it’s also the fastest. I own a G80 manual and it’s good for daily commuting. I carry things with me and haul plenty. Being that the G80 M3 (base or comp) is a good daily car, I highly suggest you get the G80. If you’re not going to bring passengers or a lot of things in the trunk, maybe the E46 M3 is for you. But in the end, it’s all preference.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts but there is something I don’t understand - what’s the issue with having more equipment/luxury features? Why should a sports car/sporty car be poorly spec’ed? I understand some of the visual disadvantages like the digital cluster, electronic handbrake, single piston rear calliper, but why would you possibly not want a power trunk or say it’s not “M” to have one? Creature comfort doesn’t deter from the performance that this car offers. Otherwise we might as well have no power windows, no heated seats or steering wheel, no A/C..
I said the exact same thing. Additionally, I'm almost positive it doesn't come standard. The trunk is part of a package upgrade. If you don't want it, don't get it... Lol
I went to test drove M2 Competition MT, M3 MT. I didn't like numb steering and rubbery shifting on these cars. So, I purchased Shelby GT350 which check all boxes that I was remember from M3 E92, very similar two cars GT350 is being little more fun to drive and better perform around the corners.
@@wesleywalls7582GM quality is bad. This woman has an ‘22 Escalade that had water leaking through the roof recess lights. My dad had a Silverado recall when I was a kid, turns out it the transmission was faulty, hence why he got an F250 and an SR5 Sequoia
Good vid. However, I am confused by a few of your statements. You mention the purity of the car and talk about some of the convenience features of the car... but the auto trunk, your HUD, and the cooled seats are optional. So unless you bought a dealer ordered car, you picked that yourself. So the state of "M"? Kinda of harsh for your own decisions.
I bought this off the lot, didn't spec it. the fact these are options on "M" cars still speaks to the fact these are just fast luxury cars and not real motorsport cars. hope you arent confused anymore, these arent the Ms of the past.
@@smoovepl Was this for an M3? I'm in N. CA and would consider buying from a dealer in Escondido if they are willing to sell new $500 below MSRP. I can fly there on free miles and just drive it home.
"Many videos to come" Two months later: "I sold it" Curious what you think of the 4runner over this? I'm in a 2021 tacoma pro i purchased new, i wish i could buy the m3 and keep the taco but no bueno. At a crossroads of decisions and know the smart decision would be to do nothing and keep driving a slow oil change only truck.
I still don't get the logic of putting a manual tranny in a GT car. I mean they are pretty large and heavy now. Wouldn't that be a better choice in the M2?
Quick summary - M cars aren't true sports cars (not news), so either you can afford a GT3 or get a Camaro ZL1 (or Z06 when it becomes more widely available)
I suppose I'd define a true sports car as some minimum roadcourse track time. Compare the ZL1 1LE to M cars in C&D Lightning Lap Every Car. It's not even close
@gaara4667 "livable" is subjective, Camaro interior - while hardly luxurious - is perfectly livable and comfortable. Heated and cooled seats, heated steering etc
Coming from a tremec 6060 both on my Srt Challenger and Ct4 blackwing the manual transmission bmw makes is horrible..rubbery, boring and now im having to spend even more money to change out the shifter + CVD just to try and make feel closer to what a real manual should feel like, sad af Bmw..
So after getting my car, I can’t disagree more. I’d never want a smaller screen. It’s such a game changer. Everything is laid out in front of you, maps look so much better.
Most kids back in my days wanted an M3 or Porsche when growing up. Now, I can’t imagine having this m3 in my garage being so heavy and hideous looking. Btw, M stands for Marketing.
