There is a lot of dopamine related to our consumer behavior. We, the consumers, can only do so much. Most don't even want to acknowledge and educate themselves on the problem. Celebrities continue to promote their fast fashion collections. Platforms like Instagram and RU-vid favor consumerism and shopping. It feels like a losing battle. I believe it also has to start from governments. But govts want money and the fashion industry generates lots of it. 😕 Kudos for all the research you've done!

agreed - we need government regulation to uphold these brands because they won't change on their own (in this 'free market'), but we as citizens need to vote and hold government accountable to this too! It's also important to note that influencers are a brand themselves, and we have all the right to hold them to the same standards and responsibilities cause I agree I'm tired of the power celebrities/influencers have to sell out product while feeling no responsibility over the exploitation behind the scenes

I am just as furious as you are. Could you please share some tips about convincing fast-Fashion-Fans to change? Because Consumer Education is so important but Many people dont wanna inform themselves :( btw Thanks for empowering us all
@inalykowska

what i’ve done over the past year was just lead by example. myself and most of my friends are very into fashion, and i’ve just been showing them you can enjoy fashion without giving fast fashion your money, even on our budgets. other than that is i just post a lot on my insta stories with information so it’s harder for them to look away from the information that’s there, especially if they won’t inform themselves. it takes work and patience and compassion but you can change peoples minds.
@inspiroue
@inspiroue 3 года назад
I know it's upsetting :( I don't like shaming anyone into quitting fast fashion, I just focus on sharing the hard facts and articles about the shit that still happens behind the scenes, whether its ethics and workers' rights or waste and environmental impact. At the end of the day, I hope that showing how the fashion industry is intrinsically linked to racial, climate, gender injustices etc will get these 'fast fashion fans' to realize that they can't say they care about environmentalism, feminism, anti-racism etc if they keep mindlessly shopping and supporting these brands

I don't think asking sales associates is very efficient and not necessarily a sign that they "don't care." A lot of companies aren't going to be telling sales associates whether they owe severance pay, they're not going to know anything about the company's future plans or specifics about unsold inventory. That in itself could be a red flag of the company, but I wouldn't go blaming or asking the sales associates. All they're really there to do is help you find clothes and shit, and they don't get paid enough for that anyways. We should be asking these questions to higher management and holding THEM accountable.
@inspiroue
@inspiroue 3 года назад
Of course, that's not what I meant! I would never put the onus on or blame sales associates, and I should have clarified that I meant it's a quick way to get a sense of whether the brand cares about ethics/sustainability but it's not the source I rely on. Watching this back, I can see how I implied that and I should've caught it while editing (it's the ceos, higher management that profit and make the millions that should be held accountable, not the workers (from retail associates to garment workers)

Keep going ❤👏 Keep making noise ❤ The momentum is slow for sure, I agree, since societies obviously are virtually geared towards wrong, disastrous habits of a capitalistic, egocentric world. But I remain hopeful because any change starts with someone's voice & words regarding an issue.. with more & more people becoming aware & having a more sustainable mindset, things have shifted with the way companies brand themselves. It's surface level, but they'll just keep being pushed to be better businesses.

This is an important subject especially with what is going on in Myanmar! I was so disappointed to hear that it is Monsanto that is still the company that is doing this to the farmers. I no longer purchase non- organic cotton because I do not want one penny of my money going to that evil company. I think it is important to do all we can in every way partly by emailing clothing brands and telling them you are no longer shopping their brand until they change. And then we need to actually boycott their brand...stop shopping fast fashion....stop justifying your purchases. Unless you literally have not a single outfit in your wardrobe then you do not actually NEED to buy anything. And you do not need to be 'rich' to buy clothes sustainably. Second hand is very reasonable and their are many affordable brands like Pact. ( especially for underwear) .

I would like to see more videos exposing green washing brands...ie. Frank and Oak? Any lists and ratings on brands is always helpful. As much as many people 'want' to care I find most just do not have the time or make the time to actually do the research. Research for either brands that are greenwashing or brands that are good or better choices to shop from. If you could do a ranking video about fashion brands it would be helpful to many I'm sure.

Hey! I was wandering if there is a way to support directly those people who work in the factories involved in the fast fashion chain. I know that we are far away from the point where there will be too few of us who buy from big brands to cause those who work for them to lose their job, but as we kow, prevention is better than cure. I don't buy fast fashion clothing items anymore, but I would love to find a way to help all the families and children who sadly can count only on their extra-low wage to live... maybe you could do a video about it! Anyway, I've been watching you for a while now, and I've fallen in love with you and your channel. Thank you for all the hard work you put in it!

I’ve been looking into this too! I recommend following clean clothes campaign (garment workers) and the OR foundation (resellers in Africa), they shed light on this area and often share links to organizations or directly support workers! Right now, the OR foundation (@theorispresent on IG) is collecting donations to help those in Ghana recover from the fire weeks ago!

they produce way way too much and have had their fair share of subtle greenwashing (ie going carbon neutral but only in their stores vs their entire supply chain) and marketing up their fabrics
