Zombies had a very strong start, but it wasn't without a couple oddities. Today we'll look at ten of the more bizarre aspects of World at War's Zombies mode
Funny because at the time everyone hated the original Nacht zombie sounds... I remember everyone laughing at them and saying they sounded like pigs/dogs. The change in sounds after Verruckt was welcomed by everyone.
I really loved how the zombies in World at War Nacht Der Untoten sounded. Obviously because they were quickly thrown together sound effects but they sound really good. I love them.
Ever since BO2, I always thought they sounded like robots. Especially new cods. I absolutely love Nacht noises man. THAT is what a zombie sounds like man.
For anyone who didn't understand number 1, there was a glitch (possible easter egg) where touching Peter McCain's body after you knocked it down would kill you instantly. If I had to guess why this happens, it's probably because the game sees his body as an out-of-bounds object, so it kills you upon touching it
Was this patched? I felt like a psycho cause I KNEW it happened to me in an online lobby one time and I could never recreate it years later. None of my buddies knew about it
@@fliper975 This glitch cannot occur in the black ops 1 version or the black ops 3 version. It's exclusive to WaW, and it's difficult to pull off because you have to get his feet to get stuck on the railing.
It's for sure a glitch. What's happening here is that the physics on his body are flipping out when he's on the ground. So when you get too close to him in WaW, the "impact" of his body ends up killing you and will cause a campaign death in co-op mode. Not intended by any means as there's no code for peter to kill you.
@@n1njab0t78 I had tried a few times in BO1, but I figured it was exclusive to WaW. An out of bounds hitbox being in the playable area would insta-kill a player without godmode on. I've played a LOT of WaW on console and PC. Just not a lot of shi-no-numa, it's my least favorite map. Thanks for the clarification boss.
The whole thing feels like an IRL creepypasta, the fact that he hops up and kills you instantly and ends the game on co-op as well is so fucking odd and terrifying I love it.
One of the major problems with nacht was the zombie sound effects didn’t sound like it was coming from a specific zombie nor direction. They always sounded like they were on top of you. Like a surround sound almost
@@theGODZILLA150 Well it would be hard to do Bo1 oddities because it’s too polished for that kind of thing. While WaW on the other hand still has a lot more to uncover
@@theGODZILLA150 Suggestion for Bo1: on the WaW remasters, whenever someone is using a Double Barrel or Trench Gun, you can hear it from anywhere around the map
@@theGODZILLA150 I dont know about zombies because I only ever could play the launch maps so I played kino. but there is the knocking man and the dog glitch. For multiplayer on town if you noclip under the map the kitchens (at least on bo2 I haven't checked for bo1 tho) are duplicated and upside down. and they have physics
You can actually get negative points in another manner and i originally found it in shi no numa. Buy a perk like you said then activate the electric trap in any hut. Perks are really near the switches so you can get negative points on shi no numa. Pretty clutch for buying a perk with just enough points and getting the eletric trap to cover you during the animation🤘🏽 Great vid man🔥
And there’s another way I know to get negative points on Shi no numa (the PS3 version at least). You buy a perk, then spin the box. I’ve tried it more recently on the PC version, but I don’t think it works there, so I’m not sure if it’s patched out, or specific to that version of the map
Nacht was scary back in the day. I turned 13 in december 2008 and i remember playing this with friends at their house after school. Split-screen gaming is nowadays a long lost glory
WAW zombies is still a little scary to me now, even with the insane amount of time I spent playing the game. WAW zombies, solo, with headphones is a better horror experience than the majority of actual horror games.
For people wondering about why to not touch Peter is because it will kill you instantly due to the fact he’s considered a “out of map entity”. In co-op if you do this it’ll just play the campaign restart
Verukt was super cool because it was the only map that had zombies start out in the morning sun rise. Gave it a very cool, hopeful, yet terrifying aesthetic for me as a kid.
