All celebrities in Japan act the same way as Yuzuru. They simply announce their marriages without ever revealing that they were dating, and we often don't get to know the person they marry. It's a completely different culture; they keep their private lives very private. I've been following Japanese and Korean culture for years. The same happens with many K-pop stars.

They do however at least add something like, “my partner is a member of the general public (ie. not from the same field of entertainment/sports/celebrity). In memory it is the first time the river heard of a Nyuseki (entering family registry) announcement without mentioning whatsoever about the partner. So I do find it odd!

@@berrypinksweets It’s definitely healthier. I’m in Europe and there’s no way the couples could be completely private unless we are talking to a very low key celebrity. I’m pretty sure I can google the spouse and kids of every medium-big celebrity/athlete in my country and I would get the picture. Which is alarming, in some cases the face of the kids are not even blurred. I’m glad Japanese can be that private I should be legal to hassle people and rob pictures of them during their private moments.

By the way, Yuzuru is married. It’s not impossible to translate his announcement as ‘to be married in the future’, but customary speaking when one says it in the way he did in Japanese, they are usually married.

I had to watch some of this Swan Lake performance to chime in…yeah it’s a lot. As a ballet dancer honestly the ponytail is the first thing I see. You’re never going to have a long loose ponytail in a classical ballet. It combined with the tights over bootie warmers looks very jazzercise Black Swan. If she wanted to mimic the look of black pointe shoes she should have just worn black skating boots, granted I don’t think I have ever seen a stage performance of Swan Lake with black pointe shoes. Also they didn’t use her energy very well. Like the Black Swan doesn’t have to be as soft as the White Swan. She’s a seductive imposter up to know good. If they had turned her energy inward toward him and added more impishness to it, she wouldn’t have to be as traditionally “balletic” and she wouldn’t have been competing with his superior port de bras. JMO as a dancer. It feels like the person who choreographed this has never seen Swan Lake a day in their life.

they need professional help. the dude with facial hair actually seemed like he was gonna grow a pair for once and he tried to mention that yuzu has always been a private person so the announcement is very on-brand for him but that loser in the black shirt who has more of a hate boner for yuzu (still obsessed with him) immediately stopped him from elaborating any further and started talking about gymnastics. he clearly didn't want yuzu to be perceived normally or understood at all . yuzuru is famous for keeping personal matters private but more casual fans don't know the extent of it. many people are also unaware of japanese customs so they did not understand yuzu's announcement that well - these two could have explained it briefly but nah, it's preferable to make fun of him and ofc they cannot be bothered to educate themselves on anything that doesn't concern north america. it's also very typical of them to use yuzu's name in the title, barely talk about and use those few minutes to insult him and spread as much misinformation as possible.

Dave, Japanese citizens can't keep the existence of their marriage secret. This information is in family register and it's a publicly available document. From the moment he decided to get married, the public was going to know about it either way. Option 1 was: he was the one who announces it on his own terms, without any drama. Option 2 was: tabloids were going to do it for him in a big style. If his spouse is not a public figure, they can't leak her identity to the media even if her name in family register is a publicly available information. But the fact that *he* got married can be leaked by tabloids. And there's no surprise that he wanted to keep his private life private, at least as much as it can be done in Japan. He's been doing it his whole career. We don't even know how his sister looks like. And we don't need to know the identity of his partner either, since it's none of our business. p.s.: And if that marriage was "fake", as you think it is, the tabloids would find that out very quickly, too.

The amount of ignorance here about japan's culture is over the top. In japan well-known people specially people with a lot of following hides their personal life very tightly. Its just how things are there. And in japan you register AFTER you are married. Its very smart that he didnt reveal his partner if yall are gonna act this alway anyways. Oona and Gage look like a senior team now. I'm so hoping they will be "part of the mix" in the fight for World team spots this year. I think their programs are very effective, and you can see where there is still room for growth. Now that they have the Montreal connection, I think that puts them right up there in the top 5 U.S. teams.

Apparently, a lot of them also marry around this age. Also, i think there's an attempt at humor lost in translation. Is that the most you've ever talked about the Browns? They have a cult following, with myself included. I see this introduction of a new dance season the same as previous ones. They try difficult and innovative moves and have signature moves. The beginning shows that they are still working with those moves, but every performance improves until by the end of the season, they're practically flawless. This year's free dance is elegant. It pares their choreography down to simpler moves that show off their skill and grace. And common, Jonathan. The Brown can slide like nobody's business. Hydroblade? Been there. Done that. I was surprised to see them wearing their rhythm dance costumes from two years ago. Maybe their new ones aren't ready?

The British are mismatched, Gibson is much stronger than fear, but I love to watch them. Same with papa/ciz. Cizeron is probably the strongest and most aesthetic male in decades. Davis and smolkin… need to figure out how to highlight their strengths.

They were in sync with one another but the transitions in and out of elements seemed wonky. My only other critique would be the fact that they ended weak which is strange for the climax of swan lake.

Diana's costume choice makes her look like a 10 year old baby ballerina who is trying to convince her mum to send her to some big ballet school. If she wanted to do alternative Odile, wear a jumpsuit with cutouts and patterns to give the same effect but with a more modern look- that would work! Can anyone tell me what ChHy means on the protocol sheet? I've heard of choreographic step sequences, lifts, spins, assisted jumps, and slides, but this one is new to me.

It's a new choreographic element you can do in the free skate this season. Choreographic Hydroblading Movement - Hydroblading movement by both partners at the same time for at least 2 seconds.

@@trylogic4084According to reddit, keypoints in the USA competitions protocols don't affect the score, they just tell you which level feature you earned in the step sequence. First keypoint is the body rotation, second is the body movement and the third is the combination of difficult turns (two clusters). So it's like a more detailed way to write the same info than just StSq1-4. Now you know which features were counted by the tech panel. I would love if they also listed features for spin levels in the future.

