Watching this after Echoes of Widsom was announced- I wonder if this game, being made using the same engine as Link's Awakening, played a role in their decision to let the title go out of print. I just think that that announcement connects to a lot of analysis done in this video quite nicely.
Honestly I don't think Mario Maker 3 would be a particularly good move if it didn't have back-compat with MM2. We already saw the community split between Mario Maker 1 and 2, which is a genuine problem seeing as Mario Makers niche has very much been with the hardcore fans (and content creators).
To be fair the split was because SMM1 was the better game but SMM2 was on the not dead system. If they bring back the mystery costumes from 1 and keep the new parts from 2 they could easily make a better game
Mario Maker 1 was better for Super Mario Bros due to the costumes. MM2 gave us slopes, but wasn't worth it. MM3 don't need back-compact, but it needs to keep all entities from MM2 at the very least, and must be better in every single way! For example, would really be nice if MM3 came with a stylus that works with the switch 2... level making was fun!

Concerning Xenoblade. I actually think that instead of doing a definitive edition for Xenoblade 2 or 3, it's probably more likely, at least in my mind, for them to take a page out of the Kingdom Hearts playbook, and produce a collection package of the first story saga's titles. Said collection would encompass all three numbered titles, as well as their DLC's. And they'd take that re-releases chance to update the graphics and performance, as well as fixing some of the QOL issues that plague 2 that 3 corrected. They even have a potential title for such a bundle. Call it "Xenoblade Chronicles: The Experiment Saga". This sort of pack would make a lot of sense for a release probably in 2027. Making it a perfect place for newcomers to the brand to start, and tiding us over as things get into the running going into the next story saga, likely tying into either Xenoblade X or Xensaga. Xenoblade X on the other hand, I think that does actually get the definitive edition treatment. 2025 is the games 10th anniversary. It was a graphical showpiece title for the WiiU, and it was also a part of that generations strategy with online gaming. Something that has become much more important as the years have gone on for Nintendo. In my mind, 2025 for Switch 2 makes perfect sense for this title. The new platform would give them the increase in horsepower needed to push out the graphics pretty far. It is one of the most requested re-releases by fans at this point, so it's easy win for hardcore customers going into the new platform. And paired with Nintendo's new online infrastructure that's being cooked in collaboration with DeNA, a remade Xenoblade X could be one of the flagship titles for the new systems online service if the multiplayer features in the title are sufficiently expanded. Giving Nintendo an opportunity to intice crowds like the FF14 Or PSO2 players of the world. If done correctly, this could even prove to be Xenoblade's big chance to explode into popularity by embracing the MMO crowd. As is the titles sell in the ballpark of 2 million copies a game. Which is no slouch as far as core JRPG's are concerned, but there's a potential here for a massive expansion in popularity, given the sheer quality of these titles. The combat system of the series is already heavily in line with that style, so a proper commitment is the logical next step in my opinion.
I wouldn't want to have to buy the mess that's XC3 again just to play a XC2 remaster. Same for XC, I bought it two times before, so I don't need to buy it a third time. That's also a crazy bundle considering how long the games can be.
@@NuiYabuko Xenoblade 3 is a mess? Funny, given that XC2 is a good story tacked onto a game that is both a technical train wreck and poorly explains every single one of it's mechanics.
Storage costs have failed to drop relative to the trends of the last forty years, so there's no good reason why Nintendo would dash their revenue with a selects line
I agree that it's probably just a cost of reprinting vs potential sales gained thing. Particularly with them all being available digitally for late adopters of the Switch.
Most of these games are still in stock everywhere and haven’t even gone on clearance yet and paper Mario origami King and the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 have been out of print since 2022 because those got hard to find at the beginning of 2022
I believe that BotW and Splatoon 2 have Complete Editions in Japan. I think they're priced higher, though. Nintendo Switch Sports likely sold higher digitally since it got new sports added digitally.

