I just bought a 2008 tl base automatic as my first car and for a first car it’s way to quick I gotta say, I’m still in high school my last year then I’m going to the military and after the military I would love a 08 type s manual. The car just looks so good from the outside and you get performance, luxury, and reliability. I absolutely love the 3rd gen and I’m planning on driving them for a long time and the car still will look modern in another 15 years probably!
@@CitizenPerkins I’ve had it for about 8 years now. It’s Silver paint with Black leather seats & interior. I really like the White Diamond Pearl color! Mine is the base model. It’s been Very good to me & I take really good care of her and drive it easy. Other than regular maintenance items, the only thing I have had to replace on it so far is the side motor mount. It just turned to 160,000 miles. I want to keep it forever!
I love my 06 TL 140k, but would never buy one again. 2nd time replaced dash by dealer, yet cracked again. Cupholder 2nd time replaced. Stuck and broken 3rd time. I have noticed when I brake the car does swerve left and right for few seconds. I did not know what it was until seeing this video about VSA. My VSA light did not come on. Seals around glass are coming out. Headliner dropping down slightly. Never had this issues with my Corolla that I owned 14 yrs.
I have a 2004 Acura TL with the same cracked dash and the same broken cup holder cover. No problem with stability control. Car has 95,000 miles. Still runs great. We are keeping our TL and just bought a Lexus IS350c hard top convertible 2010 70,000 miles. Mint condition $20,000 all in. It’s a beast 3.5 liter V6 306 HP.
95000 mile that car still a baby is not even broken in yet I got the same car I got 142000 Miles now and I got all new parts runs like a brand new car keeping it forever. By the way I do my own maintenance and repairs that's a Plus...
I had a ‘13 TL SH-AWD. 3.7 liter v6 with 307hp. Loved that car, especially in the snow. Got a 17 RDX now, and while it’s super comfy it’s not super quick. My next car is gonna be a Genesis G70. You should check it out.
im at 177k in my 2004 tl I still love it lol Recent issues: Driver side door does not respond to key fob( door actuator needs replaced) AC compressor needs replaced cup holder cover broken dashboard cracks replaced fuse for faulty windshield wiper fluid motor Driver side side marker replaced
Nice man! Yeah those issues sounds familiar haha. My AC compressor hasn't gone out yet thankfully, but we just had to replace one on our other car. Cost almost as much as the car is worth🤦♂️The TL is great but things definitely start to break the more you drive them (as with anything)
When did those issues start occurring ? I want a Acura TL and I was going to look at one today that has 83k miles and I don’t want to jump into a problem.
My wife and I have a 2005 TL and its been a great car. Has about a 130k miles half hwy/half city. About 18 months ago we had to replace the starter and it had a slow oil leak around a pump on the backside of the engine. The starter replace was about $600 but they had to pull the engine to fix the pump leak, that was about $2000 after taxes. Both of those items are common so watch out. Our dash is cracked a little worse than yours. Two of the windows don't roll up well, the motors need replacing. We would never get money back for fixing those items. We are looking to sell it just because my wife is bored with it after 15 years even though it still has plenty of get up and go. She never really enjoyed that aspect of the car, it was more me:) Be careful of the Jags, they typically require way more maintenance than Acura's, you may lose patience with it fast. We have 3 kids now, so the Acura MDX is appealing to us.
The dashboard and the cup holder cover issue is really just a cosmetic inconvenience more than anything. Yes, it can be annoying seeing it break for the first time but it’s something you can get used to. My concern with cars that old is mechanical and electrical issues. As long as the car isn’t causing issues in those areas, you got a solid car.
I’ve had issues with the VSA light going on two separate times and both times it was when the battery was dying. I have no idea why that is connected but it was. What did yours end up being?
My 2004 Acura TL bought new: windshield wiper motor and current drain in Navi system fixed free under warranty. A/C compressor, hood struts and timing belt at year 14. Audio amp this year. That’s it. Always synthetic oil. Always garaged. Of course, after all these years I’ve only put 55K Miles on, so there is that.
