Happy New Year everyone! Thanks again for all of the support in 2023 - I hope everyone's had a great year, and I'm excited to see what's in store for Bleach in 2024. Let me know your favourite characters down in the comments!
“just hit 10,000 subscribers, about 3 years ago“ that one made me think about how you were the single person who that long ago got me into my crazy manga love! Thanks Mr.Tommo!!
Loved the content this year. Was wondering if you ever considered making a Top 10 VA list for Bleach (Jap or En)? I know you're more of a manga guy but it would be interesting to hear your opinion on the voiceover work done in Bleach.
The fact that so many villains made it onto this list shows how impactful Kubo’s bad guys are. Who is Optimus Prime without Megatron? Who is Goku without Frieza? And who is Ichigo without Kon?
Shunsui's strength lies in his practical reasoning and willingness to do anything to win. He knows honor is not the call in war. On the other hand he has become a force for true change for the very first time in Soul Society's history, recognizing that the old ways are no longer viable. His cooperative and approachable demeanor also helps.
More than that too, due to his attitude of war he much more prefers peace, joy, alcohol, and rest. Yet, when push comes to shove, he sees the necessity to be ruthless. This is my favorite part of him, this interesting dichotomy.
@@fenrirsilver6441 True that. He's lethal and will get ugly in war but off he will happily share a drink with a human. Him meeting with Ichigo's human friends shows us where he's at, no other Shinigami of his status would do that for both safety and just petty pride.
@@fenrirsilver6441 Yes, he's endured and seen enough in his long lifetime to both be effective in war but also loathe it. His ruthlessness is a product of those struggles yet it hasn't totally taken him. This was best seen when he prevented Nanao from finishing Chad, it can be chalked up to wanting Chad questioned but his frantic insistence that she stop indicated he doesn't want her hands stained red.
Maybe it’s just me but I’ll never understand the love for Askin. He just seems like such a whatever character to me. Interesting but not top 10 interesting
*My personal Top Ten as of Right Now:* *1.* Mayuri *2.* Shunsui *3.* Urahara *4.* Shinji *5.* Gin *6.* Rukia *7.* Aizen *8.* Grimmjow *9.* Askin *10.* Ikkaku _15 Honorable Mentions (not really in any order) to Round Out a Top 25:_ Zaraki, Bazz-B, Ulquiorra, Hisagi, Tsukishima, Yoruichi, Tosen, Yhwach, Senjumaru, Isshin, Ryuken, Izuru, Yamamoto, Orihime, Byakuya.
@@travisluvrukia Yeah, Ichigo should have been in my honorable mentions. Not sure how I missed him lol. @tekenadave4270 That one is intentional. Hitsugaya is one of my least favorite major characters.
My favourite Character is probably a cop out but its ichigo hes journey is so compelling and seeing him change in both power and maturity is very satisfying.
He is my favourite too , he feels like something that i needed but i didnt know i wanted it, his character journey , his design , his symbolism of rain are compelling to me , i was just waiting for him to show up in this list
Aizen is also my top 1 as well as my very first anime villain favorite (with Madara coming in second). The one thing about Aizen that sets him apart from the typical villain is his mysterious, almost mythical nature. Normally we'd get the villain's flashback, but with Aizen we don't even know where he came from. A godlike being that seemingly came into the world out of nowhere. And his power to this day rivals even newer characters that came after him, unlike other major villains that gets overshadowed by new ones. And lastly is his motivations. A classic, very powerful villain would always be about world domination or world destruction but with Aizen he's neither. He's so far above everyone else that he believes he's meant to be a God that will make a better world. All that and then you add his personalities (manipulative, sadistic, has dark humor, provocative etc) as cherry on top and you got the most iconic and greatest villain in anime of all time. Plus he's a meme-able character. 😂
As a villain Aizen is diabolical, OP in the best way, and still one of the biggest trash talkers I’ve seen. But what I love is also how he has this depth to him that you really have to dig for. Ichigo wondering if he wanted to loose never felt like Kubo trying to get pity points for the villain. But instead showing a side we may never see again. I both love and hate how he has no back story. He never will have one but I do wish we could get glimpses of who he is as a person. Regardless, he’s a legendary character in all of anime for a reason
People are underestimating kubo's writing of a backstory, if aizen does get a backstory, it won't ruin his character, especially since kubo mentioned that he prefers consistent evil villains, I bet if aizen gets a backstory, it won't be sad, young aizen was most likely evil from the jump, which makes him even better in my opinion 😂😂
this right here, if aizen does get a backstory in the anime as extra content or even in the hell arc, i am just hoping kubo keeps it consistent, giving aizen a sad backstory would ruin his character, but giving him a backstory that is consistent with the way he is now basically pure evil, would make aizen even more goated than he already is
Mayuri is my favorite. He embodies so much of what I love about the series. A great design, fantastic fights, fun and witty dialouge, dark humor, fascinating themes, moral ambiguity and a very interesting philosophy that you can reflect on. Of course I love others like Aizen, Askin, Ulqiorra, Grimmjow, Bazz-B, Yhwach, Kenpachi, Gin, Sajin, Tsukishima, Rukia and Ichigo is a wonderful main protagonist.
