SHOOSHI, IT IS I, FANDOM SHIPPER. I'm not sure if you remember me but I used to watch your YT streams and I mentioned A-Kon to you. Are you potentially going? I heard it's in Irving TX and you live real close to there.
In the original video, the ending has a noise like flesh and bone being torn and crushed. Coin locker babies were an actual thing that happened Im pretty sure but the story that this song is based on has the mother come back to the subway station where she left her baby and pretty much get sucked into the locker by the baby’s ghost. Pretty sure the noise at the end of the original is the mother getting stuffed into the locker herself, getting crushed in the process
or maybe as the mv shows, the ghost of the dead child pushed her unto the tracks and she got ripped apart under the train since he saw her happy and pregnant but abandoned them when she was still young (maybe around 17 judging by the uniform?). pretty morbid but hey, that's MARETU for ya and i love it
Im pretty sure the music video itself is of a high school girl who gets pregnant (either by an older man or a fellow high school boy) and when she gives birth to the baby she abandons it in a coin locker. In many Asian countries, a teenager having a baby is looked down on and brings shame to the family, so their only option is to abort or abandon the baby (it’s much more difficult with laws there being different than in the US). Also, yes, the boy we see is in a ghost costume, suggesting he is the coin locker baby who most likely passed away and is now resentful that his mother gave her future baby a chance. Such a good song tho
"In many Asian countries, a teenager having a baby is looked down on and brings shame to the family" sad part is: school education about sex education are poor and starts around grade 3-6 and stopped afterwards, leaving students to forget about sex education due to how young they were while learning it. (saying from experience btw).
This song was so political when it first came out.Everyone in the comment sections that time were brutal, and all were saying some bs like,"Oh,if the girl was r@ped,she should have wore a longer skirt" cause there was a theory that this song was Abt a schoolgirl who got SAd and now she had no choice cause abortion was expensive and quite illegal for underage without parents. Honestly,it was disgusting to say the least, when I read more comments under this song.
@@lesliemorganking3283 That things can only be kept in lockers for three days untilt hey get checked. And yes, this was... a trend for quite a while. A few years.
@@lesliemorganking3283 off topic but aaayy Moa-Metal pfp!! ✨ And yes- And i may be wrong but i think it is still going on in Japan or smth?? Idk. But it's horrid
Putting a little content warning on this comment, as it is a very dark subject. I've only read about this somewhere, so take this with a grain of salt, but basically the reason coin locker babies started popping up were because of how stigmatized abortions and putting your child up for adoption were/are in China and Japan. It's terrifying how those kinds of views can lead to putting your baby in a coin locker, and it's why coin lockers now always have cameras and three-day rules. It's likely that the mothers who went through with it suffered extreme trauma afterwards.
I live somewhere home abortions are common (because abortions are illegal and I live in the countryside), and I dont care about the 2 month fetus that gets aborted then discarded. Abortion (even illegal ones) usually dissolves the fetus or gets torn apart by the process. But a 9 month concieved baby being left to starve to death at a coin locker gets no sympathy for the mother for me. Get rid of your fetus while it’s still inside, not shit out a full grown baby then let it starve. These mothers would leave some 3 day old full grown baby and I dont see them as poor women. I see them as irresponsible and abusive. You should know better than to allow an unwanted child to grow and be birthed out, then starve it. It became a child when it came out, and child abuse is a thing.
@@immunityvi6968 here's a fact: unborn babies are still babies. Getting abortions is still killing a child. So it's sad either way cause a child still dies.
“Sayonara, Sayonara, coin locker baby,” I really love this line because it’s said so quickly kinda like how stuffing your kid in a locker happens so fast, it feels like you can’t reverse it.
