EPISODE 166
In this episode I finally get around to finishing the Teak companionway ladder that is the main entrance to the boat. Underneath it is a critical electrical distribution locker that contains a lot of technology that mustn’t get wet, so I have to design and make some watertight locker-lids!
Meanwhile, Bob does some beautiful work fabricating some custom bronze vents for the lazaretto and installing an elegant fairlead through the bulwarks. Oh - and the Duchess has a baby!

I would argue that the current position and team not only reflect Leo's original vision, but meet, comply with and exceed that vision. The project carries the original concept of restoring, rebuilding and resurrecting the Strange yacht, as Strange designed it, but updated to the point of practicality. The over-riding constant, though, is craftmanship...
@cb88888
@cb88888 7 месяцев назад
I cannot imagine anyone who has watched Leo's earliest videos would share your view about the current boat reflecting Leo's original vision. I would enjoy having Leo comment but I am quite sure he expected to take on this project out of love with the intention of doing the as much work on his own to practically restore TallyHo. The funds which Leo has been able to raise and the continuing support he has received from the viewership I am quite sure have wildly exceeded his original expectations (as well as mine), all well deserved and earned!

A friend once asked me what was the difference between other RU-vid boatbuilders and Leo? and why should they watch Leo? I told him that most boatbuilders build to about an 8 - 9 out of 10 in terms of quality and craftsmanship. I said Leo builds to a 12. The artistry, craftmanship, and total respect for wooden boatbuilding is nothing short of perfection. Someday this "build" will end, and that will be a sad day.

If all the historical owners of Tally Ho could see what Leo is building here, they'd be totally blown away. It's the same boat but updated to the 21st century. Luxury has been replaced with perfectionism in terms of usability and craftsmanship. Probably only a master boat builder AND accomplished sailor could pull this off, with the help of crowd funding and a lot of very talented people. Leo's had a positive impact on a lot people, all around the world. That's remarkable.

For information, a Panama lead is a fair lead which is situatied in the bow/stern on the center line of the ship. it's a requirement for ships that pass the Panama Canal. The steel wires to the locomotives that pull the ships trough the locks are passed trough these centerline located panama leads :).

What is Panama Fairlead? A non-roller type fairlead mounted at the ship’s side and enclosed so that mooring lines may be led to shore with equal facility either above or below the horizontal. Strictly pertains only to fairleads complying with Panama Canal Regulations, but often applied to any closed fairlead or chock.

It's amazing with the quality of the craftsmanship that's going into this build. Tally ho just keeps getting more beautiful with all the added jewelry. Anyone who's watched from the time Leo first bought and moved Tally ho to its first location and started tearing out all the rotten wood has got to be as amazed as I am with how fantastic Tally Ho looks now. Leo had a dream and to be honest I thought he was a little nuts. But he's definitely proved if you have a dream and are willing to work as hard as he has with the help of a group of amazing craftsmen and women your dreams can come true. Well done Leo and all the people involved with giving this old boat a new life. Now to be able to see Tally Ho sailing under full sail with Leo at the helm. I've got some serious health issues and I've hoped and prayed I'd be around to see Tally Ho cutting through the waves under sail, and I think it's going to happen. Thank you Leo,seeing Tally Ho sailing means more then most folks can imagine to me. God bless and protect Tally Ho and her crew.

I dont know why, but all these boat building channels help with the DoomScrolling. You guys and A2A are the best. Helps keeps the Demons of Davos out of my brain mush.

I know... not enough time. But there's a whole episode in crafting those bronze vents alone. Those have elevated the practical into pure artistry.

The lazarette vents are beautiful but also ideal wasp nest attractors. Maybe some screens.

I never fail to be amazed by the quality of the work of these young guys. In a world of mass-produced and built to a price, it's good to know that old skills and pride in a job well done are still alive and kicking. I would like to think that future generations freed from the drudgery of a nine-to-five routine will have the time and the resources to earn satisfaction through the work of hand and eye.

Leo, the workmanship over these years has been impressive. Today I admiring the combination of fine wood, mentally worked with fine tools and even Finner workmanship. Tally Ho is becoming a true work of art, to perfect to get wet. Find a to sail oceans without getting Tally Ho and crew WET! AMEN.

I continue to be completely amazed by the outstanding work being accomplished by not only you but by each of the craftspeople associated with your project. The craftsmanship is superb and no detail seems too small not to receive full attention. Thank you again for taking us along on your journey to bring this beautiful vessel back to life.
