The Superbird being "unfinished" does not really surprise me. Mopars were soo hot in 2006/07 and climbing when the restoration of that car started, even missing its original drivetrain a hemi 4 speed aero car with a 'lil racing pedigree would have warranted a big money restoration. A restoration that made alot less sense to finish off after the '08 crash with either the money drying up or the car bleeding too much value and sold to an investor in '09 who did nothing with it but wait for it to appreciate into a profit.

The whole real vs fake thing is so funny to me. It's like a kit car Cobra versus an original. The better car if done up right would be the modern kit Cobra. If you want the experience of what an original was like then by all means spend million/s on one. If you want the better car to drive you can spend 5% of that. It more like you are buying a story versus buying a better vehicle.

The issues on the superbird are extremely common. As someone that has worked on a ton of restored cars I found that a large number of shops either lacked the knowledge to repair the vehicles they restored they could make them look pretty but that is where it stopped. The other scenario I came across was owners electing to do the finishing to save money and would get it good enough to go to the parade but never finished things. I couldn't count the number of aftermarket a/c systems and little stuff like electric windows and seat controls that never worked.

*raises hand* I worked in a classic car dealer as the ONLY mechanic for a pool of about 50 cars, 30 in and 30 out a month. I'm surprised that Superbird wasn't sold by my ex-boss. Specialized in '70 Chevelle SS, tried to not touch anything else unless it made a fat profit. Which meant it was a cheap piece of shit with lipstick on it. Old American cars post restoration are the worst things in the world to work on, it's so rare to find them done right and proper. It's funny that the survivor cars he rarely bought were actually the best cars out of the lot. Says a lot about most restoration jobs...

@chriscollins550
@chriscollins550 2 года назад
You shouldn't daily drive any exotic car's, they are really not designed to be driven every day. Best thing with them is to run them up on a weekly basis and that's it. Mclaren car's are basically not a car to be driven much at all. Even the famous McLaren f1 road car with a BMW engine after five thousand miles went wrong. I've now done a few of those Cummins timing cover leaks. It's actually not the cover itself that leaks, but the seal between the timing case and the block. The gasket squeezes out from between the two and leaves a gap for oil. If you have it this far apart it really wouldn't make sense not to replace the timing case gasket. All you have to do is remove the cam out the front of the engine, oil pump, water pump, and then the case comes off.

As a b-body Mopar owner with Rallye gauges. The speedo cables don't clip in correctly. I think that BRUTAL fixed suspension rattled it out. Nobody cares about shaving miles off of a restomod, rebodied racecar with a non numbers matching drivetrain. People don't go into the steering wheel to fix the horn because the horn buttons (roadrunner logo) are plastic and always break (as Wizard found out).

Appreciate you and may 2022 bring You and your Family much Health, Wealth and happiness.

You also really want to replace the oil pan instead of just replacing the gasket. If there's even a spot of rust on it it will eventually leak. Probably sooner then later. It's a double wall pan so the second there's a spot of rust it rusts out entirely between the two layers.

What a great video! Today we learned that Daniel is proving to be yet another valuable asset to the team, the dynamic between Hoovie and Wizard is just as comedic as ever, the Dodge, 348 and Superbird only needed small repairs, and 12+ year old timing belts miraculously still held for 500 more miles, avoiding catastrophic engine failure.

I wish I could find a shop in Massachusetts with honest owner and employees like car wizards. I need work done on 2 cars that I keep putting off because most shops try to take advantage of people. It sucks how much I love cars and how dishonest the car industry is. The dishonesty of dealers and shops takes all the fun out of buying and repairing vehicles.

We have a 2005 Cummins that has almost 200,000 miles on it. Batteries just died on it thanks to a cold snap. The truck has been good overall, the only thing that has been replaced are water pumps and the ac system had to be redone a couple of years ago. The interior is not great with a small hole in the drivers seat but other than that it is a great work truck. We only have the base model though so its manual locks and windows. Would love to get the locks done because its a long way to reach across the cab but other than that its good. Tow a camper with it a few times a year and it does a good job of that.
