I don't really understand the "trash system" in the US and in Korea. I mean, how do people recycle? Here in Spain you have to separate your trash in different bags (paper, plastics, organic, etc) and then you have to take it out and put it in different dumpsters that there are in almost every street.

In Brazil we just put all the trash in a trash bag, and then put where the bus thing that come pick trash pick it. Like is different where they pick the trash in every place, but is really just that. Some people recycle, but is reaaaally optional

+Isabela Pereira Costamilan de Luna I think it depends by state (or city?) though. Where are you from? In Santa Catarina we have two different trash bags, one for "general" trash and one for recycling. There are two different trucks that come for each trash.
@isabelapereiracostamilande6162
+elyonum i live in santa Catarina also (floripa), and i live in a apartment so i just put my trash with the others and the guy that controls the trash come pick it up and then out where the bis thingy comes to pick it. We also have one to normal and recycling but is optional, if I want to put all that things that can (and should) be recycled in the normal I can.

The thing about the trash bags is what we do in my country. We also have the big rubbish bins and recycling you can take out onto the sidewalk for the rubbish truck, so both options are available, though you don't have to pay for the bin option. The bags you have to pay for at your local supermarket, etc.

Hello Megan, Great video! In some parts of the U.S. there are new technologically advanced garbage sorters that sort all the trash, seperating everything from metal, plastic, glass etc. Then, each sorted item is then recycled. This is done in a large facility that recieves the trucked in garbage.

@sheyuhh6429 8 лет назад
+light yagami I found out that the college that I want to go to(Underwood International aka Yonsei university) actually offers scholarships for those that need it, or for those that have good enough academic abilities. So basically if you are really in need and if you are accepted to the college, they will help you. If you are academically exceeding--greatly exceeding-- they will also help you out. There is another college called Chosun which also offers some sort of scholarship. But it's kind of in the southern area of South Korea. It's not that close to any major cities... Hope you can go off of some of this info. I'll let you know if I find more

I was born in Korea, but my family moved to America when I was 3. So I grew up here in America. I’m 100% Korean and I’m 5’10” when I was younger in Korea my family wanted to buy me clothes and shoes. Well let’s just say I’m glad at the time I was a size 0 to a 3-4 depending on length. My aunt had to get boots made for me, and the clothes fit my waist size but length was ridiculously funny on me. So as much as I love the clothes there nothing fits someone as tall as me. So a part of me is glad we moved or I would’ve been screwed in the clothes department there. I love my homeland though and I miss my family so much. Thanks for sharing your videos and giving people an idea of what Korea is like.

Ha! The trash situation is funny. In Japan (at least in my area), the trash bags are different colors as well. One thing I learned is that all the bottles, weather its a box, can, or plastic, had to be rinsed out before you put them in the bag. They actually returned them b/c my roommates didn't wash them out.

In Korea, you should share or you are seen as just selfish & unfriendly. They will offer you some even if they don't want you to have any. Also, if you do want some, you should not look too eager or you will seem greedy. You should decline 3 times before you accept, even if you don't want any. So, they will keep offering to share with you about a hundred times even if you've declined about a hundred times.

Absolutely, when you live in another city/country, you just don't know but get adapted to new life and when you go back to your country, you're expecting to do or see same things you do while you're in another country and you realize that you completely adapted to that country's lifestyle. And also your friends, people and even your family judges you from being ANORMAL but don't worry, you are not anormal, you just adapted.

LOL, come to Brussels, it's the same system, but we have 4 different types of bags: black for normal trash, yellow for paper, blue for metal & plastic, and green for garden waste (flowers, tree leaves,....) And oh: you need to throw your glass bottles and big stuff yourself at special places. I live in the Japanese expats' neighbourhood, and they're getting crazy about that :D

I am seriously obsessed with your videos. So relatable and so entertaining! THE TRASH. it's the most dreaded thing!!!! I only take my trash out at night because I don't want people to see me mess things up, haha. Keep up the videos! I'd love to hear about how your perception of Korea has changed over the last few years, especially going from being a teacher to a creative/business woman. Enjoy the holidays and stay warm!

