@@Odah_ Technically they were Danish in descent and only the ruling classes and culture became French based. The normal people carried on using old English, hence why there are two words for the animal raised and food, of the animals. The people who raised the animals used the animal name which was Saxon ie Cow, Pig and the food was French, Beef and Pork etc as it was the rulers eating most of them. French gradually came into the language, but English is a mixture of lots of older languages
