You can use the outdated tea bags to make tea dyed paper for your junk journals! Also if you have a Lions Club they will repurpose eyeglasses.
@gailcathey5642

Yes and even donate any eyeglasses with broken frames. Lenses can sometimes fit a new frame. Sometimes eye doctors and stores that sell glasses, or public libraries will collect the old glasses and get them to the charities / organizations.

I have to beg for used tea bags from the neighbour, because the paper in them is excellent as tarp and other fabric in model building. Just add water, And I don't drink tea myself.

years ago on a rainy Sunday my husband and I turned on QVC and just fell into the rabbit hole. It was a one day only as we were not ones to spend freely. But we did buy gifts for the grandkids and a couple things for each other. By the end of the day the people on the phone we would call with our orders were just sooooooooooo friendly and calling us by name. Wow! good thing we did not have that much money or being lonely or whatever, but I can sure understand how it happens. Sort of like watching a traffic accident. It just addictive.

Hello, Nina. I am so sorry for your loss. It's truly heartbreaking and I can't imagine trying to move on from losing a child. Even so, I wanted to suggest EMDR therapy, if you are able to obtain it. It can work so well, and quickly too, for trauma. I used it years ago and while it was tough at times, you need to be gentle with yourself for a few days after sessions, it felt like a literal weight had fallen off that I'd been carrying since childhood. I could literally feel my brain processing the trauma and connections. I hope you find healing and peace!

She described their basement being very organized with a shelf running around the whole perimeter of the room filled with every day essential items-mostly toilet paper. My father's uncle, and not least his wife, were incorrigible bargain hunters. Anything that was two for the price of one and they were on like flies on hot cow dung. They were also old-school frugal, so they didn't throw things away until they were completely worn out. Fortunately, I didn't have to take part in the clearing of houses and garages and workshop buildings, but I was told that they found, among other things, 6-7 complete sets of outdoor furniture, in the packaging. Untouched. Because the old ones were good enough. And because we don't have a flea market environment around here, a lot of it went straight to recycling. Because we don't have a landfill environment either.

Wow, this one looked more like a very well maintained property (no dust !) and not like a typical hoarder´s home ! And your first great find was a whole bunch of postage stamps, which means money. They will be perfect for your next Christmas mail. Big score on the gift packs, especially if they are vintage. Can´t wait to see part two of this adventure (if you like to produce a second one) ! Question, Renée: "Kiki" told me today that Lindt is a very common chocolate in the States, not expensive at all and available in every supermarket and even in gas stations. Over here it´s more a premium brand, so maybe we´re speaking about two different types of chocolate. Any experiences you made ? Have a great rest of this hot and sunny Wednesday. Not too much dust, but a whole lot of mouse droppings in that basement & even upstairs! Guess the mice survived on toilet paper and whatever scrap food they could find hanging around. A different type of hoarding, with useful items that were purchased and just stored away. I shall pass on any expired foods though! As for the Lindt chocolates, it is seen as a "gourmet chocolate" here, though on the more affordable side for those that would like something a little higher end than other brands like Hershey. I usually only have them during the Christmas holiday when people buy them for parties or to give as a little extra gift. We have our last day of the 90 degree weather today, storms looking to move in tonight. Hard to believe that July is just a few days away, the summer goes by too fast!

What a job! It's always a guilty pleasure to have a peek into homes like this. People are fascinating creatures. Speaking of human behaviour, it's half price day today at my local thrift so, even if I wanted to record there today, it will be impossible because there will be a crowd that may not be in its best Scandinavian behaviour. They have half price days right at the end of June every year because they close up for 'fellesfeirie' (common vacation time) where people have all or the last two weeks, at minimum, vacation days in July. I won't be thrifting much in July anyway, because we'll be at max capacity at the Katthotell! Oh, life is sweet when when its sunny and warm and days are full of thrifting, reselling and rehoming rescued things and spending a few hours a day with the cutest, furriest little buddies a lady could ask for.

I have had to clean out a couple of relatives homes as well as two storage units of my Father's after he passed. What we have to remember is that the items were THEIR things. Most of the items don't hold any memories or value to others. We can't keep everything of theirs in addition to our own. The younger generations these days don't want China or large furniture (hutches, huge desks, armoires etc.). They don't want Grandma's Precious Moments or Hummel figures. I have also noticed that folks sometimes purchase a lot of items right before they go. My Father did that. One of my friends did that as well and he bought the weirdest things. We found a case of Elmer's glue, crayons, two of the same items unopened etc. He was a bachelor, why would he buy Elmer's and crayons? After he died, the Amazon packages continued to arrive at his home. Luckily, Amazon let the family return everything. The glue and crayons were donated to a school. I think that would have made him happy.

