Making art without a brush or paint can be fun to do. For instance a readymade. I begins at understanding how it works. I show you a number of examples from the artworld and explain how I my create mine. Open your mind and you can turn any item into an artwork.
The video about the artwork on the wall behind me: • Understand your artist...
The video about the word ‘Gezellig’: • 6 GEZELLIGE little thi...

Materials
The art materials I use in the videos are not sponsored.
I prefer to work on multi-purpose paper, more info in this video: • How to choose the RIGH... In almost all my videos I use with Winsor&Newton Galeria acrylics, if not, I will say so in the video. Other materials I use are in random order: 5, 10 and 40mm brushes, palette knives, acrylics medium, Ecoline liquid watercolor, Lyra color pencils, Lyra soft pastels, oil pastels, Stabilo color pencils, paper palette pad and basic masking tape. I also use household items like a permanent marker, scrub sponge, scissors, paper towel, and so on.

This video really highlights why I love watching you discuss abstract art. I love your process, how you think out of the box, and how you see the world in a different way. You can also take your thoughts on standard kitchen utensils and apply it to life and how you deal with others. Great video!

Hi Dark, thanks. When the idea clicks with you, you can add so much more fun and ease to your art making process. Try for yourself, Albert

Wow Albert. Interesting as always. This video serves as a refresher of the ideas that inspired contemporary art. You just jigged my memory and made me remember the beauty of Marcel Duchamp’s ways of challenging the art establishment. And, how by doing so he and his contemporaries opened our minds and made us more receptive to the idea that any object around can be just as inspirational as anything else. I liked very much your metaphors in reference to your kitchenware. They inspired a new visual vocabulary for use to depict our emotions and responses to the influences in the world that surrounds us. Your smoking pipe picture reminded me of the story of a woman who was visiting a gallery exhibiting Modigliani art. When Modigliani found her fixated on a painting of a lady whom he made her arm way too long to be “real”, he asked what she thought of his work. She answered that the lady’s hand are unrealistically long. His answer was “madam, this is not a lady. It is a picture”. Thanks so much Albert. It is always a pleasure to watch your videos first thing on Sunday morning while sipping my first cup of coffee.

Hi Salim, thanks. Funny story you bring up about a response to a Modigliani painting. My response was: oh in case it doesn't have to look realistic I can give it a try too. Same painting, different response. Just as my kitchen ware evokes my thought, you can have others looking at similar ones. It's all personal and only when painting it, talk about it or make a video about it, it is out in the open and ready to inspire in any way. Thanks, your comment adds another layer to the video. Albert

Excellent! Duchamp really thumbed his nose to the art world and so should we! Paint for yourself to really be with your senses, to get out of your head or when in a really bad slump, out of your ankle way way deep inside yourself!!

Be kind to yourself, Martin. You can 'think' all you want but doing helps me always to get in a different state of mind, a more 'quiet' place that is more open to what happens in my painting at this moment. When in the moment the negative voices tend to change to a background noise, less intrusive. Do, do, doing... I hope this helps, Albert

I really love your approach here. As an art student that never considered herself an artist or even talented, my biggest tools have been to expand my creativity and keep an open mind. Through my art history classes, I took special interest in conceptual art too, especially because it involved ideas rather than technical skill. I feel that this approach is why people outside of the art world think of artists as crazy/mad or over sensitive, but that is what art sometimes makes of us, since you have to think outside the box. 🤷‍♀️
@ImperfectPaintings
@ImperfectPaintings 3 года назад
Hi Areana, thanks. I sympathize with you and your ideas. I too hesitate to call myself an artist. Being able to think outside the box makes you more resourceful in my opinion and probably also more open minded to ideas and others as well. Art can heal. Albert

It must be said, 'Good art requires some deep thought.' I get annoyed with people who do stuff because Sh... Happens! No it doesn't! You are showing that life and art requires passion, commitment, responsibility, thinking, and action. Good video - stay safe.

@fioreariadne

I agree. People tend to think that art comes from "the heart", when in reality it comes from the brain; it requires planning and a lifetime of experiences so that the artist can envision the work, not as a revelation but as something that makes complete sense in his/her head. Art is about ideas, meanings, and emotions. Loved the video and the responses here, nice channel! ❤️
@ImperfectPaintings
@ImperfectPaintings 3 года назад
Hi Ariana, I even think/feel that art can only be authentic when done in a joined effort of head, heart and hands. You have to understand (head) but also be sensitive (heart) and by making it (hands) it comes to be. Only technique, or only thinking is empty, because the heart is missing. Peace, Albert

Interesting. I don't think money should be a stumbling block for making art, nor having an education in it. If you have an interest, art can be a good outlet to express oneself. The motivation can be as different as the people themselves: pain, joy, politics, sadness, serenity, hunger (culinary), etc. Good video.
@ImperfectPaintings
@ImperfectPaintings 3 года назад
Thanks Culture Fan, I agree. A lot of people put (making art) on a pedestal, or label it as difficult. Making it a fun activity and playing with ideas can lure anyone into art, what in my opinion would be a good thing. Albert

Divergent thinking is fascinating, wonderful. But it doesn’t come easily at all to anyone schooled and brought up for years in literal as opposed to lateral, thinking. Very frustrating. How to practise?
@ImperfectPaintings
@ImperfectPaintings 2 года назад
Interesting question Deni. I suggest embracing playfulness. Play with what-if. How would it help you? What brings linear thinking you? Check out the work of Edward de Bono, specifically his ideas about putting on different hats. It opened up a new world or way of thinking. You can practice it in any conversation with anyone to get more familiar with it. Hope this helps, Albert