I'm actually a victim of chinas 1 child policy! I wasn't found in a coin locker but I was found with my umbilical chord clamped meaning I was extremely newborn. The laws aren't as strict and now people in China can adopt other kids but I was a victim of their 2005 policy's
At the end of the original music video we can hear the sound of a train running over a body. The woman either killed herself in guilt or the baby survived and pushed her on the train tracks years later
Funfact: the doll that got it's head ripped off at the start is a teru teru bozu, it's a Japanese tradition it is believed by farmers in Japan that the doll will bring sunny weather if it was cloudy or rainy they would chop off the doll's head, if I am not mistaken "teru" means sun or sunlight
Im glad you finally reacted to this, and the thing that fucked me up about this song in particular was the ending. If you listen long enough you hear something sort of crying or screeching. The idea that that could happen at all is terrifying. Great vid as always
the sound is still there on spotify too, imagine listinin to it on spotify for the 1st time and hearin that XD i was so confused at 1st bc its not rly here on yt when u search the song
I'll just like to say that this is a serious problem in Japan that's still going on. The police now put up cameras in those places and now have three days rule were if someone has just left the locker for three days they have to check what's in. It's a rather sad thing
in japan at least, it wasnt about too many kids, it was that the mothers couldnt receive an abortion, so they abandoned the baby instead (they were overwhelmingly teen mothers, and we all know the state of teen sexual assault in japan). infanticide has been a recurring issue in japan over the past hundred years or so
There’s a handful of Vocaloid songs that got anime based off of them, such as Black★Rock Shooter, HoneyWorks’ “Our love has always been 10cm apart,” and Jin’s “Kagerou Daze” series to name a few
I remember reading a book of Ryu Murakami, while I can't remember the title, both mcs were survivors of being abandoned as a babies in lockers (no, they were not saved by their parents). I think he even has a book titled "Coin locker babies". I'm not sure why, but this video and more than that, this topic reminded me of it.
i had been listening to this song for a while, without knowing the lyrics, assuming it was maybe about some toxic relationship.... I learnt what it's about today... gosh-diggity darnit Maretu
I think the woman wanted a child but she was called "irresponsible" and had to put it into a coin locker. The boy that we see is a ghost of one of the kids. She didn't want to, but was forced to. She says, "wanting to raise their heads" as in wanting to have them, but wasn't aloud. Her "abandoned dreams" were the dreams of having kids. The thing is, she was a teen. I assume the parents didn't like a teen having kids, so they made her abandoned them. She had tried so many times, but was continuing to be forced to put them in the coin locker.
Coin Locker Baby is the second song of the album Coin Locker Baby which i recommend u react to most of the songs! The song i most recommend Sukuramaizu/スクラマイズ/Scrumize it has a reference to one of the other songs in the album and Sukuramaizu is overall just a banger! I’ll list all the tracks. Coin Locker Baby by Maretu 01: Last Day/最終日 02: Coin Locker Baby/コインロッカーベイビー 03: Thirst/渇き 04: Suji 05: Sanjyou/ Wretched Place 06: Eraser Girl/少女ケシゴム 07: Scrumize/スクラマイズ 08: Before I Was Born 09: Packet Hero/パケットヒーロー 10: Sakuran 11: Miseenen/ミセエネン 12: Umitagari/うみたがり 13: Mind Brand/マインドブランド (you’ve already listened too) 14: Nounai Kakumei Girl 15: Rational Time/ラショナルタイム The album is amazing and I hope to see u react to some songs!
Just a quick correction. The kanji of the 5th song is often mistranslated as Mugoba. On every streaming platform, it’s romanized as Sanjou meaning Wretched Place.
@@zeethezebra oh ok thx for the correction im glad that ppl r correctin me bc it’s useful to know what i did wrong and what i should do to it so thx again :]
another aspect of this is actually using "coin locker baby" as a metaphor for anything that like you should put time into taking care of (whether that's a relationship, yourself, stress, etc) just hidden away somewhere out of sight out of mind, abandoned. We all have one coin locker baby or another.
Yup, they have left babies in postboxes, public bathrooms, or just someone’s front door. My mom told me that once when she was traveling to a village a long time ago, someone left a baby at her door. She was too young that she panicked and didn’t know what to do so she just shut the door. Two hours later, she checked again and the baby was gone. Maybe the birth mother took the baby back, or some other people, no one knows…… It’s so fucked up.
i was in the original stream, when i heard the song for the first time the changes in tone of the song made me feel like it was multiple pieces of music smashed into one video and they're all about the same thing: yeeting the baby because they didnt want it anymore
Also, it's sad how near the end, you see a woman being happily pregnant with supposedly her husband. Seems like they're adults now! And then you see a shot of the supposed ghot of the coin locker baby, with wide enraged eyes because THIS time, she's happy and didn't (DIY-ly) abort the baby. And sees the happy life they could've lived if not for the lady messing up back in school.
yea always easier to blame a woman, whereas if the abortions hadn't been so stigmatized and frowned-upon, this whole "trend" with coin locker babies probably wouldn't have existed in the first place
@@heymayday8761 that too! I do not know exactly but i suppose it's safe to assume that because of the stigma, they had to do it in a scuffed way. Also, my point was more of a "teenager messing up big time" . So if anyone takes my comment the wrong way, heads up!
