Episode 1255 - I'm demoing a completely amazing 1966 or 1967 Selmer Treble and Bass MkII guitar amp. I'm using a 2008 Gibson Les Paul R9 and a 1970 Marshall 4x12 loaded with 2x JBL D120F and 2x JBL E120. The amp is just the perfect match for these speakers. Compared to Marshalls from the same era these are still very affordable.

I lived in Sweden back in the 70's and owned a Treble 'N Bass Mk II that was either a 65 or 66. Would kill to have that back now. Basically a Bassman with a few mods. It did have a very similar cracked faceplate above the switch. Would be funny if it is my old one, but maybe that's a common defect. I did trade it in for a pretty legendary other one, though. A 1975 Orange OR120. I modded that one with a master volume since it would take the grout out of my parent's tile work. I played it through a Laney 4x12 with Goodman elements (aluminum dust cap, don't remember the model) that may have been a contributing factor. Moved some serious air, those suckers.

That's the best amp in the world, and I've got two of them. Both 1966 with the rectifier tube. Together with two 4x12 cabs, two Binson echorec2 and a '68 Stratocaster it doesn't get any better! I consider myself quite lucky to have achieved this stuff, but it didn't come for free. I don't know how many hours I have spent restoring all this old gear.

Oh, selmer! Love this company’s woodwind instruments. When I was in my high school and college wind ensemble most of the players used Selmer instruments. Charlie Parker used a Selmer “Naked Lady” saxophone on some of his greatest recordings. They merged with Conn and now they’re one of the biggest woodwind and brass producers in America. Tons of great brands: Selmer, Conn, King, Jupiter, Bach, you name it. Never knew they made Amos but these sound great. As underrated as the Fender Showmaster IMO.

Nobody seems to notice how much the JBL's in the 4x12 would affect this sound. Low amp power, high output clear speakers. That cabinet must required a forklift to pick up. I think Stevie Vaughan also used some JBL's, maybe E-110's in a Fender Super Reverb

Hi, Johan! I never saw this amp. Its not too much agressive, as it can do Randall or Fender, the overdrive is a little weak, but with the bedal it will be not bad. But its very rare amp. For Pink Floyd from the early years its going well. Maybe one day I will meet that amp. Hope so! And... Yeah, you was right: V30 is very versatile and strong speaker. With my Washburn G5V 1987 USA , the best superstrat I ever played on, this is amazing, so thank you for your advice! I really appreciate it. If you say, I trust you! See you! S.

I've got one of the really ugly MkIII Silver versions. As far as I know, it's the same circuit. It's a simple amp, cleaner than any old Marshall I've played. My amp tech (Vintage himself) remarked on how these old Selmers were considered a bit cheap and basic back in the day, and finds it interesting to see them gaining a following. He did also then remark, after servicing the amp, at 'how good it sounded'! Looking forward to this!
@ScoopChunk93
@ScoopChunk93 Год назад
@odgeUK as far as i know the MK3 Version got a tube bufferd "fx loop" which was designed for a Selmer Echo unit. This alters the sound a bit ( my mk3 goes from clean directly to a fuzz like distortion at about 8 on the volume pot. I got a mk2, mk3 and mk4rsv and circuit wise the mk4 is pretty much the same as the mk2 except for the added presence knob, of course the reverb and a little higher filtering in the mk4. The presence cap is in the mk2 too but without the pot so if the presence on the mk 4 is on 10 its damn close. Cheers

I had one of the 100SV versions. It sounded massive and had a massive amount of volume on tap. I got it up to 7 once. ONCE. I sold it to a psych/stoner rock band called Dead Meadow, and they said that it was louder than their Orange AD140, which they preferred using live. It was so crunchy and beautiful when it was turned up, but the sound was intense. It sounded like a Marshall that was falling apart. Johann has a video on his channel of the 50SV, it's definitely worth watching.