My dash started cracking at 75k. The TL is a great car but man smh. I also have a 2000 maxima w/leather as with 245k and the dash is still in great condition.
I wouldn't replace the cover of the cup holder. Also about the cracked dash, I went to ebay and got a dash cover for 50 bucks i think. Still driving it right now. 06 with 143K miles. Had a new paint job 2 yrs ago.
I have a 06 and I wish I had the 08 type S. But overall yes this car honestly does have it that happens to it because it’s a heavy engine. I’ve replaced literally everything at this point lol. The only thing I haven’t is the transmission which isn’t so bad right now. I highly recommend replacing trans filter (hard to replace), and 3rd 4th gear pressure switches. It makes a world of difference. All the mounts should be replaced (6 in total). Timing belt and water pump Ofcourse by 110k. My TL is 185k bought for 6k and atleast 8k over 6 years of maintaince. (Mine was not taken care of well by previous owners) I also spent 500 on a 10.1 inch Tesla Navi which is amazing. Overall I love this car and 14k in total for around what I will hope to be a 10 year ownership of the car. Not so bad!
All cars need to be FIXED, so you have to ask yourself is it worth it for you. If you sell and buy another used car, you dont know what problems it will have on top of paying Vout 2-4 grand for another one... TL are great cars, my friend has one. #FixIT
I have a 2006 Acura TL and you can not find a more reliable car. The cup holder thing is not worth fixing. There are videos on how to replace your serpentine belt $20 and timing belt/water pump kit $200. Easy car to work on. Mine still has the original exhaust and there is no rust for a 15yr old car. I change my oil and did a 3x3 transmission flush. Coolant change was easy. Take the opportunity to learn how to fix things. A new TL will cost you $700/month payment so if you are serious about saving money you will keep the car and put the savings away.
163 on mine. Passenger door got stuck locked. Nothing would open it. Had to rip panel off to get at door actuator. Transmission light once flashed D bit after doing Ecu reset went away but slight shimy occasionally in 4th gear at real low rpm. Going do transmission fluid dump 3qts and refill. Knock on wood that’s about it as odd from normal maintenance. Ecu reset may fix the vsa light. Look into Mods forever page. He has all the common TL fixes.
Really Simple. Make sure everything is off radio lights etc. put key in ignition to position 2. (Do not crank it over. While in position 2 hold gas pedal To the floor for 35 seconds. Turn key to off. Take foot off gas. Restart engine and drive. That resets to factory. Ghoul notice car pick up a lot faster and smoother shifting.
I've never owned an acura brand ,I always had honda accord, had fbo 2014 accord ,sold it bought a 2002 toyota tundra v8 with 175K miles, due to poor mpg lol sold it and bought a acura tl 2008 base with 76K miles for 8000$ cash in hand from a old lady, one onwer since 2008. Like brand new,I was shocked how new it looked Such a nice car.
Anyone have a problem where there car gets stuck in parking even after pressing the brakes to unlock the lock for the shifter to shift out of parking? I been trying to find someone who’s had this issue and who have fixed it. I already checked all my fuses and replaced the brake light switch which were some of the common things it could have been but weren’t in my case. By the way I have a 07 TL automatic
Michael Miller yeah but they could’nt figure it out. I’ll be taking it elsewhere though but just would like some info on what my problem could be before going out to a shop so that I don’t pay for something I don’t need or that won’t fix my problem
It's a great car overall. I even added RTX mags looks nicer. I find it kind of funny/ ironic that I have the exact same minor problems he described on my 2004 TL . LOL ( VSA sensor , cupholder , dashboard cracks ... etc )
Dude i promise fixing my 06 Acura TL on my own was way cheaper than taking it to the shop. I could of bought a starter for 120 or under... then its removing the battery, battery tray, air box, and 2 bolts on the starter and trust me i know the heat i live in Jax, FL. But unless your able to work on it yourself or have a buddy who can help it can be a money pit. But that small cosmetic stuff just RU-vid it. The center console isnt hard to und screw. But ebay motors have decent prices for their parts. I have a white 06 acura tl that had 20in rims, super cracked dash, had to replace the coilovers and rims. Flock your dash or look into getting someone to do a (professional) 580$ and a friend were able to put tien coilovers, but its a smooth ride. But if your looking for a new car just remember the Acura TL has a good resale value. But i say keep it. My engine and transmission is running primo, change your fluids and make sure to change your spark plugs and belts (sepatine belt, timing chain, oil, transmission fluid, i love my car, but i knew in the beginning it was going to be a project car because the suspension was non-existant and it just seemed the owner stopped showing it love. But the engine was well kept and so was the transmission. But i absolutely love driving i
@@mikemillermph I just feel that you have a great car, unless you like payments than go for it. I know that the TL is my second car and even if I spend alittle here and there for the most part it's been reliable and a pleasure to drive....
