Thanks again Dom! Great video! I agree, this thing is a game changer. I cant wait to get one. As an older person (57 yr), I am especially eager to have creative/studio tools that will go easier on my hands/wrists, as so much strain is put on them (mouse, etc). I can see how this will integrate with the other controllers I already have. It clearly fills in some of my needs, especially, again, tools that will allow me to work longer without the associated pain sometimes incurred in my hands. BOOM!

Thanks Dom for this video. I've owned nOB for quite some time and, shame shame on me, I have not used it for quite a while, as GAS led me to buy buy buy other new and shiny things. You've stimulated me to get back to work with it tomorrow. This requires 1) configuring it a bit to my preferences (and you helped by showing how you did it) and 2) getting used to handling this (especially the switches) with my left hand, while my right one works with the mouse. As to those complaining about the price: I agree and understand AND cannot understand why someone else has not come up with a less expensive option. But, as Dom says, the quality of this product is amazing. You do get what you pay for: heavy, solid chunk of wood, strong switches, smooth and solid wheel, everything touch-sensitive. You cannot expect something a few people in Germany work personally on building to be inexpensive. This is not mass production! So, to conclude: great product, great quality, and here's hoping that someone will build a less expensive (and not too poor quality) alternative.

@marmelade5118
@marmelade5118 2 года назад
@@mrdali67 Yes, a smaller AVR or PIC Microcontroller should be enough. The "expensive" part of this will probably be the encoder knob and the wooden case. But with a product like this, the price is determined by the small amount of produced units. If arduinos were produced in such low quantities, they would probably cost 150+
@mrdali67
@mrdali67 2 года назад
@@marmelade5118 Ya, you can definetly easy make your own controllers with just normal analog pots or faders + an arduino, but normal off the shelf pots is often not the quality pro users would expect from a controller like this. I'm not too impressed with the 2 retro type switches, but impressed how they made them touch sensitive :)
@marmelade5118
@marmelade5118 2 года назад
@@mrdali67 as the switches seem to be full metal, its just a point of the lever being connected to the housing (probably the case because of mechanical stability) and getting a proper soldering connection to the case.

I think the knob will be a digital encoder, not a pot. This is much more reliable and you can get them with very high resolution. Usually a bit more expensive - but since they need only one, they might as well spend a few bucks on it.

Hi Dom, honestly I do not know if in the long run pressing keys to go to a parameter or functions would cut it for me, seems not very immediate but I guess can be useful for very specific plugins or situations, what I am more interested to know is the behavior of the wheel, how the increments are? Are continued like 0.1 increments? As most wheels are a bit sloppy for a lack of better word... that precision would probably make it worth it to me. thank you you are a good guy! 👍

Dom, great video review! I don't recall if you mentioned this or not, but when using the nOb and the nAc software that is mapped to a specific knob or slider, will it automatically switch the nOb to the proper switched mode? Either vertical or horizontal, drag and return or just drag? This way you dont have to keep switching the physical switch everytime you go from a knob to a slider parameter?

I've had one for a few years, its good but a dedicated controller is a lot LOT better. The big limitation is you have to move the mouse cursor over what you want to control. For the most part I find it slower to use than using the mouse. Then there is the high price... The build quality is really nice though, but to me it feels like your being overly positive in the video.

Yes i like it but it's a bit expensive 295euros vat included, if you want a cheap option for AI knob there audient id4 audio interface (of course not as powerful) , also the software is cool but having to click on a profile with the mouse isn't a good workflow i think , the profile should be reachable with the nob itself, and last thing of course it's trivial as there's only one controller you cannot at the same time control two parameters like control cutoff and resonance or drive and outputgain, so to me it's really cool if you already have other controller but complete enough as its own and for this highprice tag

I am sure it could be cheaper if they made it somewhere in China and not handmade. In my opinion this wouldn't be the right choice- the joy of using a device like this comes from the materials and craftmanship. The production of these is not a cheap process. They are made by people in the EU and the software is really spot-on. Plus, the support is impeccable.
