Great list Soumyajit, I think however you should have also mentioned XR Engineer/Designer in this list as this is coming to be one of the most high paying and low supply roles and is expected to grow further, especially in the VR and MR space. I would love to hear your thoughts on the same.

One missing thing in the video is the number of job openings in said domains. There will always be way more SDE roles than data scientist/data engineer/MLEs. So even though there are a lot many roles in data science/ml/analytics the total number of jobs available would be way less then regular SDEs. for every 10 SDEs there would be 2 data engineer....1 data scientist and 1 product manager.

I completely disagree with this, a product manager doesn't need to be a software engineer because you need to understand the market and industry rather than a coder. In fact, if you are a coder with no business acumen, you will end up building a product which no one uses.

I didn't say that a developer or a coder cannot become a product manager, all I meant was without business acumen it is difficult for someone to manage things. For a product manager, having people management skills and understanding business is much more important rather than tech skills. The product manager will drive things through the coders. Elon Musk's way of handling things now is a classic example, so I don't want to deviate here by talking about him.

Since by default Engineers are problem solvers so they become the best Managers instead of an XYZ person having an MBA degree coming with bookish knowledge and trying to do things in the real world! It's easier and more viable to talk about tech with a Tech guy instead of a finance guy who now has an MBA and wants to manage the tech product !!

Most of them would be automated upto great extent. The demand for sre/devops will remain there but you need to learn ds algo and system design as well. Learn some coding as well. The SDE would do the ops work as well. But the SRE role will remain there.

Well, I am a former QA engineer and have switched to software development engineer. I realized back in the 2008 recession that the most likely roles to go are software QA and the last role that came back when we were recovering from said recession was QA. It took me over 10 years to finally meet that goal of becoming a SDE. We’ll see if I will STAY a SDE in the next few years. But it’s been over 1.5 years and I’m so happy to be in this role. That said, I also have my QA experience as my ace in the hole to show I can develop quality software and write unit tests. Also he had said in the previous videos that dedicated QA will go away in the next 10 years. I agree with this statements. Manual QA in fact is becoming extinct. It’s more than likely that the task of test automation will go to development. The task of testing unfortunately will fall on the SDE‘s shoulders and their unit tests will unfortunately expand to doing system test automation. I already see this back in the very old days of Twitter and Airbnb.

I am currently a software engineer and doing both manual and unit testing by myself but for e2e testing we have dedicated person. We have only 1 QA against 10 SDE. I would say demand of QA may decrease but won't extinct.

Bhaiya meh jab careers in software engineering ke bare meh research kar raha tha, toh mene dekha ki Machine Learning Engineer, Data Engineer, .Security Engineer, yeh sab engineers SDE profiles hai. Toh I don't think ki we need a masters degree or something like that to become a machine learning engineer or anything similar. If you are an SDE, you might be given MLE role, so I think in my opinion to become a MLE, you need to be a SDE first Is this true?

Well if you see, the work a QA engineer is doing can be easily done by a SDE as well provided he has some bandwidth to do that alongside developing the product. The framework under QA are not much hard if you are good SDE to grasp. And in current time where company are laying off then it is pretty much obvious to say that if they are looking to fire someone then they can go for removing testers . In fact , in many companies you would hardly find any openings for software testers. So in case you are planning to move into that field make sure you are aware about pros / cons. I have a pretty good experience in this as I have left a role for sdet at faang company because of these possible future scenarios only .
