Today’s feature is a voice you may recognize, but a name you never hear as one of the best centers of the late 80s, early 90s. In an era where the center was THE position of focus, and 7 footers were at some of their most competitive, Daugherty shined and made himself a 5 time all star through the first 7 years of his career, becoming an all star as just a sophomore in the NBA. He made the all rookie first team, all NBA team in 92, and even has his number 43 retired by the cavaliers. A deserving gesture, seeing as Daugherty in his 8 years with the organization, made the Cavaliers their most competitive franchise history, even a contender by 92, taking his team to the eastern conference finals in 1992, losing to the Bulls once again in the playoffs, Stopped by the goat a heart breaking 5th time in Brad Daugherty’s 8 year career with Cleveland, including back to back years in 88 and 89. And who can ever forget probably the greatest game winner of all time, a fading shot on Craig Ehlo in 1989 by Jordan, to help Chicago beat the Cavs in the first round of the eastern conference finals, while many had the league leading 57 win Cavs to advance to the second round. Daugherty was the top guy. His career was most certainly headed to a Hall of fame ending, but for these reasons although he deserves to, most likely won’t receive the greatest honor you could receive in basketball. The Hall of Fame. Here’s why. Why Brad Daugherty Won’t Make The Hall Of Fame! Stunted Growth

Almost surely headed to the Hall of Fame before these things happened. 19 points and almost 10 rebounds a game over 8 years, in the competitive 90s at that. Daugherty had the Cavs playing at some of their best ever.

That 1988-89 squad looked like the frontrunner for team of the 90's. They had a young futuristic style with the best passing center in the league in Daugherty (a slim version of proto-Jokic), the modern looking point guard stylings of Mark Price (Nash before Nash), the high scoring shooting guard who could weave through traffic in Ron Harper, (proto-Kobe before Kobe) and the unicorn shot blocker who could shoot from outside in Larry Nance. They even had solid depth with Ehlo and Hot Rod off the bench. Nance being the older veteran who was a bit injury prone ended up being the steadiest contributor of the next few years though. While the first huge step back for the team was the Harper trade, Harper would end up in a series of terrible ACL injuries that destroyed his HOF potential anyway. Price smashed his knee against the scorer keeper's table, and despite a solid comeback, he was never the same. And of course Daugherty's back issue was a constant throughout the early 90's. The guy they traded Harper for, who was supposed to become the Larry Bird of the 90's, was none other than Danny Ferry, a huge disappointment. All together, that Cavs team was one of the greatest what-if stories.

I’m a lifelong Cavs fan since 1986 and I really do think those Cavs teams were ahead of their time. Almost prototype GSW. If it was for Michael Jordan, a little tougher, and if the Cavs leaned more into three-pointers, CLE would’ve been champions back then. Oh well.

Bulls/Rockets would've been a great series. I think the 1994 Bulls get the Rockets though. That team won 55 games WITHOUT MJ & was a bad call away from getting to the finals that year. That Rockets team barely beat the Knicks, who could've lost to an MJ-less Bulls team that year. Now, 1995 is a different animal. If Horace Grant still leaves, it would've been tough to match the Rockets size, plus they had another great scorer in Clyde that season. Also, going to five Finals in a row fatigue definitely would've played a part in that series. Would've been great to see it though! It's a nice hypothetical

The original Tim Duncan. Had Duncan played during the 80s and 90s, his career would have been similar to Daugherty's. Duncan at best, would have been the 4th best center in the league during this period.

@@dbethea2744 Im right. Prove me wrong? Duncan only played against Shaq during his prime. Daugherty had to go up against, Ewing, Parrish, Robinson, Shaq, Olajuwon, Moses Malone, Mourning, and the list goes on and on, every single night. He was also the best passing big man in the league.

Daugherty/Price were the knockoff Stockton/Malone. Daugherty will make the NASCAR Hall of Fame though.

Except Price wasn't a-DIRTY-player like Stockton and Brad didn't impregnate a 14 yr old girl at 20 like-CHESTER-the-MOLESTER-Malone. LOL.

They really were a lot like them - Price probably a little better offensively than Stockton, but Stockton a better distributor. Daugherty wasn't as good as the mailman, but he was VERY good during that era. Price and Stockton are probably the two best pick and roll PGs of that era. Price was one of the first guys to split the Pick and Roll, and did so expertly.

@@elliemyers6435 It's really uncanny too that both Malone and Daugherty are black rednecks. Malone love his semitrucks and Daugherty loves his NASCAR. The difference between Stockton/Malone and Price/Daugherty were Hornacek and Ehlo, the NBA's Ken vs Ryu matchup.

imagine if the cavs draft len bias. oh and yeah people like you will never understand the evolution of the game now buddy, you need to have atleast 2 or maybe 3 legit star on a team who average atleast 25 and 30 a game to be able to compete in the championship now cause thats how high the scoring now not like before the only average is like 70-90 ppg now its different thats why people like dame, luka, drose and other players now who dont have a co star who can score atleast 25 ppg will never win a ring and yeah a great supporting cast, stop acting like mike didnt have a great supporting cast and a great coach who know how to use him oh and a soft competition in the 90s too.

I love your channel, but to say that Jordan’s game winner against the Cavs is the great game winner shows the blind bias to Jordan. First round game winner where neither team made it to the chip is more on the Dame level. Elite, but not greatest ever

Stop saying that fallacy.. the guys simply couldn’t team up in that era , the cap wouldn’t allow it, let’s stop acting like this guys somehow just wanted to compete more than other eras, they didn’t. If they team had the advantage however it happened they rolled with it, if guys could have joined up they would have. Every chance players got in those days to team up they did, from Walton going to the Celtics, though not great could’ve gotten paid more & played a bigger role elsewhere. He chose Boston, Moses orchestrated along with the 76ers, his trade there. My point is stop the phoney narrative there. The Bulls grabbed Rodman & it made them unfairly better than other teams in some fans eyes at the time. Rodman helped by making his value low by his antics but in the end The Bulls wanted that talent ..