I wish I understood hoarders more, maybe! I just can’t wrap my head around it all. I would want nothing to do with anything in that house. The insects and rodents must be horrific. I’ve been purging myself but I am not a hoarder.,I was a teacher for over 23 years plus a pre school teacher before I became a teacher. You could tell the students who lived in hoarders homes because of the smell that followed them everywhere. We had a change of complete clothes and a shower waiting on him upon entering the school. His mother was fine by this because they didn’t have running water! We bought the best smelling body wash and bar soap and showed him how to use a wash cloth to suds up the tan and scrub every part of his body. He had his own deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, brush, shampoo/conditioner/body wash, Dive bar soap, wash cloths, towels they er taught him how to wash his dirty clothes and his wash cloth. We taught him how to brush his teeth and floss. Put on the deodorant, and body spray. We got permission to take him to the vision Associates to get him an eye exam, in very bad need of) and got his glasses in 5 days. He was tickled that he was able to see the build boards on the way back to the school. I may have had dust in my eyes! The teacher kept undergarments, shirts, sweats,,jeans, socks, and tennis shoes to change out of if he had an accident while at school. He was made fun of and bullied and spent his recess talking with me. I learned a lot about his drug addiction parents and that’s why he stayed at his extremely ill grandpas house.,His grandfather couldn’t read or write and was extremely simple. It killed this young man when his grandfather passed and he was forced to go back to live with his “parents”. They had 3 children who ran away in the middle of the winter and stayed in an abandoned house.,The authorities got ahold of them and put them in the Youth Opportunity Center where they thrived!

Interesting. It’s sad when the heirs don’t want to handle the items or can’t administer estate responsibilities. Though, I realize it depends on the situation which can be such a daunting task. Family estate sorting involves grief on top of everything else that may cause anxiety and even more grief. Regardless, I hope that everyone in the clean-out crew can recover their labor costs out of this great effort. Such wonderful things there. Thank you for sharing. Huge amounts of stuff. Keeping the owners privacy in tact, could you perhaps tell something about hoard reasoning?
@PaperandMoose
@PaperandMoose Месяц назад
I’m not sure as to the reasoning why. We know for some items, it was a subscription basis so every month or so many months the item would be sent again. But how many cans of mixed nuts can one eat in a month & how many pairs of reading glasses does one need? I should have counted how many glasses I found… I’d say there had to be a minimum of 50 pairs in that desk!

Tonys chuntering heralds the first steps into - a nice house! Not a typical hoarder. I liked the scented candles sniiiiiiiff, can smell em from here! - knicks and knacks, bits and bobs…. Xmas trees….all looked a bit thrift store -ish Renee. Still interesting though. Some nice bin bags full of practicals. Again. Hard work for Tony, a field day for the intimate observation of mice….🐭😊

I think one can learn from this all is to be mindful of all the monthly/yearly subscriptions! They had monthly mail orders of wine, steaks (a freezer in the basement full), and other QVC products. With how forgetful I am at times, it would be easy to remind oneself to cancel & then forget until the item shows up again on your doorstep!

Taco Stacks could use those metal shelf units in his warehouse. Such a waste to hoard so many items. Thought I saw a huge stack of white styrofoam coolers in the basement, you could use those if you don’t have enough boxes. Just film it if you find good stuff. 😂

Hello Renee. I know this maybe a little of a let down for you but you’re helping Tony and that is a good thing. Plus you got something’s that you need and some other stuff you would never buy yourself. I think it’s worth it. And it will teach you never to horde things 😅😅. Except sticky notes. 😅😅😅😅. We all love sticky notes. Oh and paper towels, toilet paper, paper plates, cups. You could always give some to your family. But I know Tony needs to make a profit from this so . Take care. Hoarding has so many different aspects to it. The stuff in the house wasn’t junk, or someone keeping every single bit of newspapers (I’ve cleaned out that type of house before), but what looks to be a shopping addiction combined with hoarding traits. There’s no need to keep boxes & boxes of k-cups that expired in 2012. Normally we would throw them up, but that’s where the hoarding thoughts come into play. It’s sad really, as most don’t get to enjoy what they have but instead are just surrounded by the “stuff”.

Hi - I don't know what Tony's daily costs run (and not asking) but thinking he will cover them, storage, transport and then some. Assume the first few days involved removing furniture too? Seems like this person was a hoarder and a prepper. White rabbit at 7:38? And that was a gift bag with money printed on it at 16:00, right? Looked liked money in Ziplocs for a minute. I imagine you're right, those stamps will last you the rest of your life. I don't remember the last time I used one. Cucumber water? There are very few things I won't eat but cucumbers are one - blech. Did you grab a ceramic tree? Well, it wasn't a mind-blowing, Red Bull kind of clean-out but I learned some things. Thanks! Hope you have a great Wednesday afternoon!
@PaperandMoose
@PaperandMoose Месяц назад
The furniture will be left until the end (minus the mattresses) to see if a potential buyer would be interested in including any of the furniture with the purchase of the home. This would save on dumpster costs and/or storage costs for sure! The couch is the largest of the furniture pieces - thank goodness it wasn't in the basement! The gift bag had the money print on it, correct! Good spot! I like cucumbers & have had cucumber water, but I'd rather add lemon or lime to my water. One thing that's cucumber scented that I detest is cucumber melon lotion. It was really popular with Bath & Body works in the early 2000s and for whatever reason, I never liked the smell of it. Even thinking about it now makes me cringe. There's my odd story of the day :0)

So when you do cleanouts like this, who gets all the stuff that is resalable? Editing, because I'm now at the 10 minute mark and just heard what the deal is. So does Tony have to pay everyone to help out and then hope he can recoup that from what he can sell? I've had someone ask if I'm interested in doing clean outs before and am wondering how it works before I get into it....

There is the possibility this ‘hoarder’ was purchasing gifts for family and friends who never visited. The delivery person may have been their only regular contact with the outside. This person may have been disabled and needed to buy in bulk because they could not get out to make regular purchases. There are many reasons. Please be kind. No one enters into this kind of clean out agreement unless they are sure they are going to make a profit when the job is complete. If they do, I’m sorry to have to state the obvious, they are in the wrong business.