That’s pretty interesting, thanks for letting me know. I always knew Verruckt had it, but I never noticed that Shi no Numa had it too until just recently
@@theGODZILLA150 that mechanic is one of the reasons jug is glitched in Der riese. The Waff doesn’t take away jug, rather it takes away health regen for the whole game
Just from watching the first couple seconds of the video I'll say this: I'm primarily a BO2 player. It was my first experience with COD zombies and I'll cherish the game forever honestly, it has some of my favorite maps to date. Just recently though, I went back to play World at War. It can be very clunky and obviously outdated at times, but a lot of the time with old games such as this, there's some sort of almost nostalgic feel to them, even if you have never played the game before. Despite it's clunkyness, it can be a very enjoyable experience, and specifically Der Riese reminds me of when I used to watch my older brother and his friends play Zombies. I don't think they played the WaW version, I'm pretty sure it was the BO1 version, but it still reminds me of those good times. Another thing is that the Trench Gun has to be one of my favorite weapons in the game, especially when packed. Most shotguns in BO1 and BO2 feel like peashooters to me, especially when you're anywhere past round 8 or something. But the Trench Gun is honestly one of the most satisfying guns to use in my experience, even when un-packed it's pretty good until at least round 15. And when you pack-a-punch it, it's effectiveness is increased tenfold, and has a lot more ammo in a single clip. It may not be nearly as powerful as some other guns, like The Reaper or even the Spatz, but boy oh boy is is way more satisfying to just mow through a horde of zombies with it. And better yet, it works pretty much the exact same way in BO1 as it does in WaW. BO1 is the superior version simply because of the bug with Jug and the Wunderwaffe, but if you aren't using the Wunderwaffe you don't need to worry about that. I feel like the reason I like World at War is at least similar to the reason why myself and many others enjoy older games like Super Mario 64, they've just got this charm to them. Something else I want to add about the negative points glitch: It isn't specific to Verruckt, and isn't even specific to the bouncing betties. It's just due to the fact that perk machines will only take your points upon you finishing the drinking animation, so you could do this with doors or traps as well, so long as there's a perk machine close enough. It doesn't work on Der Riese because they changed the way perks work, and for obvious reasons this doesn't work on Nacht. But this sort of thing also works on Shi No Numa, if you buy a perk from the Comm Room and quickly activate the electric trap you can achieve this same effect. I have a feeling this same thing would work on Nacht if it had any perk machines though
I always thought back when it came out Verrückt's zombie sounds were only gonna be for that map. I didn't like the change, but I figured it was meant to be in keeping with the Verrückt (meaning crazy) theme, with it being set in an asylum and all. I kinda hoped we'd get new sounds every map.
I think due to the corridors of Verruckt, it would've made sense to keep the sounds there. Shi No Numa and Der Reise, not so much due to them being out in the open for the most part where there would be way less echo.
Loved this video! I think the nacht zombie sounds always sounded the best to me, they truly sounded undead. And Peter always was the creepiest thing when shi no Numa was first out
WaW was really special. The multiplayer was my first ever COD multiplayer. Der Riese was so good especially from 2011-2014 because you’re either playing with some OG guys who love the game or a modder who is going to do some crazy stuff. Such thrilling times for a 14 year old me.
Zombies in WaW was a "last minute" addition to the game, so I am guessing like you did and used those "weird zombie sounds" because they put it together quickly
I noticed the zombie sounds are a little different through the other three maps as well. Same effect but I think there was a few additional screams or grunts
This video makes me feel old when he said none of you have probably played this, when in fact every person I knew was playing this game religiously when it came out
great video man, I think there's a lot of value in playing the original maps, playing a waw map with everyone using gobblegums on bo3 just doesnt feel the same as playing waw maps on the original engine with all of its quirks
I have recently gotten all the world at war dlcs just for zombies and I don’t regret it I love the weapons and the challenge and everything about world at war
Bruh hearing original the Nachct zombies just now sounded so cursed that it made me light headed and feel sick like I was gonna pass out. That's terrifying
I remember hearing the devs were going to cut the zombie mode entirely but chose to keep it maybe that’s why for the zombie noises too. Nacht was a metaphorical and physical testing ground map then from there they went here you go 3 more map packs for you
I thought knocking Peter down was a commonly known thing. When I used to play it back in the day, a bunch of matches started with everyone throwing their grenades at him to knock him down.
