I’m from the Midwest but I’ve been trying to figure out these Montana kokane salmon and I’ve learned so many important tips from you guys that have helped me tremendously I caught my limit yesterday
Hey there, Capt. Adam! Another great video. I heard you guys mention a few of my mistakes and I also learned a lot about when to pump and when not to. Thanks for that. My personal favorite mistake: Staying on a long troll with no action just because the boat and lines are running right in a good direction for the waves and thinking "man, I just know somethings going to bite soon". So don't fish where the fish aren't. Lol
Great information! I’ve been wanting to ask a charter captain if they ever clip on divers like a planer board. That way you can have a long leader, take the dipsy off the line and reel the fish in. I’ve done this for a while and had some success.
Nice video again Adam!! When the Captains were talking about divers and hand lining their fish. Wonder why they don't use slide divers more to eliminate that 8' leader length????
I think most of the guys I fish with and talk to find that mag divers and regular diver produce more fish. Also you have less issues and knots when using wire. I think slide divers are a great tool and can produce fish in certain situations. Wire divers are really hard to beat the way we fish them.
Great video with things to keep in mind when fishing once a week or so. I'm a weekend warrior so I feel like I'm always playing catch up to figure out what's working. My question is about fishing an area that you're marking bait in. I feel like I've wasted a lot of time circling an area with bait and not getting a single bite. Any thoughts on this? I'm excited to be heading up to captain chucks this Friday to pick up my 450 copper and some baits that I ordered.
Great question. If I mark a single pod of bait I’m not likely to spend a lot of time on it. If I go through some bait and get a couple bites I often will try to get back through it. I think that speed and direction of troll play a massive role in getting one bite or 7-8 bites. It is often difficult to match up a troll coming from a different direction. Keep that in mind when you are trying to make passes through bait pods.
Good video. A lot of useful information. As a first mate in Two Rivers I enjoy listening to how you guys fish and it always amazes me on how different we fish compared to you guys.
I have personally increased my landing percentage tremendously by never using a net on big fish. Several years ago after going offshore for tuna and seeing how well a gaff works I switched to gaffing all my big salmon and rarely losing any boatside. Prior to that we had many kerfuffles boatside netting and many lost fish. Then when we did get the fish in the net we usually ended up with hooks stuck in the net too. The gaff is much better at landing big fish.
How dare you stab fish, how cruel! I pad my net with plush pillows to make sure fish comfortably slides in and I don’t use the hooks on my lures to avoid injuries
