Today we wanted to change it up a bit from the standard brands we usually feature, and while walking the shop Trevor found the perfect amp - a 1968 Selmer Treble N Bass 50 head and cab with reverb! These amplifiers have a really cool and unique sound to them, and are quite hard to find in the US. The "David" cabinet is loaded with a 15" Goodman speaker, providing plenty of low end for those that want or need it. This amp is loud, clean, and has a great EL34 sound - especially nice with a Strat, such as the Pin-Up Trevor is using for the demo!

Sounds great. I remember seeing the Kills on support for Franz Ferdinand in Brixton 2004 - Jamie plays LOUD

I have one and I'll never part with it. It's one of the most underrated amps in rock history.

I remember Pink Floyd used these amps when they performed at the UFO Club.

I had one of these with reverb for almost 15 years until I traded it for a White Falcon. It was always a conversation piece and sounded great.

@@justyouraveragehuman4069 Hi James, it was exactly a 1966 Selmer Thunderbird MKII. We can see on the internet some pictures of Paul playing this amp.

It's not well known but the only reason Selmer Amps were not as popular as Vox amps is simply because the Beatles used Vox amps for their gigs. Hence Vox amp sales went crazy. Selmer amps were just as good as Vox amps, if not better, but were basically pushed to the sidelines because of the numerous TV shows etc covering the Beatles performances. This basically advertised the Vox AC 30 amps as opposed to the super Selmer stuff. I played thru a Selmer treble n bass 50w for 30 years. (2 x 12 cab) Awesome amp. A great warm clean tone. An ideal set-up is 2 of them stood a few feet apart then play a guitar through a stereo chorus pedal. Oh man, Awesome! Words cant describe the tone.

Fuck me, that is clean. So clean, you could eat off it. It's clean, but full sounding, not thin sounding like the 70s Fenders. Killer playing

I own two early seventies model Selmers. One is the Zodiac 50 and the other is the Treble & Bass 50. I wanted one of these amps for years and ended up buying two of them from the same guy and man I can't imagine not having these amps now, they are really cool amps and sound great with pedals.

That's a though one to decide which one I like better. I guess I like the Treble & Bass 50 a little better. They both could use some upgrades to the filter caps and probably a few resistors and coupling caps. Not crazy about the reverb on the Zodiac but still very cool amp.

Plugging the treble channel with treble pot at max is not a sensible thin to do. It remains me this shine on crazy diamond guy that never went back from space oOoOOh!

This cat has no clue about the history of these amps much less English amp history ...again, this video, like so many others, is more about the player than the amp.

This is such a generic sounding 'I really know nothing about this topic' introduction - oh my God... The music shop world is so full of these Heroes who know nothing about things but then act as though they've known them all their lives and they were born in the bottom of the cabinet and the speaker was their 'blankie'.