I will definitely get to Monolithsoft as I think it's well worth a deep dive but it's not on my radar for the next few months. Partly because it's research-intensive so it needs more time. Also, just selfishly, I never really stuck with Xenoblade before and I'm currently rectifying that - just finished DE this weekend and I'm going onto Future Connected and then the newer games as time allows. I'm slightly reluctant to trawl interviews for info that might spoil games I'm excited to play. After that, I'm definitely looking forward to making some more Xenoblade/Monolithsoft content but it may be a few months away yet. Sorry - hopefully it'll be worth the wait though.
I think odyssey getting pulled off but breath of the wild not getting pulled could line up with a Nintendo selects type of thing. They wouldn't offer breath as a select since that would interfere with sales of Tears of the Kingdom, especially since that is even more expensive at $70
One theory I have, is that after the next system is unveiled, assuming it's backwards compatible, we could see something akin to a Nintendo Selects line with Switch cartridges that include a patch to take advantage of the new system's features. Among the various titles, I suspect Super Mario 3D All-Stars may also return through this. As for Xenoblade Chronicles, will it be just the first two? Or will we see a trilogy set? Regardless, I suspect Age of Calamity, Arms, Game Builder Garage, and Tetris 99 to be on the list as well. Also, the only reason we lost the Splatoon 1 servers was because the entire Wii U infrastructure was shut down. As long as enough Splatoon 2 players continue to pay for Nintendo Switch Online, there's hope it'll stay online.
They'll probably discontinue the current $300 model out of the three models, it's the one that's diving faster in sales. The name "Nintendo Switch (OLED model)" even sounds like it's bound to be a replacement to the original Switch.
I'm skeptical of a MM2 port due to the herculean bugtesting feat you'd need to ensure QOL standards (old switch levels being beatable on new hardware with its own quirks).
It's just my personal opinion but I think the reason is NOT that they want a Zelda buyer to buy any Zelda (which always is the one in stock). They want a Zelda buyer to buy all the Zeldas on the system. If I have already skyward sword and Tear and Breath, then there is only Links Awakening left, if it isn't in stock I don't buy it, if it is in stock I can buy it.
@@Oxycircuit people still talk about it and how it's one of the best platformers ever. Mario Kart 8 is also a decade old but people still talk about it too.
I could quite honestly care less if the next Metroid game to come out is either Prime 4, Metroid 6 or even a remake of Super Metroid, just so as long as its a fun and enjoyable game that does the series justice, and isn't something that disgraces the franchise like Other M and Federation Force.
I’m not entirely sure what the big deal is; I’m still able to find roughly half of these games in store, especially Mario Odyssey. (notable exceptions being Pikmin 3, Metroid Dread, and Xenoblade 2)
If the Switch successor will be backwards compatible, I would not be surprised to see many of these titles reappear on store shelves. They are certainly not a priority for now, and they are not strong candidates to jump ahead in the queue of what Nintendo is producing now. It just seems to me that having access to the Switch's library would benefit the Switch 2, unless it has a legendary set of launch titles. For the first few months, there were limited options on Switch. But if these titles cannot be played on the new console and would just motivate people to postpone getting one, it will never happen.
Maybe it’s because these games are 7 years old and Nintendo is shifting focus on something else and this is their way of making changes for the attention to be on them in the right ways in a year.
While I 100% agree and think the points in this video are well made. I have to disagree on one point. Three houses i can see getting a "switch 2" remaster port. It cannot be emphasized enough how much 3H done for fire emblem in terms of bringing players back and creating new fans. However, the #1 criticism that almost every player yad of that game is it ran poorly and a number of people go so far to say its ugly. This combined with the continue success the game has on fire emblem heroes which still is a very successful mobile game despite itself. I could see nintendo wanting to add more to that universe. a Remastered port with better performance and cleaned up assets could be the perfect stepping stone between the heavily rumored remake/remaster of another entry and the next "mainline" title. Which could lead perfectly to a prequel or sequel to three houses 4 5 years down the road. As, if you dont count three hopes(which can be argued not to count), we are long over due for a direct sequel or prequel. Is this highly likely? No, but i think it warrents a forecast.

Their names are Kiemonte, Sunari, Neyla, Xavior, Gerodi, and Jalrez. Kiemonte is the wise, mature, and loyal mage leader and ruler who guides his fellow mages. Sunari the dancing mage and Neyla the mind mage are fraternal sisters. Xavior is the close friend and mage decipherer, and Gerodi and Jalrez are the mage guards.
@@emiel333 Similar to how Mario and Luigi are siblings, Sunari and Neyla are siblings. Also I could say they are a pair like how Peach and Daisy can be seen a pair. Xavior, I imagine him being like the fifth after Mario, Luigi, Wario, and Waluigi. Seeing how they are, Xavior is a human looking a little bit like something like them. As for Gerodi and Jalrez, they are also a pair showing Gerodi as the defense mage guard and Jalrez as the offense mage guard.
Engage is an absolute disgrace. From if/Fates onward they have mercilessly butchered EVERY Fire Emblem with pointless censorship, turning what was once a proud series of serious games primarily for adults into a pathetic joke of "Hey, kids, come play our candy coloured funtime with swords games!". Sad.