Hard to pick not many characters I dislike but mine are: 1) Shunsui 2) Ulquiorra 3) Hitsugaya 4) Yoruichi 5) Byakuya 6) Urahara 7) Senjumaru Honorable mention: Atau Rindō: I feel like he’s going to become a fan favorite. Cool design and concept.
Great list! My personal choices are: 1. Starrk/Lilynette 2. Urahara 3. Aizen 4. Askin 5. Unohana 6. Hisagi (despite how Kubo trashed him in the Quincy arc) 7. Gin 8. Kenpachi 9. Senjumaru 10. Yoruichi Honorable mentions would be Tousen, Barragan, Rukia, Ichigo and Ishida.
Senjumaru skyrocketed her way into my top ten with all of the new anime-exclusive content. In terms of pure aesthetics, I think she is the best designed character in Bleach by a country mile-which is fitting for a seamstress.
I totally agree. She is my top 1. For those of us who read the manga and seeing the anime and the changes they made, her revealing her bankai it was a jaw dropping moment
Great list! Glad to see Rukia climbing the ranks! It's a bit odd Ichigo didn't make it on here, guessing it's fatigue since he's the one most on screen that we know most about? When it comes to Aizen, i would very much like a backstory. Feels like i don't get where his motivation comes from or what exactly it is he wants to change about the system or why. While he is cool and does move the plot, i just don't resonate with his character. There's too much we don't know about him imo. Anyway, this is my top 10: 10. Aizen 9. Grimmjow 8. Kenpachi 7. Renji 6. Byakuya 5. Ulquiorra 4. Mayuri 3. Rukia 2. Ichigo 1. Kisuke Honerable mentions: Uryu, Toshiro, Komamura,
My top 10 would be following: 1. Grimmjow 2. Yoruichi 3. Ichigo 4. Hitsugaya 5. Ulquiorra 6. Halibel 7. Aizen 8. Urahara 9. Bambietta 10. Kenpachi. But damm is rhe cast of Bleach awesome.
