The bride should have discussed the budget with her mother. She should have been willing to pay the difference for her full budget. Not all dresses need to be really expensive. Kleinfelds carries upper price dresses.

Agreed. Perhaps the groom-to-be of the first bride should postpone the wedding for 2 or 3 years until the bride grows up. Otherwise I predict big problems ahead. 😢

you can put a price on it regardless of who's paying. tell me a dress i love is $10,000 and suddenly i love that dress a whole lot less. that's an entire damn car, wtf.

I agree and hate Pnina dresses. They are not only ugly but expensive too.

I like *SOME* Pnina dresses. But I do have over-the-top, extravagant taste. With that said, I am not a fan of the see-through bodice. I don't really understand why that's popular. It looks more boudoir than bridal. And not in a good way. That's just my opinion though.

I think wedding shows and magazines have created too much emphasis on the dress so they can charge a premium for them. Like the jewelry industry does with the engagement ring. And the first time I was in a wedding, the bridal party's dresses came from Kmart.

No, my former friend did everything you said. She got her wedding dress on sale, her cake cutting gown and all of our bridesmaids dresses for wholesale price. She had her Chinese and Vietnamese one custom made for good prices too.

@@robynmurray7421 or it's traditional for the bride's family to pay? technically the tradition is the bride's family pays for the entire wedding, replacing the tradition of a dowry, but lately the bride's family just pays for the dress since that's the most expensive part.

the problem with your first point is that on this show, the producers tell you how many people to bring and who those people will be.

@@MsJubjubbird I know it’s for drama purposes, but still bringing too many people can overwhelm a bride to where she cannot make a decision on a dress and that’s not good and it takes the attention away from the bride. But still my point still stands.

The key is paying for it yourself.

Me too! I found everything I was looking for in the first and I didn't love it. The second was everything I didn't want and it was the one, lol.

I agree and some put too much money and focus on a one time dress. It is not worth it since most can careless what the bride wears.

My friends did not rent because they said they want to wear something fresh and new not something that has been worn by many people. I will buy mine too as I don’t want to wear something that has been worn by goodness knows how many people.

Being close is one thing but do you have the same taste? My late mom and I were close but she was extremely picky and has different tastes than me. She always criticized me for even my regular clothes. But sadly, my mom has passed and I can’t bring her even if I wanted to. However, I would not strain our relationship and bond over a one time dress as my bond with my mom is way more important than a one time wedding dress. The dress should not even be that important and most people don’t even care what the brides wear.

She always tried to force this closeness and she guilted me into letting her come wedding dress shopping with me even though I wanted to do it by myself or with a close friend. Because “it’s a mother’s place to go wedding dress shopping with her daughter”…. She also kept trying to cause issues with my maid of honor because I decided to plan the wedding completely by myself and I didn’t ask for anybody’s help because nobody else was paying for it so I didn’t want anyone’s opinion. My mother kept telling my father and manipulating him into thinking I wasn’t making my own decisions and it was all my made of honor. “We were trying to leave her out.” At the appointment she pointed out that the dress gave me underarm fat, that it didn’t look good on me, and I probably didn’t have the right body type for it. meanwhile it was a size 6 (I’m like a size 8) it was a ballgown, and it barely showed any skin or shape at all so to say that it wasn’t good for my body type, shocked me. she also kept reminding me that on her wedding day she was a size 4… She’s a size 24 now. Completely unnecessary. She then insisted on coming to every fitting with me where she also kept making comments. She even showed up to a fitting. She wasn’t invited to just to make comments. She didn’t pay for it, she didn’t offer to pay for it, she ruined the whole experience for me.

@@LoveMusic827Yea, I know what you mean and was overbearing and controlling. Even when I bought any regular clothes or anything, she would ask how much and then criticize me. If she did not like it, she would make me return it. It was a nightmare. I truly wonder if I would dare to bring my mom even if she were still here as she is extremely critical of what I wear. But sadly, she has passed so I no longer can bring her even if I wanted to. I feel bad for you but my mom would have been better as she hurt me in the past in regards to clothing issues. I was so hurt that I never spoke to her again. Therefore, she did some things to make up for it. From that day on, she knew not to hurt me like that again or else I would cut her out of my life. I feel bad for you though that your mom treated you like that as I can relate. I personally would pay myself as you get the power to pick what you like and not have to yield to anyone. I hope you get past it as the wedding dress should not be that important. My sister in law rented hers for a few hundred and then returned it. Now over 22 years later, she does not even remember it anymore. She said it is not that important. My late mom used to criticize my looks and all too. I guess it is just a mom thing. She puts me down if anyone compliments me too. I don’t know if she is trying to be humble or not. But her words were hurtful so I know how you feel. I hope your relationship with her gets better while she is still around.

Her comment about her fiancé was off putting. Also her sister’s comment "Because you’re that good?" was a bit rude and sarcastic.

Obviously, the mother did not raise the daughter to be obnoxious. She herself is firm but respectful, so somebody else spoiled this little girl.

Or she is just born with a bad character.
