I spoke with Roche about its new continuous glucose monitor, the Accu-Chek SmartGuide CGM which predicts blood sugar levels hours in advance. The device uses AI tech to predict glucose levels and send high and low notifications to the user well in advance of them happening.

I am highly skeptical of any prediction algorithm. If it was so easy, closed loop glucose control would be 100% in range.

I couldn’t disagree more. I am impressed by any prediction algorithm that can improve life for people w T1D. I recognize that it is NOT an easy endeavor and I realize that being 100% in range is a total pipe dream since even a 100% healthy pancreas can’t do that. And I know because I’ve been wearing a CGM for a week just to empathize with my son. Not even my fully functional pancreas can keep me in range 100% of the time (although it does do a damn fine job). I only wish I could transplant it into my son.

Thanks for the update. I'm kinda assuming that most apps 'should' be able to incorporate some form of prediction into their code!

I love to see increased competition and options to Dexcom and Abbott. Consumers win with challenges to those companies. Dexcom G7 has been horrible with the sensor issues, errors, and loss of Bluetooth connection to my Tandem Pump. I would love to give this a try when it's ready for pump integration.

Great video, thanks for covering. Dexcom G7 does some prediction as well in regards to hypos, but this seems to be much more extensive.

How does this compare to other CGMs like the Tandem. Also a report on the Riley Loop, diy non FDA approved would be useful. I have been using this system for a couple of years and it’s fantastic, however, not full proof

Does it get any info related to insulin dosing or carbs ingested? If not, I don't see how it can give any kind of accurate prediction. I am surprised that question is not covered in this video.

How can it do that when it only takes glucose measurements every five minutes? Libre 2 only took measurements every five minutes until it became a fully fledged CGM and now takes measurements every minute. With every minute I'd say the predictions might be more accurate. I wouldn't trust this to predict accurately. It's not even a proper CGM is it? It's a flash monitor.
