It took me some time to realize that true riding is at very slow speeds and having full control. Got my bike in June after 35 years off of bikes and for the first couple of months it was road riding always between 45 to 75 mph. Then the safety class made me realize that to be a good rider you are good at very low speeds as he demonstrated right away on this bike. I’ve been having a lot of fun going to a state park near my home with 20 mph speed limits throughout the park and working on sharp turns, U-turns, coming to a stop and then go without putting any foot down. It’s fun to see progress and confidence at slow speeds.

I see a lot of people mentioning the sound in the comments. I actually like the sound it makes in person and when riding it. It's really one of the ways you know how fast you are going :) in person it's very fitting to me.

This is my future bike. I've been watching your videos because I'm going to be taking the Motorcyclist Safety Program course next month and you have excellent lessons. I can't wait to be in a parking lot learning this bike. I've never wanted a shifty because even ctrl/alt/delete can be a bit tricky for me. I loved seeing my favorite teacher riding my favorite bike.

That was amazing restraint to ride it slow for ten minutes and not crack the throttle wide open! Hope you get to try the Ribelle at some point. It has more torque and the lighter battery with 60% more range. It's a sweet looking ride.

Thanks for directing me to this video, it was good to see you struggle at the start with the low speed corner and then to see how fast you got it after that. I have to say that the HD Livewire sounds a thousand times better at low speed, it’s worth the extra money for that alone!! Thanks again, I can see what I need is lots more low speed practice!!!

Lovely looking bike and that is one very odd suspension setup. One shock but it's offset to one side. I don't know about that. Shit range on it though isn't it, for such a well spec'd bike. That anodised blue aluminium is lush, I want to lick it =P Sound of a motorbike is feedback to me, the lack of it is always gonna be disconcerting. Last summer, I had a day out on an electric motorcross bike and was way out of my comfort zone, just learning that particular sort bike riding is a whole different ball game to road riding. However, because of the lack of engine noise and clutch etc, it made me very nervous and uncomfortable, often tensing up and spending more time in the bushes than on the course. I'd love to give the electric road bikes a try though, looks great fun and not having to worry about learning to manage a motorcross bike on slippery mud and stuff, it would probably feel a lot better. Great video Eddie.

gorgeous bike it is. Energica Ego Corsa it's a missile, but I'd rather take the other naked model they have in stock, it looks savage. Everybody says their stock price is gonna sky rocket over the moon with this Moto-E world championship thing for which they are the only manufacturer

The model name of the bike ridden here is "2020 Energica Eva EsseEsse9". For 2021 Energica offer's a larger battery in this model, called the "2021 Energica Eva EsseEsse9+" (the + signifying the new larger 21.5 kWh battery). You can still get the smaller battery for less if you want.

On the plus side ,nice bike good for the environment etc. My major corcern is two wheels on electric are quite in normal traffic . Electric cars are still in its infancy. I have and use both forms of transport ie, bike and car but not sure about sitting on a bike while in electric mode just yet. Safety first for me at the moment. Nice review

Until now, I only saw a few riding, but they surprised the crap out of me, as I didn't hear them coming. That surely gonna give problems, unless the get a speaker with virtual bike noise.

@ALCLCF Exactly, pedestrians expect to hear that motorcycle. When you're in a car, you're more aware of your audible limits and look around. The pedestrain is well aware of sounds, and is therefore surprised not to hear them coming. This requires the electric rider to be aware of his "silent" signature in the traffic. Same with electric cars, but they create more noise by their four tires. Might be interesting to design car and bike in a way that it's heard better. Here, there are already more and more light electrics scooters, and they are plain dangerous in the cities, as many ride them without being conscious of their relative silence. Same problem with the pedelecs, the electric bicycles that go 30 mph, people just don't expect that, and accident numbers with them are rising. It's great for enviroment, but integration in traffic needs work. After 100 years of petrol heads, people are programmed to hear traffic arriving. I suppose evolution will remove those who have a bad hearing?

I wear a Dainese D|air Misano jacket and love it. It’s heavy, but you get used to it and protects like no other. If Rossi trusts it, it’s definitely good enough for my sub 200mph rides. Honestly, I won’t go back to wearing anything w/o an airbag.

Well... Nice bike, but on Polish market it is more than Yamaha R1M. New. Suppose whole EU market is very similar. Comparable naked MT10 (US it is FZ10 probably) is half price the of Energica. Well... long time before I start to consider Eva.

True, not cheap. I rode several Zero's and the Harley livewire before this EVA. The build quality on this bike is really great, tons of billet aluminum one off pieces etc. It's still not inexpensive for a city commuting machine

. Can you charge with regular house 120 AC power. And If so how long will IT take? Its very interesting im sure once the ranges get farther and charging times faster it would convince me more.

They have 200mi ones. Yes you can charge overnight on regular 120. But fast chargers are not expensive

@@legacytesla Actually MY2020 has a 250 mile range with the biggest battery. Regarding charging, yes you can charge it at home of course, but it also supports every public DC fast charger like ElectrifyAmerica (if you're in the US), or Ionity, Fastned (for EU). All the details are on their website, check it out.