As of right now my top 10 favourite Bleach characters (and honourable mentions) would have to be: 13. Lisa Yadōmaru 12. Shinji Hirako 11. Candice Catnipp 10. Senjumaru Shutara 9. Isane Kotetsu 8. Askin Nakk Le Vaar 7. Kisuke Urahara 6. Gin Ichimaru 5. Izuru Kira 4. Retsu Unohana 3. Coyote Starrk 2. Shunsui Kyōraku 1. Suì-Fēng
My top 10 with reasons are 1. Gin Ichimaru: As a kid my dad put on Bleach (it's his and my favorite anime) and I remember watching the soul society arc, now what's fun about this is that I thought that Gin had a kitsune mask originally, and every time I remembered him I thought that when he smiled he had the mask off as like a sinister pot point. I also love the plot around trying to kill Aizen for the Hogyoku, and how he literally did more than a lot of characters. 2. Aizen: I feel like he belongs on everybody's list because he was wrote so well as an antagonist, and who doesn't love a villain that can alter a person's sight? 3. Starkk: I love Starkk as a character. He's the best Espada in my opinion. His solitude making him split to create Lillinette as well is just perfect. It sucks that he got killed by Shunsui just because he "had to", even though Shunsui is literally the most peaceful guy. Like with Chad. 4. Byakuya: He is an amazing character. He gives off the sense of I do what I must to protect the people I love, like Gin and that just makes me love him. The first time I saw him was watching with my dad as well. I thought he was so cool when he just "one shot" Ichigo as a kid. 5. Bazz-B: The whole plot line with Jugram where they grew up together and then got split apart. Only for Jugram to end up being the one to kill him in the end. Was one of the best and most heartbreaking stories for me. 6. Tokinada: He is a truly terrifying villain, having created Hikori (I may have forgot her name) so he could become the ruler, and he capped of the four clans we heard about. 7. Mayuri: A man who I originally hated to my core, but he grew on me so much as I watched the series. He was very difficult to rank, I originally had him before Aizen, but then I thought more about how I feel about the character more personally and I connect with Starkk more. Mayuri still is one of the cruelest characters in Bleach, who I just love. 8. Candice: Smash. 9. Izuru: Just one of the most depressed and sad characters. He lost Gin who he was close to. I remember the scene where he and Rangiku went out to drink after Gin left. His return is one of the coolest things. He fought the chicken version of Lille Barro, who is one of my least favorite characters. 10. BG9: A cold and calculated robot, who we never got to see the full potential of. He was a character that just looked and acted so cool. He deserved a spot on this list. Also he fought Soi Fon so even better. Honorable Mentions: Shunsui, Yukio, Kisuke.
Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez Shuhei Hisagi Shunsui Kyōraku Coyote Starrk Chad Ikaku Madarame Yoruichi Shihouin Kensei Muguruma Sosuke Aizen Nelliel Tu Odelschwanck I could easily replace some of these characters with Ginjo, Kaname, Barragan, Gin, Askin, Bazz-B, or Urahara. Which is a real credit to Kubo for creating so many amazing characters.
1. Yamamoto; who else could it be other than Mr. #1. I love sage characters and there is no greater character of this trope than he. 2. Kyoraku. The sunflower samurai; shrewd and every bit as elusive as the namesake. Dope look at what is basically the only guy who embodies an oldschool samurai, inwardly and outwardly. 3. Barragan. Same as Yama, but with the added benefit of having perhaps my all time favorite power: time control. 4-5. Kurotsuchi and Zaraki. Hard to choose between the two. Great designs, great character development flaws and all. Both stars and like Tommo said both could have been war potentials. 6. Komamura. Yamamoto lite - in mindset, not power, obviously. Great design, number, backstory, zanpakuto, all of it. Shame he is, indeed an absolute joke in this series. 7. Soifon. Again, like Komamura she's reminiscent of Yama in mindset. Great design, one of my absolute favorites. She's adorable and likely a closet tsundere, which adds to her appeal. 9. Ichibei. Yamamoto's uncle. Not at all reminiscent of Yama in mindset, but does have much of the same sagey goodness and even more (!) OP. 10. Aizen. Captain Aizen that is. He was nice AF. When he disintegrated that huge hollow with Ichimaru as his lieutenant back in the day...yeah I knew he was him. For the most part, 1-5 are set for me. The rest is debatable as far as position, but not composition. I never found any of the quincies interesting, other than maybe a true one like Ryuuken. Same with the Fullbring whom I feel were the least interesting group concept since the Bounts despite or (in spite of) being canon.