In Argentina you just put all your trash in whichever bag you want and you leave it outside your house, or in a dumpster (there's one in every block). Then, a truck comes and picks it up. The day of the week depends on where you live. It's all arranged by the municipality.

Australia's the best when it comes to trash, you get two bins (one for waste and another for recycling) and the garbage trucks come and empty them once a week you don't have to pay a single thing
@pendayang
@pendayang 8 лет назад
the food part is like that for Asian culture in general. When it's time to eat at work it's "embarrassing" to the other person if you were to ask them "do you want to eat?" instead you just go "come eat"

The trash thing works pretty similar here in the UK. You buy normal rubbish bags and then you have to order orange ones for recyclable stuff and the binmen pick everything up every wednesday

I live in FL and don't pay for the trash service. The city takes care of that. Also don't have to pay for the trash bins. The city provides those for free also. When I first moved down here, one of our bins was broken and they replaced it for us. We have a bin for garbage, recycle and for grass/tree branches/leaves, etc. People apparently do a lot of yard work in FL I guess! In NJ, it was completely. We had to buy our own bins, but still didn't pay for the service.

In Portugal you just buy trash bags for non recycable stuff and put it on a certain spot and people come pick it up to take it to a fabric. The recyclables just have containers all around the city, for example I have 4 spots with recycable containers in my street xD

You're too dang cute! Yay mixed girls who love culture and language, me too :). I've been asked if I'm a dozen different ethnicities other than mixed weekly since childhood so that's probably where the appreciation and curiosity about culture came from ha. I have a BA in Mandarin with a minor in Japanese but you know after graduation I got lost on dis boy instead of following my dreams travelling and immersing myself to increase fluency and experience. Recently I gave him some Megan wisdom and said "I don't live my life for you so... see you". I might just get out of Canada now and see the world. Have you seen or heard of many programs focused on teaching other languages like Chinese, Japanese or even French in Korea? I'm so glad I found your channel, I swear you're my new spirit guide ;)

In Europe the government pays to pick up your trash. You just separate your trash into paper, plastics, organic, etc and throw it into the dumpsters that are placed around the neighbourhoods, and then they come and pick it up

Ok for some who are confused,the trash system in U.S. varies state to state (even city-city for many). Shes grown up in a suburb and that system she describes is common there,whereas me (in city dweller) most trash is collected via the state--probably by taxes.Certain stuff like giant dumpster bins,furniture,and battery waste are done by another collector OR elsewhere place you need to personally bring it to.I know this vids from last yr but I thought I'd help.
@KeiraA333
@KeiraA333 8 лет назад
Recyclables have their own bin nowadays. However you can just dump ALL of them together. Food waste is considered "trash" but there are 'compstables' bins too--you just need to somehow get one.. .(honastly. I just chuck all but meat products in the yard to fertilize plants/feed wildlife)

The food thing is so real. The church I go to most of the people there are Filipinos and they would see me eat and just ask me am I full do I want more and send me home with cakes and pies and other foods. They probably didn't want the food to get to waste but I thought it was wierd at first but now I'm use to it and I do the same thing.

about the trash: we have the exact same system in switzerland. we also have the bags you buy at the supermarket but you only get them if you ask for them, they're never displayed. and the different days are super confusing, I've lived in the same place all my life and I still don't know when the food waste truck comes or when the regular trash truck comes x)
@CherryVanityRawr
@CherryVanityRawr 8 лет назад
The funny thing about the trash though is that a lot of cities in America are starting to do their trash like that, like here in NYC we buy our trash bags and the city provides trash removal so we don't pay for that but we like legally HAVE to separate our recyclables and regular trash or you could get fined for it haha.
