I was at this game right and let me tell you, this guy was different bracket. He cantered all about the pitch as if he owned it and on that day he did. There wasn’t just this free kick, about ten minutes prior Van Persie played a ball through to him and he strolled on to it and without breaking a sweat stroked it into the bottom corner as if he was playing against a bunch of school boys. He’s the best player I ever saw in our stadium by far, we were mesmerised. I’ll never see a player play at the DW in my lifetime that comes close to him.
I was there for that game and I still think about it now to be honest. I'm a Leeds fan but a couple of mates from uni were Wigan fans and seeing Wigan v Arsenal as a neutral was too good to pass up. Henry was unbelievable.

The reason why he looked the way he did as the ball went into the goal was the ref had already made him take the kick again as he had tried to take it quickly before the ref was ready and he was saying to the ref, ‘Is that good enough?’ I was in the Wigan end that day (behind the goal when it was scored) and couldn’t believe how good that free kick was.
I am a Man U supporter, everything about Henry was legendary, I admired that invincible team which won the EPL without loosing one game, the good old days.
I am an Arsenal man, but have to admit United were able to match us all over the park. We had Henry, Pires, Lundberg, Edu, Vieira, Campbell, Cole but United had Scholes, Beckham, Giggs, Keane, Irwin, so the derbies were fantastic and so intense because both teams played for the win and for the badge because it meant something. Be a long time before we see that rivalry again. The current top 6 have it but it is not the same.

The real story behind this goal was that Henry tried to keep moving the ball closer to the goal but the referee kept resetting the ball further back, hense why at the end he looks directly at the ref and says "was that enough?" (I.e. Was that ball far enough back for you ref)

The referee prevented Henry from taking a quick free kick, you see him standing in between Henry and the ball. He felt Henry needed to wait more time for the wall when that's not the rule, you don't have to wait. That's why Henry is peeved when he looks at the ref and says "Is that enough?"
Saw him around 1998 playing at Pride Park for France U21 against England U21.He was on the left wing in those days,and was at least 2 classes better than anyone else on the pitch.
Everytime this video pops up in my news feed I always watch it and feel like I'm the only one who remembers the story behind it 😂...so here we go again .... In this edit of the footage you can't really see, but Henry and the ref were arguing about how close the ball was allowed to be to the goal... The ref would turn around then Henry would move the ball forward etc... So the ref moved the ball further away from goal. Henry ended up scoring and said to the ref "Is that enough??" (I.e. Was the ball far enough away from the goal for you😂)

What a magnificent player. Was often quietly envious as a Chelsea fan until Drogba became our big game striker. But Henry was special. The classic Arsenal kit that year was nice, always a fan of it too.