for me here are my top ten 10: Aizen 9: Hashwalth 8: Rukia 7: As Nodt 6: Nel 5: Askin 4: Yourichi 3: Uyru 2: Uharara 1: Shunsui Honorable mentions are in no particular order: Senjumaru, Yuyu Yayahara, Starkk, hallibell, Komomoro
My top 10 as it stands rn are: 1. A tie between Yamamoto and Bambietta 3. Yhwach 4. Ichibei 5. Shunsui 6. Starrk 7. Harribel. 8. Neliel. 9. Yoruichi 10. Kisuke
I was amazed to see so many of my favourites not on the list #1 Mayuri #2 Ichigo #3 Szayelaporro #4 Kenpachi Zaraki #5 Giselle #6 Aizen #7 Riruka #8 Toshiro #9 Shunsui #10 Byakuya
I really love all of them, I think if I had to make a list right now it would be something like this 1. Aizen 2. As Nodt 3. Senjumaru (The anime has done so much for her) 4. Ulqiourra 5. Urahara 6. Byakuya 7. Shunsui 8. Yhwach 9. Tsukishima 10. Uryu (The anime has expanded on his role so much) Even this list is very questionable to me
My top ten right now (or even forever?) 10. Kisuke urahara 9. Yamamoto 8. Askin nakk le vaar 7. Oh-etsu neimaya 6. Hitsugaya toshiro 5. Retsu unohana (yachiro) 4. Shunsui kyoraku 3. Yhwach 2. Byakuya kuchiki 1. And for sure, the best of the best... The best waifu in bleach and overall... The most underrated woman... it's the exploding queen... Bambietta basterbine! Honorable mention 1. Don kanonji, 2. Ās nōdt, 3. Jugram haschwalth, 3. Grimmjoe, 4. Shuhei hisagi, 5. Coyote stark And that's it🌚
Aizen made Bleach what it is. Hands down the best villain in shonen although I love Madara and his philosophy and have a bias for it, Aizen is just... Aizen.
Love all the bleach content. Love your channel, bud. My favorites have always been Uryu Ishida, Shinji Hirako, Hisagi and Gin. I also have a soft spot for those losers the Fullbring!
I also find it interesting that in the postwar era, Kisuke has contributed to Soul Society's gradual change by having his tech become available as purchasable products including radio and TV. The spread of information certainly has contributed, and all of this coming from someone who once literally killed to keep a stagnant status quo intact while his inventions only benefited a few.
I dont know why but ichigo doesnt seem to be appealing and interseting characters to most , i'll admit that in front of charactes like aizen, ulquiorra, urahara he feels more grounded but thats what i like about him and also he has something different to offer than others character, his self acceptance journey, design and prolly relativity makes him my favourite
0. Nnoitra (can't lie about me just loving stubborn scumbags like him) 1. Chad (do I really need to say anything?) 2. Kon (it's really a shame that the fact of what a good person he is gets overshadowed by gags even in the manga itself) 3. Szayelaporro 4. Gin 5. Grimmjow 6. Tosen 7. Unohana 8. Keigo (another underrated good guy) 9. Inoue Sora (Orihime's brother) 10. Edrad Lioness (Grimmjow Fraccion who fought Bankai Ikkaku) Honorable mentions: Mayuri, Tsukishima, Don Kanonji(him appearing to fight Aizen was the single most emotional moment for me. Seeing an underdog like him at such a late state of the story... I couldn't hold my tears), Quilge Opie, Liltotto, Lilynette, Wonderweiss
My "Top of the top"-list has little more than ten characters in no particular order yet so I'm just gonna list ten from there. Ichigo Yhwach Aizen Gin Tokinada Hisagi Uryu Ulquiorra Askin Stark
There is a vast amount of characters that I like that its always been hard to fit many in just a few spots. 10. Uryu 9. Urahara 8. Zangetsu/White 7. Harribel 6. Byakuya 5. Sung Sun 4. Ulquiorra 3. Barragan 2. Ichigo 1. Aizen Honorable mention to Commander Yamamoto for being the most badass old man.
In general my top 5 list is 5: Ichigo 4: Ichibei 3: Mayuri 2:Aizen 1:Urahara For this year in particular, mostly in terms of increased popularity, It's the Zero Squad the changes in their clash with Yhwach, especially Senjumaru and her bankai
Rukia will always be one of my favorite characters, but I do wish Kubo stuck with her TYBW design (the short hair and Ōken Clothing). The earmuffs and visor aren't practical, but it looks amazing on her and really elevates her character design.
