Thanks for that, Luke - I'd agree. It's funny - I used to live downtown as well and loved the Duke. I have great memories there celebrating a few milestone birthdays! Big fan of Red House, too.
How is public transport system in Kingston? I heard in Canada in general it is not that good in terms of frequency of busses. For a Queen's University student is it better to rent a room for 500 and have to use a bus, or rent for 650 close to the Princess Street (for example) but walk?
@@Rocky-vu3hh It really depends on the city - some (especially student ones) generally have a decent system in place. I honestly never really rode the bus because I lived downtown/within walking distance of downtown my whole time there. That said, I know people who relied on the bus and it was just fine for their time living there. As for your example question, if you can find a place closer to downtown/campus/city park that works for you, is safe, clean etc. do it. The experience of walking everywhere (campus, the hub, downtown, waterfront) without having to completely rely on the bus to do everything is worth the increased cost of rent. That's my opinion, though. It also depends on where your friends live, where you work/study/play, etc. Also, keep in mind that the bus is free with your student card (you pay for a very reduced yearly plan in your student fees) so that doesn't technically eat into monthly expenses IF you had to take it every day. Have visited there a few times while vacationing in the 1000 Islands (New York side). Nice historic city. Reminds me of a northern version of the southern cities of Wilmington, NC, Charleston, SC and Savannah, GA.
Glad to hear you enjoy Kingston! Never been to Charleston but heard great things. As for the 1000 Islands, we've always wanted to take the Wolfe Island Ferry and then head into NY through Cape Vincent - then circle around and cross again near Boldt Castle. There's loads to see in that area.
@@Penguinandpia Worth a trip to Charleston if you ever get a chance. Lots of history and great food and drink (beaches there also). I'm in the Raleigh, NC area but have a 2nd home at the coast in Wilmington. Wilmington is similar to Kingston so always feel at home there when visiting. 1000 Islands is a favorite summer retreat to get away from the summer heat in NC. We also spend a little time in Ottawa when up that way.
There are free guided tours of the Town Hall, visit Portsmouth Harbour, the Kingston Pen and Fort Henry. I lived in Kingston for one year and loved it.

We just got home from there today, Canada day, 2019. I’ve been to Kingston several times, because it’s not far from my hometown, Toronto, where I’ve lived my entire life..... my two biggest passions in life are historical architecture and the paranormal, and going to Kingston, I got everything I love and then some. While it’s absolutely beautiful this time of year, packed with thousands of tourists from all around the world, my husband and I went for a walk last night after the evening boat cruise. The streets were almost empty, as we were surrounded by all these gorgeous restored heritage buildings, and I swear to God I could feel the energy coming off the land and from the buildings, the resonance of hundreds of years of history when the British and the French first invaded the area and fought over that land, slaughtering all the indigenous peoples. Vicious acts like that leaves a scar on the land and in the structures, especially since It is also known as the lime stone city, because every structure, at least almost to re-structure is made out of lime stone after most of the city was destroyed in the 1840s after a vicious fire. Not many people know that lime stone is an excellent conductor of paranormal energy, almost acting as a battery of sorts, that can amplify paranormal energy, not to mention the energy caused By such human tragedy during the war in which the natives were slaughtered. Something like that just doesn’t vanish, it leaves behind a mark and an energy that never goes away. Not everyone is sensitive to it, but I do believe that everyone is capable of feeling it if they concentrate. As I stood in the courtyard behind City Hall, which during the day is usually a flea market or a farmers market, it’s a flat, Sharon Square made of lime stone. Just for the briefest of moments I swear to God I could hear people screaming and crying, I could hear what you could best described as an Indian war cry, and Indian ceremonial traditions being played out, yet there was nobody there except myself and my husband. It’s sent such a cold chill up my spine, because I’ve always been able to pick up on these sort of things ever since I was a little kid, it used to scare the hell out of me when I could see and hear things that no one else could, and last night was no exception. I could hear Musket fire, cannon fire, the sounds of war, of amend screening as they are dying, just absolute chaos and the feeling of anger mixed with sorrow unlike anything you could possibly imagine. It permeated every part of me, and I just had to get out of there, as my husband looked at me like I was crazy, because he doesn’t believe that I can sense these things. History is indeed alive and well in Kingston, and if you are like myself, and open to a World not many can see or hear, I guarantee you’re in for one heck of a surprise, and although it did scare me, it also drew me in like a magnet. I have this incredible urge to go back, as I would love to study in detail exactly what happened between the natives and the warring Europeans. To the average layperson, it’s an absolutely beautiful charming city, quite small, with only about 162,000 people, but with a history on like no other. I had no idea it was of such historical significance in Canadian history, but now that I do know, I am definitely going back there this year. It was only a two hour and 20 minute drive, so if any of you have a chance to go, by all means don’t hesitate, I guarantee you’ll fall in love with it, particularly the downtown waterfront, which is like stepping back in time. Each building perfectly preserved, looking exactly as it did when they were first built in the 1840s and 1850s. It is a history buff’s Paradise, and the paranormal investigators paradise too. If you’re anything like me, you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about if you go to visit it. Especially if you hang around downtown just after midnight, where there’s not a soul in sight, but thousands of souls wondering aimlessly through the area, many of them lost and confused, having no idea what had happened to them. The land has been occupied as far back as 9000 years by the native peoples, so you can imagine it has a very unique and distinctive feel to it. Even if you’re not into the history or the paranormal, then you’ll absolutely love the world-class restaurants and boutiques, it has a lot to offer for such a small city, so by all means go there, and if any of you have experienced what I did last night, please let me know, I’d be really interested to hear What you experienced.
I was bored so I decided to watch a video on my city because I don’t think there will be many people there actually is from pride play a lot by him I think you should check out some of the schools they are like my school probably busy I have not too many schools

Is it really? Hmm, I don't think I knew that! If I'm not mistaken Regi is the oldest English Catholic HS in Canada - so Kingston has quite a bit more history than people think.
Hey Nico - This is Eric writing this one - I lived in Kingston for 7 years. There's so few people because this was shot in winter and on a week day. ALSO - we try to not film people because of privacy. Trust me - the city is very popular in all seasons - summer especially. It's very much a youthful/student town (sorry, locals - but it's largely true) so during the school year the population explodes. Related to that, the nightlife (as a student) is excellent. You have loads of options - from simple bars to the odd club, plus the breweries, classic pubs (my favourite), places with live music, nicer places for cocktails, etc. It won't take long as an exchange student to get acquainted with beautiful Kingston. Just remember to respect the city - and I have little doubt you will have a great exchange experience.

Hey Simran, for sure we can offer a bit of help! There are plenty of hotels/inns right downtown near the waterfront, shopping, and restaurants. We don't know your budget but I'd recommend the Holiday Inn or the Delta - they are right down at the historic waterfront. Ah, gotcha. In that case I'd go to the St. Lawrence Accommodation services website to see what they recommend. Beyond that I know Queen's U has an "On/Off Campus Rooming" FB Group where people post rooms for rent. Perhaps SLC has a similar group you can join and post in?
Honestly, I would disagree. If you like nature/exercise, the entire waterfront is free with trails, parks, and pier. For art, the Agnes Etherington is free. For the cost of a pint, you can get live music at The Merchant or enjoy a brewery. Tickets to a Fronts game are 27 bucks. Yes sure, history CAN be boring - but the tours or old attractions don't require you to be really wealthy. But of course, all that really depends on what you're into and your personal interests.