I don’t think it’s entirely on the girl’s(or literally anyone who just has an uterus) fault on getting pregnant but many countries DO have crap(if they even have it in the first place) sex ed and there’s creeps out there no matter the gender identity, race, age who would do unspeakable things to other people and that’s why i think we should teach the younglings (not just a certain gender but EVERYONE) to be careful.
Ahhhh so glad you reacted to another Maretu song!! He’s my favorite producer so it’s fun seeing how other people react to his songs! I recommend listening to SIU (a song directly related to Coin Locker Baby) or White Happy! (White Happy is a very philosophical song so I think you’d have fun learning it’s meaning!)
@@tigercat1080 From what I know, Coin Locker Baby, SIU and Uminaoshi are the ones that are connected (Umitagari is not contrary as the previous comment mentioned)
@@ThePipofDespair Oh I didn’t know he did, I don’t go to his livestreams unfortunately so! Also Umitagari, at least from what I’ve seen is not related to SIU or CLB. Uminaoshi is tho!
2:55 it’s a known practice still some countries stab scissors in the back upper neck of babies when they’re born if they’re unwanted. It’s only in places that allow (legally anyways) a “late abortion” but I mean the lil things already popped out by then
I’ve searched far and wide for the theories on my own only to find little to none, but then, out of the darkness, comes my notifications for ShooshiMooshi…love ya man 😭💙
I respect how you didn’t make to many jokes about it but still lightened it up a bit. There we’re many times where I was about to throw up and you had more chill jokes that made it a bit better.
Its funny that,in the end,the girl who put her baby in the coin locker, she sees a man with his pregnant wife, she got so traumatic of the coin locker baby thing that she pushes the pregnant woman to the tracks, that may explain the sounds in the end. Maretu is such a fucking Genius
Imagine the babies that were found in the Coin Locker grew up Then saying: “Yeah, I was shoved into a Coin Locker when I was a baby. I’m a Coin Locker Baby”
I’m happy you reacted to this :DD even though this song is dark it’s such a good beat. It’s always the songs with dark meanings that have the sick drops and stuff man. Also surprised you post pretty often! Was wondering you can react to Irreverent Girl - weevildoing ft. ANRI if you haven’t yet its a song with a nice beat and deep meaning
For some reason, if you watch the translation in Spanish for this video it talks a lot about the mother cheating on her current partner. Not to mention the sounds at the end of the song.
I wonder what is the background music. 🤔 Btw great video. I read some comments and I was like "What the fuck!?" Also I recommend the original (just to listen to the end), it has a really weird song at the end like 0rgans or bones being crushed or someone getting crushed (which is the same fucking thing). I would like to see your reaction to it!
Well, I think in the original video thact in the video at the end, the mother is pregnant and the baby that she killed is there so The ghost of the baby that she killed is there and so I think he pushed her into the chain rex because she abandoned him because she was too young to take care of him ( I think she was sixteen or seventeen based on the Outfit😅) And so she put him in the locker and Abandoned him.....( Hope this helps❤)
Hey you should really do the song Close and Open, Doors and Demons or Matryoshka they both aren’t as dark as the usual but are amazing songs and have negative meaning to them
Just a little suggestion- but would you ever be interested in listening and reacting to Delusion Girl by TOUYU and give an analysis on it? It's a pretty pogging song and Oktavia's cover equally as pogging
Is no one going to talk about that the girl and the boy in the song was like ‘f*** it let’s do our business without a ç0ńdøm’ like why didn’t they do that-
Omg I used to listen to this and not know what it meant I finally found out and then knowing you were watching it I was like oh shit he about to be disturbed 😨
