Not much of a fan at 44 these days but, when I was a kid, that Dookie album was EVERYTHING. I remember listening to it on my walkman as a walked to my friend's house. For some reason, the sun seemed brighter in those days.
I used to sell guitars to Green Day, they would come in the guitar shop I worked at in Berkeley, California in the 90's. My sisters friends are in the early music videos too.
Love your love and appreciation of PUNK my brother. Memories Ramones, The Clash, Bad Religion, Agent Orange, Misfits, SO MUCH FUN!!!! PUNK in the 80s and 70s. My first Ramones show was in SF California at The Winterland Ballroom Dec 28 1978, I have the original Poster signed by The Tubes for which the Ramones opened. I was 13 and a pain in my sister's behind because Dad forced her to take me with her. Back then The Ramones rarely signed anything but when I told security I was there for them, Not The Tubes, they told security to let the kid in.
I was at that same show, it was the Mighty Mighty Bosstones and the Butthole Surfers. I also saw White Zombie with Smashing Pumpkins there, Tool and a few others, I will ALWAYS remember the Edge.
I cant get enough of these videos you do about you music memories and such. All the little details and facts are very appreciated. Thanks for remembering these days so well and taking your time to reminisce with us. Stoked you mentioned Clutch in there too.
My friend hosted a screening of Maniac (1980) in Burbank a few weeks ago and him and Wetmovie1 were at the event when he heard that Green Day dropped in the record store on the corner a few doors down. Run the Groove records was holding a listening party for the new record and Green Day just decided to drop in. Still kicking myself for missing it
I remember they played a local Santa Cruz club as Longview hit MTV when I was in High school. All the freshmen were into them, I saw them a year later at a hometown show in Oakland. I never thought they'd get to Arena/stadium level
Adam great video looking back! We are around the same age I have a couple of places in my area surprisingly still open changed names a few times but still a nice small concert halls. Great coverage of the area and your old stomping grounds!
This one brings back memories. I grew up in a similar era as you but I grew up in the Dayton/Cincinnati area. I went to every concert in the 90s including greenday multiple times. I loved and still love early greenday as well. The first album I ever owned was Greenday Kerpkunk. Backbbefore they blew up. I do have tickets to see greenday later this year at Great American Ballpark in Cinci. If your bored feel free to make your way up north lol. Supposed to be Greenday with Rancid opening!!!
You are like the Rainman of punk rock! It’s not my thing, but you amazed me with your memory of concerts that you attended and the facts and figures about the groups. Well done!
Awesome. You mentioned that first ever warped tour. That brings back so many memories. I saw all those bands at the Myrtle Beach stop. First and only time I ever got to see Seaweed. Good times.
Ha I saw fishbone and the BEASTIE BOYS ,Murphys law ON Feb 3rd 1987 it was just in a convention center.in Fresno calif not even the main building.just a side hall. So fun crazy but frickin fun
This is a great episode! I love when you talk about your concert going days. I never been to Orlando, but it looks really similar to the Anaheim area in California (where I live). Maybe it’s the palm trees. LOL
Cool show today Woo man! Memory lane is always a nice place to go for us of the sentimental persuasion. Always so nice to see your kind face asking ne to join you on another day of who knows what. Thanks Woo! I'll see you tomorrow. Same bat time..Same bat channel.. I certainly shall!
I'm so impressed by the bands you've seen!! I'm a bit jelly. You make me go down memory lane of concerts....my first was Grateful Dead in Phila before Jerry died. My second....Lalapoolooza 94. Got stomped on pretty good in the pit. Ahh...those were the days!
I still love, love Green Day! So sad to miss this year's tour, f*ck cancer. Met Mike at the winter X-Games years ago, such a nice guy! I wish I could have seen them in the early days like you did! I have seen them five times all post American Idiot. I'll never forget being in the pit a couple of times at Pennywise, and even at Guttermouth. I was in my fifties then! Hope to see Clutch soon, here in Colorado. Good old days!
Unbelievable memories Adam, you should get a picture of this, so the artist could render it for you, because the memories are so intense! You have a fabulous one that’s for sure ! can’t believe you saw the Ramones right here🎉
I remember that the first CD or two CDs that I ever bought were Green Day Dookie & Modern English. CDs were starting to be very popular at that time. Ah, the good days. 😌
Man that’s so crazy I was thinking Adam should show the Station too lol then you did. So many memories of the Edge and the Station and when it was called the power station too. Saw many many rock and metal shows at both. And some of the same shows you saw Adam. Really cool trip down memory lane.
The real Punk Rock days were back in the early 80's!! I was in high school and some of the kids got into that music with the mohawks, leather, and fishnets. Dead Kennedys, The Clash, and Black Flagg was HUGE because they were from Hermosa Beach.
Man Seaweed I wish I could see! I saw most the bands you mentioned and yeah the Mighty Mighty Bosstones I’ve seen about 5-6 times stage diving was their thing and crowd surfing to the don’t know how to party album!
You should seriously write a book on your music life and your knowledge of music that you have heard and bands you have seen it would be an awesome read for your fans Adam 😊
Saw a few songs from Green Day while at When We Were Young in LV❤ So good😍 Would love to their entire set😊 That Billy Joe has so much energy and enthusiasm 💜
I love early Green Day too. but i think they still kick ass both live and on the new albums. I saw them for the first time in Berlin sometime early 90s i think. The best concert that i've seen with Green Day was American Idiot in Stockholm, and now i'm looking forward to see them again for the tenth time this summer in London. Green Day & Iron Maiden, two best bands ever!
I'm just a bit older than you but hearing you talk about your music scene reminds me of those days. I never got into 90's punk. I gravitated toward Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr. Jane's Addiction, and a lot of the late 80's, early 90's british scene Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Drop Nineteens, My Bloody Valentine, Ride, Swervedriver, Slowdive, Jesus and Mary Chain to name a few. Probably saw hundreds of shows in those days. We probably crossed over on some of the grunge acts like Soundgarden however. Good times...thought they'd last forever back then.
Warped Tour 1996, at Action Park (iykyk) probably only sold 1/4 of the tickets. The bands were hanging out in the crowd, it poured for the last half, and was probably 90 degrees out. Got to hang out with NOFX, my 17 year old self thought I was the sh*t.
I never got to see Green Day in the 90s because I was slightly younger than you and couldn't get into the 18+ venues. Never saw them once I turned 18. But I've got a ticket to see them this fall in Nashville so I'll finally get to tick them off my concert bucket list!
I have a Cinder Block Jacket that was given to me when we stopped by the shop to pick up merch for No Use For A Name for a tour with Dance Hall Crashers and Limp. The Cinder Block logo was designed by Sergio from SAMIAM, originally designed as a flyer for Samiam and Green Day at the Bears Lair at UC Berkeley.
I sang for the hardcore band Bunny Yum, which became the pop punk band Teen Idols after we split in the early 90s. We opened for The Offspring at a little club in Murfreesboro, TN in 1990.