for #2 the [REDACTED] it's in Black Ops 3 if you use a mod menu to give yourself the weapon, but it is heavily broken compared to it's waw counterpart in fact it looks disgusting your fingers are all mangled and the damage is reduced to that of the waw Colt... also this video came out on my birthday wasn't there to see it tho
The fountain water effect looks like it might be the result of reusing water stuff related to it's use in the campaign where I assume they coded it to display a certain particle effect if certain explosives were detonated within it, just because the splash is large enough to look like it's for one of the missions set on a beach. That's just my guess though, looks cool regardless.
Waw was my introduction into the cod series when I was only 3 or 4. My Uncle thought it'd be funny to let two toddlers play nacht all by themselves without much context. I don't remember really being afraid though I was more confused. Like I knew the zombies we're forcing their way in to get me and I had to fend them off with guns because I saw my Uncle play in his living room a few times before, but it still felt strange to me. When I was around that age I had a brief moment of peace in my life cause I wasn't particularly afraid of anything not even the dark bothered me when I had to go to bed. I obviously wasn't a baby by then but I hadn't started school either and didn't go many places besides a few of my relatives homes and was oblivious to a lot of things around me.
wtf I didn’t check ur sub count after until I finished it and I am upset thst it isn’t higher. I thought this was from like a bigger zombies youtuber since the quality of the video is amazing
I always loved how the zombie sounds echoed through Nacht. I feel like later maps really lost the scaling of the threat effect by changing out the zombie sounds. Though it really only would've worked for Verrukt or Kino seeing that both were also almost exclusively indoors.
Little fact about the REDACTED(default weapon), it was also in cod4 and mw2(which came out later), probably used as test weapon and how to implement them into the game, chances are in WaW it's just a carry over from cod4 since both use the same engine, and treyarch had to rush the game out the door
They actually fixed #9 in Der Riese. It's pretty funny, all they did was change one character in the code. Instead of multiplying points scale (which is 1) by 2 ( *=2 ) they set it to 2 ( ==2 )
There's also a rare instance where buying grenades on the wall in nacht could put you into negative points, I had it happen once and could never recreate it
Fun/odd fact, the Natch Der Untoten zombie sounds are still used by another group. On Roblox (call me cringe/a child, idrc-), MMC Zombies has a Natch map. In this map, it includes things like perks and even Pack, but even included the original Natch zombie sounds
another interesting glitch. If you are playing multiplayer on der riese and bleed out and die you'll respawn with no perks or guns. However if you have enough points to do so upon respawing you can pack a punch the starting weapon but the developers didn't consider the possibility of the player having no gun so they give you a second default m1911 as soon as you start pack a punching the first
The Nacht Der Untoten sounds were also different in the bonus mode trailer. They were altered for the final game. They sound very creepy in the trailer. It seems like it was toned down for the final game.
Wait wait wait what the heck was number 2?? Also, some honorable mentions from me would be getting 3 guns before mule kick existed on Der Riese, the *nearly* invincible coop glitch on Der Riese (the easiest glitch ever), and the invisible/ invincible glitch on Nacht Der Untoten (may have been more than 1 spot even)
Maybe nacht der un toten and die machina are the "origin" zombies for those worlds like they were the first zombies so that's how they sounded when recently turned?
It's also possible to get more than 2 weapons. On Shi No Numa if you pick up a weapon from the box while drinking a perk you get the weapon without losing your other weapon
