Great move by Sagar to ask the boy to answer in Russian when English isn't working. There aren't many interviewers who would think of asking for an answer they cannot understand themselves when there is no translator.

Simply amazing. He played 10 GMs and 3 IMs in his 13 rounds. His rapid rating progressed from 2042 to 2222. Too bad norms are not available in rapid tournaments, otherwise his performance was worthy of an IM norm.

Why are norms not available in rapid tournaments? do you think that should be changed and there should be separate blitz, rapid, and classical titles? what's the argument against this

Interestingly, the mother mentioned that they are Kalmyk, who are the only Buddhist people in Europe. The former FIDE president Kirsan Ilyumzhinov was also a Kalmyk, and someone who made Chess a compulsory subject in all schools in Kalmykia.

Just amazing played by a 8 year old kid. 1 point below average is top playing for this kid. If he get same back up as Magnus did in his age, he will be a world champion. If it was possible to make a game with Magnus age 8(timemachine) and this player, im very sure Magnus would loose allmost every time.

You cud have just said "say the notation of your ideas...!" Sagar, Sagar - Amruta is right, you don't have presence of mind some times 😃. Yes, Google Translate on the phone is a very techy idea - that even I wudn't have thought of (if I were busy all day!) Instead of "pointing at 3 arrows" (3 different ideas) all the time, ask HIM to put the arrow, that's all...

He's 13.Though he's an exceptional talent,it's quite normal these days for 13 yr olds to be FMs,IMs or even GMS.Beating 2 GMs/1 IM at 8 on the other hand is exceptional. That said Lev's achievement is also huge. Not achievable by most ordinary standards and I'm sure he'll be a GM in the future.