You never notice it missing. Since it is always at optimal torque, your mind reads it the same as when your gas bike is at peak power RPM. So it never triggers your instinct to switch gears. Think of it as a never ending first gear (right up to 125/150 mph depending on model).

Bukar Abdullah ebikes have full torque available from the start, there would be software controlling that torque to make it manageable. Adjust the software.

On my Zero you just twist and lean back, this thing has even more power so should be easy. It will also do burnouts no problem.

That one is 18k. Options on it are carbon, chain guard, front and rear huggers, and heated grips, and it's the middle of the line Eva, they make one cheaper and one more expensive

CPO’s are available on Enérgica’s website between 10-15k, and new starts at 15k. I bought the bigger battery Ribelle for 22k but am getting $ back from fed, state, and utility rebates. Bonus is much less maintenance and I already generate more energy than I currently use from my solar panels, so I’m turning sun into fun!

I know electric is inevitable and it’s slowly creeping it’s way in to all modes of transportation but there is something about an internal combustion engine consuming fossil fuels that’s just so beautiful Electric just feels anemic, empty and hollow-soulless. Can you imagine a Moto GP race with all electric bikes. It would sound pathetic. I'm so glad and lucky I grew up in a world with 12 cylinder Jaguars and Super bikes. I have 23 solar panels on my roof. That 's my carbon offset. I will use internal combustion engines till the last drop of oil comes out of the ground!! But I do agree that there is a place for electric vehicles in the congested cities.

Yes, outside the US, I’ve seen riders in Europe and New Zealand charge it using a Tesla charger, but Tesla chargers in the US are a different shape/type.

Just a question out of interest: why do you mention that this is a “2020” Energica. Why is it so important to mention the (model?) year before the make and model? Obviously, your fellow country people all do this, but when did this start? And why? On topic: I like that the bike is not a fossil bike and that it’s more or less quiet, it’s just a shame they made a tiny naked bike.

There are differences every year. Also worth noting the USA year model differs from Europe. So technically this was a 2020/2019 Energica. 2020 in the USA and 2019 in Europe. The 2021/2020 model introduces a longer range battery (21.5 kWh) and slightly more power.

I must admit I am biased, I hate all electrical vehicles, they pretend to be ECO but the batteries are far from that, anway, I would never buy such a bike due to the (missing) sound. It lacks "soul" and must be dangerous as well, as nobody in a car can hear you.

.............. and 10 miles to the gallon, errrrr I mean full charge. That is the problem with electric bikes. What if you're on a long distance ride in the middle of the night in a secluded long stretch of road and you're bike is about to run out of juice? Darkness all around you, panic sets in, and no where to 'fuel' up your bike even IF you happen to come upon a lonely dinky little gas station! Now tell me, do you still want your Energizer Batter bike then?!! 'Nough said! *drops mic* :P

Why would you be in this fictitious scenario to begin with? Every tool has its purpose, and you would not choose this bike for long distance riding in the middle of the night. Wtf. But if you have a 20-30mi work or school commute and have solar at home this bike would be incredible to never go to the gas station.

You're right, for now. You can only take this bike within city limits. However, 10 years from now, where gasoline bikes will be antiques, I'm sure that their mile to the gallon will increase dramatically and they will probably have credit card or hand-chip operated electric charger poles in the middle of the night, in the middle of no-where. Since by that time they will be charging not only bikes but cars and all sorts of transport.

Luckily charging stations are open 24/7 and they're building them all over the place, so you'd be saved. But if you're afraid of darkness, why are you doing a long distance ride in the middle of the night and not using the app to find the nearest charging station?

i really dislike the electric bikes :( no personality, no character,dont look particularly great. Hopefully they can change my mind in the future.

How do you define "personality" on a bike? For me such an innovation based field like electric mobility gives it a lot of character.

Agree. E bikes lack the soul of a motorcycle. Also the sound of this things is so offputting for me.

How many have you actually ridden though? To be honest, if you're planning to keep riding as a lifelong commitment, you're going to own an e-bike. They will out price and out perform everything else on the market within the next decade. And that's assuming manufacturers even decide to continue putting out gas models (which in itself is highly unlikely).

I rode this bike for a few days it has tons of personality and soul. I own other bikes and have owned many bikes people would consider the epitome of soul. Tamburini, 999r 1098r F4 Senna, GSX-R, K1300, and many others. You literally have no idea what you are talking about, maybe go ride one instead of just guessing on the internet.

Yep, I have an idea, It needs very little. Oddly enough it does need oil changes :) these are oil cooled motors and the oil does need to be changed, but not frequently. If you use regen (which helps with range) it does not eat through brake pads because much of your stopping will not even use brakes. Yet if you are riding hard (think track days) it will chew through pads because it's heavy and carries a lot of inertia. Otherwise these things are pretty bullet proof.
