This person is not qualified........

These jobs shouldn't be NOMINATED jobs, they should be posted for people to apply for. You could find someone who works for the largest airports that deal with direct experience. We've got to stop diversity hiring by giving nominations. And I don't mean by race but by actual qualified experience.

Safety and oversight of safety is the 1st n most important qualification.

As a person that has served his country, Mr Washington should know that it is in the best interest of America that he not be selected, since he has no knowledge, background, studies, on aviation. It's a dangerous thing to have an FAA Director that is, by no stretch of the imagination, qualified for it.

Qualifications should be one of the boxes needed to be checked off. Quota hiring, and hiring to repay a favor is ridiculous and dangerous.

"Logistics, HR, Training & Operations" reads as just enough experience to parallel the job requirements without having the actual experience needed. As a former F/A, I appreciate my base manager had been a F/A and not just someone who flew on planes while being an administrator in a related field but never worked the actual job. Honestly, this looks like another "diversity/equity" hire who's being brought in to fulfill an "unwritten quota", create good "optics" & perhaps even allow the race card be pulled if not confirmed. As a poc I'm not in favor of diversity hire situations, you always want the best qualified regardless of "equity" or "diversity". I'm sure the gentleman would be an absolutely fantastic addition to any other opportunity/business that can best utilize his current field of experience & qualifications, just not aviation/aerospace or the FAA.

This selection is ridiculous and seeing statute (written law created by the peoples' elected representatives for the people) REQUIRES, an aviation background and knowledge then there is no way around this. One MUST have an aviation background as this is the demands of the people and therefore law and written statute commands of this nation. No ands, ifs, or buts. How is this man supposed to conduct any meetings if he has no experience of aircraft capabilities and inabilities? How is he supposed to understand the jargon in an on-the-fly meeting? This would take and should take years of experience and full understanding of these types of things. This guy would be lost in the position and likely many lives would be lost as well. I can't even believe this a consideration. Right out of the gate he is disqualified by statute, meaning written law does not allow him to take the seat. File his application under "G" for garbage. I'm sure he's a great guy, very knowledgeable in many things other than this particular subject, and thanks to him for his service, but this does not change the fact that this job is obviously and simply not for him or even within his wheelhouse.

If the FAA were completely defunct and air travel was a hopeless mess, then yes, I could see how a novice outsider could be seen as the right remedy. But, this is just not the case. What the agency needs is someone who is intimately familiar with what works and can figure out how to make it better. And, someone who is not a pilot or controller, I feel, shouldn’t even be able to get on the ground floor. We don’t need someone with big ideas and no idea about what they are messing with. This was a good examination, by the way. He wasn’t smug, he didn’t pepper his time with dog whistles, and he didn’t make a big show about one party vs another. Straight to the point and easy to follow without needing to show which ideological side he’s on.

I think 🤔 about saying.... whatever you want to hear 🙉... But I think I'm the head of the FAA and I don't think I know what I'm talking about... Are we having fun yet?

I am more than concerned why after so many conversations/questioning between these Congress persons and Mr. Washington's responses, why would he not withdraw his name? Mr. Washington has no applicable aviation experience, none, no substantial aviation experience in airports, air carriers, aviation maintenance facilities or anything directly related to aviation. Broad transportation knowledge..where is that in Mr. Washington's resume.....there is none! Mr. Washington have some dignity and withdraw!

Before any company or administration be required to hire based off "diversity" standard; it should be absolute that whoever proposes this rule/law/mandate, must be subjected to the exact same proposal BEFORE anyone else be forced to. Next time Joe Biden gets onto his private jet- let someone tell him that the new pilot isn't technically qualified by yesterday's standards, but instead he's qualified by today's diversity standard, as a black gay man [for example.] See if Joe Biden decides to continue on that flight.

While we want our military to get good paying jobs when they get out, they should never have served their country and then not have a job and have to be on the streets, like we see so often in every city everywhere across this country- and in other countries! They have to go live somewhere else because their own country won't give them home! Give the man a well-paying job protecting our schools or something like that, maybe even protecting our Capitol. I'm sure he'd do a better job than anyone else.

Most of the recent problems within the FAA have to do with the Terminal Air Traffic Control environment. It will take someone with a deep ATC knowledge to fix them. Someone like me, tbh.

Adaptive leadership? You can’t head up the FAA when you lack the most basic understanding that all qualified pilots possess. You have no idea what ADS-B is, you have no idea what a Sport pilot rating is, and you clearly have no idea what you’re trying to get into. Does this man actually believe he would have any respect at all from the aviation community or from his subordinates? Mr. Washington - if you were a good leader - you would know when to decline a nomination to a job you KNOW you haven’t the foggiest idea about. For Pete’s sake, he could’ve bought an FAR-AIM study guide and tried to prepare for his ‘so-called’ job interview. Best part is when the congressman reminded him to what organization (FAA) position he was trying to get appointed to. What a joke. The FAA should be run by aviation experts that actually worked in the field. Period.