Cup holder cover breakin... common in those cars. Dashboard cracking.... also common This is why u do your research before purchasing a car. However the VSA malfunction not sure about that one. 😂
Cheaper to keep er. But now simpler cars appeal more. All these complicated driving systems and traction control and all that starts to break is not fun.
I own the same your Acura that you have keep the car is a definitely a great daily driver and buy something else if you choose to the cars reliable Steph you talking about his minor problems.
Exactly i had 180,000 on mine and I’ve gotten it stuck in mud jumped it like all 4 wheels off the ground i split the rotors on it becuse i drove like a nascar driver every time i drove it was the 6 speed manual give it to a 16 yr old and you can imagine the shit i i put that thing through i ended up money shifting it one night hitting second from 6th trying to downshift to 4th the valves were mashed and i drove it another 8,000 miles and it still did 155 with that shit happening plus the vsa system was fucked it’s a wheel speed senso
I myself just bought a 2008 TL 70K miles, only thing wrong with the car is about a 4 inch crack in passenger side dash and a small crack in the driver side rear seat, other than that this car is amazing. and gave 6450.00 for it, Added a Takeda C.A.I and a Magnaflow Street series exhaust. Added about 30 H.P. so right at 305 now can't wait for the twin turbo's next year woot. If done right it'll make around 700-800 H.P. just enough for me to laugh at almost everything stock and all these young pups and their tuner's they think are so awesome hehe.
grats on the tl but i dont think a cai and exhaust would net 30hp... maybe with hpfc/pcd (precats) and a jpipe, 3rd cat delete, no resonator or mid muffler, and good mufflers. not much space in the engine bay for two turbos, you would have to relocate the battery, maybe delete PS and AC, and get a smaller radiator or move the radiator support. and if your transmission is auto forget it lol itll blow up at 500-600. j32 has to watch for compression ratios and ring lands, rods too. and make sure you have a good tuner. best of luck and let us know how it goes
@@johnriggs3143 most of the boosted 3g TL builds ive seen use either comptech or gerzy's SC kit, both of which are about $4k. im sure you could put a garrett turbo on but not super experienced with boost so youll have to do the research. again be very careful with the stock block and transmission, especially the auto which are glass to begin with. J series doesnt have the best HP/TQ gain per dollar, but one day im going to build my block from the ground up too lol
@@BurntSofa oh yeah bro, I'm going all out forged everything so I don't blow the block lol. There's a video out with a guy that has a built block with a comptech sc on his netting 665 hp to the wheels so I'm hoping to duplicate that. All my friends are like why a tl? I'm like why not? where I'm from not a lot of people have tuner cars. They all have mustangs, camaro's , vettes or challenger's and very few of them mod them out because they think they are fast enough. So I want a tuner family car that smokes them just for giggles. The hard part is selling my wife on the idea XD.
@@mikemillermph yes its the drive by wire part of the system that create false readings like wheel speed, which when you are driving causes the car to pull from side to side.
Ohh interesting thanks so much for the info! Is this something I could easily install on my own or do you think it would be better to go with a local mechanic?
