My all time favorite Knick. John Starks was fun to watch. From an unknown in high school and college for the most part, to NBA all star and an NBA rule away from an NBA champion.
Great work on Starks J C. ,,,btw Vernon Maxwell was like a old school B- Side version of starks with less of the hops but equally as Fiery and a bit faster Mad Max ) or Pooh Richardson from the early 90s that looked like he wouldve been Allen Iverson older brother.
Great work as always, JC. Have you considered covering Steve Kerr for a Growth Spurt? As I think of it now, you could cover both his time as a player and as front office personnel. I bring this up bc I recently reread Bill Simmons' Book of Basketball, and he had a really good foot note on how he understood bball and had a great career - and that was of course _before_ he was the Dubs head coach.
Can you do a video on how Pat Bev went from averaging 38 in high school to playing in Europe to eventually be an NBA role player? I've always thought it was an interesting story.
He’s my favorite Knicks player of all time alongside the guy they traded him for years later Latrell Spreewell if only he didn’t go cold game 7 in the ‘94 finals he wouldve got that ring man he was a dawg in his prime
@@c-notedagoat90 indeed he was a Dawg. STARKS is 1of the first players that that really had that NBA Jams video game play style far as how he jumped up super high on his sweet looking jump shot and how he used to get up on his dunks in the lane all over the rim.
I met John Starks during his stint of odd jobs, he bagged groceries for a few months in a small town in Oklahoma. I was a around 6-7 yrs old. He was a nice to me, I never knew he would become who he was. I woulda gotten an autograph 😂😂 my uncle was with me and still brags about that story till this day. All these yrs later. I met Dennis Rodman when he was in Oklahoma as well. Legends fr
That’s cool I’m from Oklahoma and heard the starks story all my life . My high school coach played Dennis Rodman in college and he said bruh was unbelievable! He was miles better than everyone else 😂💯
You finally answered my John starks growth spurt request 3yrs later .Lol starks had them NBA jam real life hops on his sweet looking jump shot and his off the 1,2 poster dunks in the lane .
Love the change of pace from Stunt to Spurt, it’s a whole new lane of covering players who overcome obstacles and go on to have great careers, the opposite end of the spectrum, brilliant brother
Can’t lie I hated Starks growing up a bulls fan…But as I get older I appreciate the dog he played with…he always attacked Jordan no matter what and as a hooper you gotta salute 🫡 that 🙌🏾‼️
In the uk in the early 90s basketball videos were about only way to see nba unless you had sky TV. After watching one such video called three peat, there was a part about the bulls battles with the knicks and I instantly a favourite team and player. I loved the rough knicks and johns fire and grit and the fact he was the under dog. Still my favourite team and player to this day.
Well done piece. Starks always played with a lot of heart and was one the most underrated Knicks on a physical BIG MAN team/league in that Era. How a about Mahmoud?
I rem back when i was a kid, I used to hate the Knicks cuz I was a MJ/Bulls fan then, but as I got older, and understood Starks backstory, I had to respect him and his game. To come from his background to the NBA is amazing. Nothing but respect for Starks. He was a really good player too back then. he was right place, right time. he was perfect for the 90s Knicks teams. "The Dunk" in 93 has to be top 5 or 10 due to the circumstances and what was at stake during that ECF. His #3 should be retired by the Knicks
Great One Bro… I talk shit when I disagree but gotta give you those 🥀 when you’re spot on … I believe there are alot of fringe players who if given the right opportunity can make this happen. Great to see the story again for these athletes, gives them a reason to keep going until you can’t .
The Knicks should of kept that 92 team roster with Xavier Macdaniel and Mark Jackson. I would of got rid of Oakley and Doc Rivers while they still have value and kept Gerald Wilkins. Ewing, X-Men, Wilkins, Starks, Jackson starting 5. Mason off the bench or even start
Back in the day growing up in The Bahamas in the early-mid 90s, Starks was one of my TOP three players to watch and idolize(especially his defense).... ANYONE who stood up to the GOAT(I hated MJ) I was their NO.1 FAN side note: In the 92 slam dunk contest, Cedric ceballos still has the BEST dunk ever.... Ran the court and dunk the ball blindfolded
Just a quick thought! Idk if youve done a russell westbrook stunted growth video but it would be a great idea! How he he actually sort of had a growth spurt AND a stunted growth from starting off as a young promising prospect alongside KD and harden to becoming a franchise player for OKC, but then has his growth stunted and eventually becomes a key player for a teams SECOND UNIT, as where he stands today. BUT, he is currently still in the league all and all.
He was a streaky player like Latrell, definite energy booster for our 90s Knicks. The baseline dunk on Horace and Michael still gets me excited when I watch it on You Tube today. The ups were just incredible in his calves.
@@MK-fl7hb, Ewing missing the damn fingeroll against Indy killed me. Houston making that floater in Miami is my all time favorite Knicks moment. I am taking Larry Johnson before him though. I got Frazier in there because he was damn good and the way NYC just fit him so well off the court and he calls Knicks games. Melo has no shot in the top 5. I'm only 40 years old, but the guys in the 90's were just different.
Mate I forgot to mention Bill Bradley, he was averaging 30 plus points back in the days when the Knicks won their first championship. Walt Frazier and Earl Munroe were crazy back then and so is Willis Reed
The thing is Ewing was the man in the 90s, and he doesn't get enough praise for what he did to the Knicks franchise. All the centres comes after him like Chandler, Eddy Curry, Stoudamire and Camby can't put up the same winning percentage as Ewing
One of my favorite shooting guards growing up in the 90s he had that attitude that he wasn’t afraid of anyone! Shame he went 2/18 in game 7 against the Rockets imagine if they won it all for NY
I was about to say that. Ain’t no way Starks is 6’5, I’m 6’4 and I walked past him like 3 times and to me he’s like 6’2-6’3 with short arms and small shoulders
He and Ewing were nicknamed Thunder and Lightning!! I grew up on Long Island. Love my Knicks and was always left so frustrated. Ewing tricking that finger roll off against the Rockets. Fml. I was 13 or so heated af. Hated Ewings kneee braces and not being able to dunk that ish!!!! 😮😂
Should do Josh Christopher. I don't think he'll live up to his high-school hype. But it's not his fault. Dude just won't get a chance to start. Given a backup role though very good at it when given a chance
I'm 40, from Brooklyn, and this has been my team since '89. I can live with that 2 for 18. Gotta go with what got you to the dance. It hurts, but shooters gotta shoot.
The most overrated dunk in history only hyped because it was on Jordan and Marv Albert's commentary he was a Knick and back then they didn't show the playoffs on cable so the entire world saw that dunk on national television Channel 4 here in NYC..
Well at least Starks will do the double pump reverse dunk on the break, you don't see many guards in the NBA do that dunk back in the day and especially in today's game.
“Dunking over Michael Jordan” 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 You Starks fans are so *FUNNY* That wasn’t “over” Jordan. Pippen dunked *OVER* Ewing. Jordan dunked *OVER* Ewing. Starks dunked near Jordan.