I would think it was a compliment for a country to have so many talented skaters in one or more disciplines that if they're not in the top 8 or so, they need to leave for another country if they want to compete internationally. The fact that one of our skaters who wasn't ranked highly enough showed up at the Olympics representing Switzerland is a good thing, in my opinion.

I think you're spot on about the RD music choices. The 80s brought entirely new styles of music--punk, goth, hip-hop. Even synth pop took music in a different direction. So many amazing songs. But the choices so far have been a big disappointment to me.

This inst was then hacked and there was a scandal. (Yuzu himself did not appear there, these were the sick fantasies of that girl)

@@sohlangan i think this news isn't correct because this was reported in none of the major reliable news outlets which is why the general public kept speculating about who she might be. His spouse is most likely a regular person aka a non-celebrity so it's no wonder her identity is being secret. In japanese culture, it is quite typical of celebrities to separate their professional life from their private life. You never see Yuzuru's mum (only by chance on camera though), dad or sister either. He rarely mentions them either. They are regular folks who keep themselves out of the public eye as much as possible. When Yuzu opened different social media accounts, he posted a photo from his childhood to introduce himself and he even cropped his sister out of the photo (everyone has already seen that photo which had his sister long ago.) They take their privacy very seriously. In Sharepractice on his youtube channel, when basically all of japanese media gathered to watch him practice, there is this part in the beginning where he warns his mum who is like his manager to stay back a bit more or else she will be on camera.

Diana and Glen’s free dance is particularly terrible. Is it possible their coaching team is trying to sabotage them? Even though it’s early in the season, It’s just hard to believe that everyone on their team and mama Eteri gave that a green light. Why don’t they choose music that highlights him, and music where it would be stylistic to have an unpointed toe and a parallel (non-turned out) position?

@@lild2515 hahahaha…I mean, in terms of pointed toes, I agree. Many of her skaters have the ballet appearance without complete turnout or pointed toes. But this particular program? It was an abomination… I didn’t see it until after Dave and Jonathan reviewed it. I thought they were exaggerating at first, but then I saw the program. Wow! The program is a major setback. They look like they were demoted levels. It almost looks like a project runway task. “Skaters, you have 30 minutes inside this Party City. You need to purchase and complete your costume within this time, with only $10.”

Publicity for what? He was already on the news and trending literally the day, no even minutes! before the announcement for his BTS dance and AERA photoshoot. I doubt he'll ever bring up his marriage again and just continue like he always has been.

Re: Yuzuru's marriage. This is a long comment because I honest to god have no where else to talk about it and idk i just want to dump all my thoughts here. My theories: 1. He desperately needed a fandom cleanse and he shrewdly knew that he was being regarded like an idol as opposed to an athlete. Announcing that you are now PERMANENTLY off the market is a great way to remove delusional fans. 2. He couldve kept it quiet but come on, the man gets stalked relentlessly by the tabloids. It would've come out sooner than later and he probably wanted to announce it on his own terms. 3. This could be his gesture to his partner like look I don't want to ever discuss my private life to the press but I need to have her acknowledged somehow in case he accidentally slips and references her. Those are my theories. Though to me the biggest eyebrowing raising thing I learned is that NO ONE saw it coming or even knew he was seeing someone. There's a language barrier here but from what I understood from Nobu's congratulatory post was even he was shocked that Yuzu got married and Nobu is supposed to be his best buddy. There's also those quotes circulating on Twitter (I refuse to call it X) from his junior coach saying that he was shocked, and that he didn't know that Yuzu was seeing anyone. There's also that screenshot in Tiktok, some fan allegedly messaged Javi about it and even he said he didn't know anything. I wonder if Keiji knew. There's also that thread from Japanese sports writer Megumi Takagi (?? i think they're a sports writer, the translation for their bio is confusing) analyzing something Yuzu said during his SharePratice last year. He apparently made mentioned about prioritizing his heart and the parts of him that he doesn't show to the press. Yuzu apparently also said that this choice in prioritizing his heart might lead people to say that they're disappointed in him. So going by that, this isn't a shot gun marriage and he probably has been thinking about it for a while. Who knows really. Ever the mystery man, Yuzu-kun.

Diana and Gleb: SO many missed opportunities to build the excitement in conjunction with the music - as if they were choreographed in slow motion throughout. Hard to believe this is an Igor program. Huge fan of Swan Lake but this program is not impactful enough.

Perhaps Yuzuru's marriage announcement was more of a metaphor -- like he is now trying to grow up and become the mature person he wasn't able to be for the past 24 years while he was devoting his entire life to skating. Now he is ready to "commit" to himself as an adult and have a fuller life. Like marrying himself as a committed adult and/or becoming someone who is ready to begin to consider marrying another mature adult. I know it's weird, but I don't see any literal way to interpret his wacky announcement. Who else says "I decided to get married," not "we decided to get married." If he really is married to another person, then this person has already been made invisible. Egads!

Don't get hung on on literal translations, the Japanese language omits a lot. Even in the original Japanese he doesn't say he is married. He's says registering (which is what you do when you get married). Also, Shizuka Arakawa never revealed who her husband is. It's not uncommon in Japanese culture for their relationships to fly under the radar. To them, their private life is just that -- private. However, tabloids revealed that Yuzu purchased two new apartments (likely one for him and his spouse and the other for his parents) so maybe he just wanted to get ahead of anything leaking beforehand, like what happened with the announcement of his retirement.

I think there's laws in Japan too to protect them from these kins of stuff. For instance, they can't reveal his future kids name nor pictures. Also, he lives in Sendai and pretty much everyone there knows him and all his philanthropic contributions to the city so he's highly respected, especially in privacy terms.
